Anyone tried Ring Fit Adventure yet and how is it? I was surprised it has gotten pretty good reviews.

It seems they don't sell the game digitally and the ring accessory separately (at least not yet) so we're a bit miffed. Wouldn't feel like swapping cartridges for games we play between other games on a daily basis.

Now that I check again, I'm on Chapter 6 out of 7 total. So I guess I'm closer to the end than I thought.

If you've only played the first Trails in the Sky, I definitely recommend playing 2 and 3. They're great. TitS 2 is a huge game too, I think it's twice as big as the first one. 2 is more about combat than exploration, but it still has a very important story to tell.

I see you got the Platinums in both Cold Steel 1 and 2. I am specifically NOT going for Platinums or using guides in this series. Sure, I'll miss out on some side content but that's okay. I gave up on trophies for JRPGs a long time ago.

A couple of years ago I decided instead of playing so many different games, I was going to focus on the games I enjoy most and try and see and do everything in them. As it happens, a lot of the games I enjoy most are 100+ hour RPG's.

I too don't like to use guides for a first playthrough, but if I really enjoy the game I don't mind going through again to experience what I missed.  If I remember correctly, both Cold Steels took a 2nd playthrough.

Nothing wrong with that. I can't think of any games that didn't have at least some small annoyances, and I think a second playthrough would drive me crazy. So I don't do that myself.

At least the PS4 version of Cold Steel has some nice Quality of Life improvements, like Turbo Mode. I haven't figured out how to skip through dialog though, which I would definitely need to have for a second playthrough (unless it was several years later).

I get where you are coming from. It takes a special game to warrant a replay from me, but often I enjoy that replay more than nearly all new experiences.

I have been thinking of a 5th playthrough of Persona 4...and still haven't skipped a line of dialogue.  Yeah, I have issues.

I definitely do that with TV. My "comfort shows" are more enjoyable to me than most new "edgy" shows.

I used to reply my favorite games a lot (especially Half Life 2), and a few of them were (Western) RPGs like Baldur's Gate 2. But I've been blessed/cursed with enjoying a wide set of genres so I try to play a lot of games but tend to not go much past story completion anymore.

In case anyone cares... or wants to know...

Sword/Shield has pretty much been leaked. As well as the entire dex.

Just so you know...

1f605.png

Yeah, here's a link to all the Pokemon.

SEMI-SPOILER

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.slashgear.com/pokemon-sword-and-shield-full-pokedex-leak-will-definitely-break-some-hearts-04598387/amp/

My saddest exclusions were pretty much all of the previous starter Pokemon, Salamence, Politoed, Metagross, Floatzel, Crobat, Staraptor, and Talonflame. Some big fan favorites left out there... I thought they'd for sure include all of gen 1 at least due to Pokemon Let's go, but quite the opposite really. However, REALLY surprised Mew was included. Totally threw me off!

I'll be interested to see the backlash though from hardcore fans. I'm sure 400 won't make them happy at all. I personally, was hoping for 500, but I'm okay with 400 (since that was as big as the Dex was for Sun/Moon before transferring).

I still think it'll be an amazing game, but damn does it suck to see some of my faves left out. I already have my copy predownloaded. I'm not going to try and reverse it as I'm still willing to give it a chance.

Noooo! They left Eelektross out! :( At least there's Whimsicott and Milotic.

Mew might be included for people who bought the Pokéball accessory for Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee. I figure you can either transfer Mew from Let's Go or redeem it from the accessory to Sword/Shield.

Haven't pre-ordered the games anywhere yet but we're probably going to get both versions. Traditionally we've played Pokémon games together with my husband (he's the one who said "pfft.. Pokémon is a kiddie game" then after seeing me play Pokémon White for a few hours he went to buy his own 3DS and Pokémon Black the next day ). He's getting the Pokémon limited edition Switch Lite so we'll both have our own consoles.

For the sake of not reading through too much spoiler-y leak stuff...

I only really know Gen 1 pokemon since those were the only games I played, and only part of the anime I watched... if the possibility of Gen 1 pokemon were selling point for me, it sounds like Pokemon Sword wouldn't appeal to me much?  Was debating pre-ordering but I may wait on it a bit instead.  Death Stranding and Shenmue III should keep me busy this month anyways.

Whimsicott is actually one of my favorites. I also love having Milotic on my team as well. However, I think I am mostly going to try new galarian Pokemons anyways (at least initially) so not having my previous favorite mons will be okay.

I know a lot of people are disappointed, but I see it as a way for a fresh start with everyone on even playing ground.

Roughly 35% of gen 1 will be in it (about 55 give or take a few). I don't know if that translates to "not appealing" for you or not.

I think if you like the idea of raising Pokemon, battling with friends, trading, and turn-based combat, you should get it regardless.

EDIT: The semi spoiler is just the list of Pokemon, I know some people avoid this like the plague, but it doesn't really ruin the story or anything like that.

I do like the idea, though newer generations of Pokemon have never really clicked with me.  Maybe it's just something I'd need to play and get used to like I did with gen 1 so many years ago... but something I'll probably do a few months down the road if/when I can get it like $5 cheaper (because Nintendo games never really go down in price lol).

Thanks for the info!  Maybe I'll check out which 55 or so gen 1 Pokemon are in it before I decide too hastily.

I can see that. I definitely connected better with gen 1 and 2 Pokemon than I did with gen 7.

I want to say it's a generational thing where the newer designs are meant to appeal to the newer generations and since the designs are vastly different than the older ones, they don't really appeal as much to us.

