monkeying around trophy

I have hit skrunch the monkey 3 dozen times now and i cant get the skill point to unlock or the trophy anyone any ideas

There are 2 monkeys: Brown and a yellow in a Bridge. When you shoot yellow will be a You unlocked a Skill Point!.

Shooting the green one in the bridge won't unlock the trophy, you need to hit him.

With your OmniWrench, do a Comet Strike to the monkey in the bridge.

Oh yeah, forgot about the whip being a melee weapon too. The dual-bladed laser bonus weapon also works, I used that one since it has a longer reach when throwing the weapon.

For people who not know how to activate the dupouble blade laser sword, simply pause the game and enter the following:

Circle, Square, Circle, Square, Up, Down, Left, Left

ive tried all them and i never shot him but still hasnt unlocked

So i know this is old af but this wont unlock for me either. Iv hit him with the wrench a dozen times. A couple even were actually hitting him not throwing it at him. It wont give me the skill point.  Not really sure what to do at this point

I did it for 15 minutes straight just hitting him eveytime he went around in a loop by throwing it at him. It popped randomly. No idea how many times I actually hit him to get it though..

For clarity - this is when Scrunch the Monkey is on the bridge of the ship a couple missions into the game. He will run in circles as you approach him.

 

It's best to cut him off by aiming to the right (assuming you're going clockwise, left if you're going counter-clockwise) and spam square. You can rocket boost which helps as well.
