PSVR selling out in some countries already!

PSVR doing mad numbers already? Jim Ryan certainly thinks so, I grabbed some quotes from his recent interview with CNBC.

Jim Ryan, president and chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, told CNBC on Thursday that the company is expecting strong sales. "We know from the data we have from pre-orders that the interest we have is significant," Ryan said in a TV interview, adding that at launch, sales will be in the "many hundreds of thousands".

PlayStation VR could sell around 2.6 million units this year, according to SuperData research. Sony is a strong position given that it already has an install base of over 40 million PlayStation 4 consoles, so even a small take-up of the VR headset could bring in additional revenues for the gaming unit.

But with demand strong, Sony will need to keep up with strong production and supply, something that has been taken into account. "We know that the replenishment cycle is a good one, production is going exactly as we anticipated. We have made decisions to further increase capacity at the back end of 2016 and into 2017, so there are going to be a lot of PlayStation VRs around the world, whether that's enough to satisfy the demands of the market, we'll see," Ryan told CNBC.

Today’s the launch day for PlayStation VR, which will be awesome for the select few who pre-ordered the second it was announced. But for those walking into stores this week thinking they might get a taste of virtual reality, I have some bad news for you — you can’t.

Unsurprisingly, stock of the PSVR was already sold out before launch day. You can still walk into a retail store and drop $549.95 — or close to $700, if you don’t have two Move controllers and a PlayStation camera lying around — but depending on the store, you won’t see your headset until November or December.

Good news for Sony. I'll post more news in the upcoming days if I get the chance (GOW4 is taking up my time).

Well, is it even surprising?
PSVRs were sold out even on pre-orders and they had to make additional batches.

It's not really surprising it's already almost sold out in some countries.

I don't think it's something worrying, once half of the owners see it's not graphiczzzzz as they expect, they will return it and PSVR will be back in stock before you know.

I expect a raise in PSVR sales when VR porn land. B)

Somehow I doubt Sony would ever allow that...

Besides, if that's all you wanted to do with it, it would be way easier to just use the VR headsets that use peoples phones.

You do realize that is going to be in Japan and it's going to be hentai, right? :awesome:

This is great. The more the VR sells, the more games will be made for it and higher their quality will be.

Can you imagine Surgeon Simulator in VR?

God is real.

Off topic: Bla bla bla, FlareXV is a PS hater, he only posts bad news about playstation, hang that bitch already.

This kinda reminds me of the wii selling out at release. I wonder if Microsoft and Nintendo will attempt to add VR the same way Sony and Microsoft attempted motion controls after seeing the Wii's sales numbers.

Well Microsoft are already in bed with Oculus. I expect we'll see the Oculus Rift be compatible with Scorpio, but I doubt they will develop their own headset. Microsoft have HoloLens too if you remember, and I don't think they would want to create something that potentially competes with that.

As for Nintendo, they've never been ones to follow popular trends. I don't even think they're in the position to do something like this. I also remember Nintendo of America's president making comments last year about how VR "isn't fun" and "it's just tech". They don't seen too keen about it. Maybe it's because they've been burned by VR in the past. Virtual Boy anyone? :P

I'd never heard of HoloLens. It seems like something they could use with the XBox 1 while using Kinect to track the motion for games. Since they're talking about the xbox platform including pc, it seems like a possibility.

HoloLens is stand alone meaning that XB1 will not be required to use it. Scorpio may get Rift and Vive support but at the moment, it's anyone's guess.

It's definitely a possibility. The thing with HoloLens though is that it's augmented reality not virtual reality. It's less suited towards games because while VR can fully immerse you in a games world, AR is all interacting with the real world. Microsoft did show it off at their 2015 press conference though, so it's clear games will at least have some part in its future. I'll link the HoloLens demo in case you want to see it. Pretty cool tech.

Ninty gave up on VR iirc and MS is busy with HoloLens.
