jackmadrox
So it happened once in 1983... And here's one of the many videos on YouTube speculating that it's happening again... Thoughts?

Elvick_
i really hope we don't have another crash, if we do then Nintendo will have to resurrect the industry again They can't, and wouldn't. The only reason they "did" in the first place was because they were the first ones to do the obvious. Make a console worth buying, with games worth playing, and that wasn't a throwaway system to make a quick buck for them. It was an actual investment for them, that would have longevity. And it did. Nintendo was not some unique flower, another company would have come in and done just that if not Nintendo.

Then we wouldn't have Mario, Link, Samus, Donkey Kong, Ness, Wario, Kirby and about a thousand other Nintendo characters. We wouldn't have Sonic the Hedgehog either because he was the result of Mario being insanely popular. We may not of had Crash Bandicoot, because Sony needed a mascot to compete with Mario and Sonic. Platforming may of well been a different cup of tea without Nintendo. Edited December 2, 2016 by Spaz

AJ_Radio
Then by your logic you're basically putting this in the same vein as saying if said greatest athlete didn't exist, somebody would of come in and gotten the same achievements as them. But to each their own, because it's pointless arguing with someone like you.
EmberzGhostSquad
Sequels are mostly made because their banking off title recognition, it's alot easier to sell an IP that already exists then invest in one that's new because success is uncertain and businesses don't like that. Pre-rendered CG trailers are nothing new and I just see them as something that marketers use to help entice people into getting excited for a title which is what trailers and teasers should do. Trailers that use actual gameplay and cinematics that are in the game itself I think are infinitely better because you actually get to see what you'd be playing. If the company just has a CG trailer, I'd advise people to just wait until they see the gameplay of a game to get invested. I do think we're losing a little creativity in the game industry and they should not rely on post patch work to ensure their games work especially on release. I understand that a company can't find all the bugs in a game but I think they should atleast test and stamp out most of them. All in all though I don't think a crash is coming. Too many people still pay attention to video games and we're still seeing many titles be made along with Nintendo coming out with their Switch system to provide another dose of competition to the mix. jackmadrox
All in all though I don't think a crash is coming. Too many people still pay attention to video games and we're still seeing many titles be made along with Nintendo coming out with their Switch system to provide another dose of competition to the mix. Yeah but, the newer titles coming out now aren't worth a damn, in my own personal opinion of course. I seriously am struggling to keep my interest in PS4, because of the lack of games. Yeah, I mean, Red Dead Redemption 2 is coming, Dead Rising 4, etcetera, but those releases are way off from now. What the fuck am I supposed to play in the mean time that is actually worth getting? Slipknot_rooney
So many good games on PS4 that are worth playing if you actually look. We've had PS4 for what, 3 years now? A lack of games is a silly excuse really.

VeldinX
It's also worth mentioning that the crash of 83 really only affected North America. The European and Asian markets weren't hit much since Atari wasn't the console of choice.
Parker
Such as? It is all personal preference of course, but to name a few that I think are more than worth a play; Uncharted 4: A Thief's End Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection Dirt Rally Project Cars Assetto Corsa Driveclub The Witcher III: Wild Hunt Titanfall 2 Mad Max Doom Wolfenstein: The New Order Fallout 4 Any PS4 CoD title Transformers: Devastation Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Destiny Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 1& 2 Tembo the Badass Elephant Grand Theft Auto V Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor Infamous Second Son Trials Fusion Rayman Legends Resogun In my personal opinion the library on PS4 is fantastic and I never struggle to find something to play. Z1MZUM
We heard about the E.T landfill etc etc here in Australia though the arcades still dominated and many had computers. Atari died off pretty quick and the 5200 didn't even exist here. The crash meant affordable gaming to Australians as the cost of gaming was a luxury to many. HaSoOoN-MHD
Zzzz A video like this or some derivative there of be it a bunch of low effort articles or forum threads etc pop up every year or so from disgruntled gamers who don't like where the industry is going. No; it's not going to happen.
Oobedoob S Benubi
The market is so different from what it was back then... there was no internet so people could swap experiences, there was no digital gaming, there were fewer developers, fewer buyers... I don't think the industry has the ability to collapse any more. If anything collapses, it's one of the Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft trio and the other two will just fill in the gap. Yeah but, the newer titles coming out now aren't worth a damn, in my own personal opinion of course. I seriously am struggling to keep my interest in PS4, because of the lack of games. I think the PS4 library is great as well. I agree with most games Parker mentioned and I'm adding: Alien Isolation Watch_Dogs 2 Rise Of The Tomb Raider Tomb Raider Ratchet & Clank Tropico 5 Bloodborne The Crew Batman Arkham Knight Just Cause 3 Assassin's Creed Black Flag - Unity - Syndicate The Last Of Us Remastered And that's just disc games, because Parker's list was mostly disc as well. Digital: Strider Velocity 2X Road Not Taken Octodad Thomas Was Alone Hohokum Teslagrad Unmechanical Extended CounterSpy Q.U.B.E. Director's Cut Assassin's Creed Chronicles Super Star Wars Day Of The Tentacle Remastered The Vanishing Of Ethan Carter Unravel Nova-111 The Swapper Journey Everybody's Gone To The Rapture The Deadly Tower Of Monsters There's more than enough cool titles out there regardless of what games you prefer, anybody saying there's nothing to play is not looking hard enough.
