In Honor of Halloween... best horror games on PS4?

In honor of today, let's discuss everyone's favorite horror games on the PS4 - current and upcoming.

I recently saw Emily Wants to Play has come out for the PS4. Definitely looking to get that one. Also been hearing good things about Until Dawn, but it might not be that great of 'horror.'

What are your thoughts? Anything you are looking forward to?

I'd go with Until Dawn. If you like campy "teens in the woods" type of horror movies, it's great.

Other than that, I might boot up the ole P.T. demo for my annual "let's see how many times I can walk around this single looping corridor before I poop my pants" competition with myself.

If you want something a bit more energetic, try this year's DOOM. Not strictly a horror game, but you get to fight demons so you could get away with playing it tonight. It's insanely good.

I played through Weeping Doll for PSVR today. Short, but I liked it. Didn't know anything before I played it, which made it surprisingly fun.

The best game for Halloween on PS4 is Costume Quest 2, in my opinion. Played through it from start to platinum last Halloween. Absolute blast. :-)

P.T. is the definition of a horror game. I played it twice with different people and it's disturbing the first time, but after you get caught once, then it's horrifying. From that point forward, you are constantly tense about where "she" will get you. You panic to try to solve the puzzle before you are grabbed. I feel bad for horror fans who never got a chance to play it.

Soma is pretty good, and so is Alien: Isolation. When I think "horror games", I think games that make you feel like you're never safe, and that you don't have much (or any) means of defence or escape if you get spotted. Those kinds of games have always given me that classic feeling of uneasiness I want to feel when playing a horror, rather than games with just constant jump scares that you get desensitised to after the first one, like Until Dawn.

Outlast was alright, but it became more annoying than terrifying pretty early on. The monster patterns were too predictable, and I can't say I ever really felt that "fear" that I was completely helpless.

I played the first Amnesia game several years ago on my PC as well, one of the scariest horror games I've ever played, so I'll add that to the list since the collection is releasing on PS4 later this month.

Until Dawn isn't getting much love in this topic, but I think it's a great horror game. Sure, it isn't scary if you're horror fan, but I see it as an ode to slasher (and another genre) horror from the 80s. Obnoxious kids which at first you'd like all to just go ahead and get murdered, but after a small while you do start feeling a little attached to them. Deliberately cheesy dialog and plot, I think it's really wel done.

It does rely on hump (gonna leave this in because autocorrect made me laugh) scares too much. I'm guessing to drawn in the modern horror crowd who grew up with Paranormal Activity and Insidious and that kinda stuff.

Still, I can really recommend it if you're a horror fan. It's fun, engaging, atmosphere is nice, silly. I had a blast playing it.

(Being for PS4 makes this easy for me.)

Favorite Horror game (PS4) is Dying Light (especially at night, in-game).

(As usual, theres some misconceptions with the term horror here.) Until Dawn is my second favorite and more importantly is factually a horror game with legitimate terror and scary elements that is built with UD as oppose to awkwardly existing in game or trying to exist in the game where it seems tacked or forced on. If youre playing in raw daylight and not using headphones to, your opinion is hardly valid, as youre not getting the full experience (which is different from boosted experience), especially with head.ps. Want to talk about a horror game that isnt actually scary, then that would be The Last of Us (but it is terrifying, which is something every horror game should be as that is the major element that sets the horror theme), another horror game but also weaker surivival-horror game in the horror field. While Until Dawn has a weird concept that makes it seem like a survival horror, its not that standard one we're use to seeing, like in Soma, Alien Isolation, and Outlast. UD is a interactive (survival?) story horror game. As some have said above, its just in a different genre but its factually scary and horror due to existent game aspects and mechanics like jump scares (some of which that are inargubly unpredictable), creepy and terrifying atmospheres, suspensful (lack of better term) music, never feel safe feeling.. even for this genre, actual horrific events in game, etc.

Looking forward to? Im still looking into it, theres so many other games to keep up with that I forget the upcoming horror line up frequently.

Honorable mention- Alien Isolation.
