A Casual Attack on Your Backlog
(Inspired by XX_FTW's Bye Bye Backlog: Instant Game Collection event)

Your backlog is too big for you to possibly 100% all the games on it or full with games you just can't be bothered with getting 100%? (grindy multiplayer trophies, anyone?) You practically can hear your backlog growing while you try to get that platinum you don't really want or need but somehow feel compelled to get? You seem to lack the motivation to battle your backlog? Well, you've come to the right place! The goal of this event is to provide a platform for self-motivation in attacking your backlog. Why a casual attack, you ask? Because we will commit to getting those games off of our backlogs by completing them, but not necessarily aim for 100% or getting the platinum trophy. (You still can though, if you want!)

 

This event is planned as a continuous event with a new season every 3 months. Participants will commit to a list of games before each season (or at time of entering, when entering during an ongoing season) and state their goals for each game (Story completion, Platinum, 100%,...) and then report on their progress and maybe share some impressions from their playthroughs and I will keep an updated list of participants and their games in this post.

 

Rules

• A new season will start every 3 months, starting from January 1st, 2017. So start dates are January 1st, April 1st, July 1st, October 1st.
• For each season, participants will submit a list of 3 to 6 games and state their goal for each game. (for example Story completion, Platinum, 100%)
• Lists should be submitted before the start of a new season. Although I won't exclude anybody who misses the deadline! Also, if you want to join mid-season, you can.
• Games can be added to a submitted list, but no games can be removed during a season (only before it started!)
• If a game has not been completed by the end of a season, it can be on the list for the next season, but it doesn't have to.
• All games that you consider are in your backlog are fair! No matter your progress or trophy percentage. We want to get those games off of our backlog, and if you are at 80% at a game, it too has to go! Games also are not required to already be registered in your profile. That game sitting on your shelf, still untouched, or bought digitally and never downloaded? Put it on your list!
• What is considered backlog? I won't make any hard rule there, but I would suggest you only take games you have had in your possession for a specific time and also haven't played for a specific time. (for example 6 months in your possession, not played for 3 months)
• Remakes/Remasters can be used as substitutes. You own a game on PS3 but have never completed it, and bought it recently on PS4 or want to buy it there? You don't have to wait for 6 months, but consider it on your backlog right away!
• Have fun and go shrink that Backlog!

That's not a problem at all, you can put games on your list that you never played before!

I'm not entirely sure i get what you mean... For the pre-season, the original limit was 3 games, because it runs only until the end of december, but if you think you can finish those 4 games, that's fine! If you finish them and there's still time left, i would say it's also ok to add more games.  And for season 1 (which starts january 1st), you can and should submit your list before that date, so anytime between now and january 1st. If you can't make it before january 1st, it's also ok to submit it afterwards.

If that hasn't answered you question, feel free to be a bit more specific

Alright, this seems like a good idea. I won't be doing the pre-season, but I'll join up for season 1 with the following games:

So much variety, right?! Anyhow, I've had these games laying around for a pretty long time now, and they've never even come close to my PS3 yet...

This seems like a good opportunity to change that

I like the idea of a 'casual' completion challenge, I'm very prone to playing a new game for just one session then never getting round to going back to it, leaving me with dozens of games that this website ranks as 'E', so I'm going with my oldest rank E games on each platform, if there is a story I want to complete it other than that I'm more than happy getting to rank A rather than slogging to an S rank.

Been waiting for an event like this for a long time... I just want to play through the stories, I can't bring myself to 100% a lot these days, and I have many games with at least one trophy earned so they get disqualified for other backlog events I've joined.

 

Pre-season: I want to finish the stories in Watch_Dogs 2 and The Deadly Tower Of Monsters, which are respectively at 30% and 0% now. I might add more but those are the two I will be gunning for this month, at least. I might add the Ezio trilogy, depending on how soon I get it.

 

I will try to figure out a list of games for the first season before January, but this will probably in part depend on the next two PS+ updates. I would want to add Fractured Butthole but I don't know if it will be released in time (Horizon Zero Dawn seems ready for season 2, but also with that one I can't rule out further delays). I will mostly play games I already have at least one trophy in though because the unstarted ones will be ammo for the next Hemiak KYC event.

 

Here is a proto-list for season one, with current completion percentages. I might change some, if not all of the titles though. All of the goals are story completion, with the exception of LEGO Marvel's Avengers which has a 100% goal. All of these games are on PS4, by the way.

Bloodborne (3%), Bound (3%), LEGO Marvel's Avengers (5%), Shadow Of The Beast (1%)

 

 

Question: Are you going to ask people to write reviews of the games in this thread (like in the Hemiak KYC events) or is it more of a short stat updates kind of thing?

 

Edit: just read through the OP a bit more and you don't count new games as being part of the backlog, so forget my comments on Watch_Dogs 2, Fractured Butthole and Horizon Zero Dawn then. Personally every game I own but have not played through yet is on my backlog, so I didn't think about adding new games. I guess The Deadly Tower Of Monsters is a no-no then as well, seeing as I obtained it this month on PS+?

Disgaea 5 and Hitman took way less time than expected.. I'm going to add Dark Cloud to the original list because I think it's doable.
