DNA trophy question

For those that know, would spending DNA still be fine? Or, does one have to have all 50,000 DNA on you at once? Otherwise, farming the DNA is going to be annoying.

The game doesn't keep track of the total amount of DNA collected but the trophy does, so it's fine to purchase the upgrades and the trophy will pop naturally while finishing the side missions and collecting the probes.

Can confirm that you can spend DNA. As long as you don't use the Mmm... Brains! cheat then you're fine. It'll pop up once you get 50,000 DNA.

I don't know about popping naturally. I got all of the probes and side missions done and by my estimate I need another 20,000ish DNA

I see on playstationtrophies.org that this is culmulative across different playthroughs, can anyone confirm this? I'd prefer to just replay the game than spam the same mission over and over, even if it technically takes less time.

 

Edit: did it myself and it popped not too long after getting all the probes in a second playthrough and running some of the side missions. For anyone else who doesn't want to just kill cows for an hour a partial second playthrough isn't a bad option.
