AffectatiousDonk
I understand it will be possible to upgrade the Pro's hard drive. I currently have to make a decision as one of my PS4's has a 4TB HD (externally) connected via a databank. 1. Would this setup also work on the Pro 2. Would I have to delete everything on the HD to reformat to work with the Pro (I'm trying to avoid this as a lot of my games are digital) Any help much appreciated
Infected Elite
i would use external HDDs and pop the encasement, then it basically is an internal drive (provided you know how to do this safely without damaging the drive), then swap it into the ps4 or ps4 pro. no need for external attachments or ugh, nyko databank garbage. my advice, get an external 4TB drive, pop it open, make it an internal, and put it into your ps4/ps4p
StrickenBiged
You can get 4TB drives small enough now? As in, in line with the 2.5mm size restriction to fit inside the HDD chassis? Can anyone recommend one? To answer OP's question 2: I think inserting a HDD into a PS4 will cause the PS4 to reformat it, even if it has just come from a different PS4. I would recommend you back up the PS4 data before you take the HDD out and put it into the Pro, if that is your intention (it's slightly unclear). Hopefully there will be some helpful coverage of how to most easily upgrade to the Pro now that the media seem to have their hands on the new system. aric201812
The recommended way to copy across if you still have a PS4 is linking to the Pro via an Ethernet cable. This assumes that the HDD sizes will be the same of course which may not work in your case as you presumably want to avoid buying another large drive. If that is the case then I think that unfortunately a reformat and redownload is the only option.

crimsonidol38
You can get 4TB drives small enough now? As in, in line with the 2.5mm size restriction to fit inside the HDD chassis? Can anyone recommend one? There are 4TB drives that have the 2.5" format but their actual height is 15mm and not the required 7mm or 9mm so they won't fit into the PS4 as far as I'm aware. But some people use some longer SATA connectors and attach a drive that's outside the PS4, leaving the PS4 open so the cable can stick out. EDIT: You can see the heights on price comparison sites like Skinflint: http://skinflint.co.uk/?cat=hde7s&xf=3772_2.5%7E958_4000#xf_top If you deselect the capacity you can see which drives have the required heights for the PS4. EDIT 2: According to some sites the PS4 supports HDDs with 9.5mm height. http://www.giantbomb.com/playstation-4/3045-146/forums/psa-ps4-supports-only-2-5-hard-drives-max-height-9-1460226/ Edited November 7, 2016 by Crimson Idol
DaivRules
yes. Would you happen to have a link to a 4TB 2.5 inch 9.5 mm high drive? Only ones I can find are 15mm high and that makes them too large to fit in the PS4.
AffectatiousDonk
So it sounds like directly swapping the 4TB HD from my PS4 into a Pro would cause it to format, which I am trying to avoid as most of the content is digital games that would take a long time to re download. In regards to using an Ethernet cable and transferring data between the PS4 / Pro how exactly does that work. Can I choose the content to transfer or does it just send everything on the HD. Also my bad on the 6tb, the only ones are a tad too big on the mm size. stupid sony being so picky.
antithesis
The databank won't work on the Pro, it's larger and the shell is different. You're stuck with a 2TB 3.5" HDD, or even better, an SSD to take advantage of the performance boost from SATA3. AffectatiousDonk
Yeah realised that soon as I picked it up. Have been going back and forth all week about trading oldest PS4 in against the pro but with it all setup with a 4TB and the fact it's running fine eventually decided against. The $180 or so trade in just didn't seem worth it to go through all the hassle of moving games over. Will only be using Pro for supported games and VR ( interesting to see if the extra power improves performance. Will have to do something though between 3 PS4, couple of PS3 and VR it looks like a bomb zone with cords everywhere
