The Fallout games take place in an alternate universe where America never made it that far into the future. But that hasn't stopped CNN from using footage from Fallout 4 as B-roll footage [not main footage, only just a second or two of screen time] CNN has since updated their website to no longer include the video this error comes from, but you can see in the images below just exactly what was aired on TV. The very bottom picture is an actual screenshot from Fallout 4, and you can see perfectly that the CNN footage used is in fact from Fallout 4. The news depends a lot on archive footage, I know at least two news sites I frequent that very obviously have a batch of stock pictures and use it for everything.