And now for a brief non-Pokemon intermission (I've never been into Pokemon, so I have no opinions and nothing to add to the current discussion):

Just wanted to put my opinion out here for everyone's consideration that Ori and the Blind Forest is a fantastic game. Well worth $20. Visuals, gameplay and music are all top-notch. The gameplay feels a lot like Rayman Legends at times, and the exploration is like a classic 2D Metroid game. I'm about a third of the way through the game and having a wonderful time with it. If you have an Xbox account, you can also link it to the Switch version of this game and earn Xbox achievements while you play, which is both weird and kind of cool (This is the only game for which I have any Xbox achievements).

So if you've got $20 to spend and are looking for a new Switch game, I give Ori the highest of recommendations.

Well met! I've tried to play 4 or 5 Pokemon games. The longest I've ever stuck with one is a few hours. I finally decided it just wasn't for me.

I think GameFreak are making some good decisions with Sword and Shield. I love that you will no longer have to hunt or breed for a specific nature, you can just use a mint to change the nature to whatever you want. I also like that you can change your party out pretty much wherever you want, it should make training multiple Pokemon much more enjoyable.

I honestly haven't really enjoyed a Pokemon game since probably Platinum, but I really like what I'm seeing with Sword and Shield. I was going to get the game anyway because my son really wants it, but I think I might enjoy the game as well. It is a shame there aren't more Gen 1 and 2 Pokemon because those are my favorite generations, but I'll get over it.

Thanks for the recommendation! Not going to get it on Switch though as it's available on Xbox Game Pass for PC. I've been eyeing the game there but haven't installed it yet.

Cool stuff, @Parker, so glad you can change natures. I remember the most frustrating experience I've ever had with this was when I finally caught a Ralts in Emerald after 2 hours of searching and its nature was "Adamant."

Can't reiterate enough how happy I am about this change. Takes the grind out of catching a bunch of the same pokemons. I'll probably catch 2 of everything for trading purposes early on, but I don't want 24 of them if I can save myself the time!

I got you as a friend so apologies in advance if you randomly see me asking for a trade or battle. xD

I ended up pre-ordering Sword on Amazon.  Looking at that leak, I'd like more gen 1 Pokemon but there really aren't a ton that I care about (and those I do seem to be mostly included).  It'll be neat to see a bunch of new (to me) Pokemon too and maybe pick out some new favorites. ?

There's time for me to change my mind but I probably won't... these Nintendo games rarely go on much of a sale anyways so I'd like to have the game on hand for when the mood strikes to start playing.  Though Death Stranding and Shenmue III will probably be the focus for November.

So I'm the owner of a yellow Switch Lite now and I really love it. Didn't really need another console for the TV, so I'm happy about the handheld-only version. I was already looking forward to the new Pokémon games, especially Shield since I fell in love with the Galarian Ponyta at first sight. Just can't get enough of this fluffybutt <3

There are still other games I have missed on the Switch so far, but I'm also waiting for the port of Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE now.

I have it and I really like it. I think it's best for people who like RPGs and want to get into exercising but are struggling to actually do it. The game is also pure cardio so for anyone who wants to build muscle, this isn't going to do that. You'd need to go to a gym and use their weights or buy your own weights for that.

Thanks for the info! Might have to get Ring Fit Adventure at some point. Could be just the thing I need for days when it's cold and wet/snowy and I just want to stay indoors.

Finished Fire Emblem: Three Houses last night, just in time for the new Pokémon games. I finished the Black Eagles church route as Warrior who one-shotted almost everything with an axe and dealt massive crits most of the time - Warrior still the best class. In the end I married Sylvain, thanks to Ferdinando's ugly hippie hair after time skip.

I didn't really care for the school activities in FE, actually I would have preferred them gone. They claimed you aren't forced to do the school stuff, yet it seems they locked weapons behind the feature's professor level.

At first the graphics looked like a downgrade from the 3DS games (antialiasing issues on models when playing on TV, pixelated textures, muddy looking boring environments in battles) but I guess I got used to it and managed to get one playthrough done.

I didn't appreciate how the game tried to force feed a certain type of character on me by giving a "godly" sword to use and even automatically changing my character's class to something specific while I was trying to level up my axe skills. Felt like it took a lot of effort to get even an advanced class for my own chara and then the game was already over. Also, no War Master class for females? Really?

I've been a big fan of the 3DS Fire Emblems and while this new game on Switch wasn't bad, it wasn't that good either. If I wanted to play a "Persona game" I'd be playing Persona. At least the music and character designs were great as usual. Especially Bernadetta was awesome with Japanese audio when she critted enemies to death and shrieked in terror, haha.

Started Pokemon early this morning and I understand the criticism, and I agree that it could be much better and the potential for Pokemon to take the next step was there. No voice acting, unaccessible buildings, bland battle environments at times, Pokemon/players/objects popping out of nowhere, but even though it's all 100% true, this is Pokemon. You play to catch, battle, and trade  and wow, everything is so accessible and available early on, that I'm constantly running around catching mons, raising them, and CONSTANTLY switching out my mons. It's such an addictive cycle in this game, that I'm starting to forget to keep 1 or 2 mons in my party for my final team. I just can't decide who I want. The game is still fun and it's still Pokemon so just remember that before deciding to purchase the game.

Anyways, I just arrived at Milo's gym (1st gym) and I already have 49 different Pokemon and 1 and a half boxes full of Pokemon too so I'm not even thinking about the lack of a national Dex right now.

Unfortunately, I'm having issues finding anyone online, but I hope that's just because it released 14 hours ago! 1f605.png

Anyways, I'll be posting updates as I go and make it as spoiler-free as possible so hopefully, I don't annoy you guys too much!

Started playing Pokémon Shield last night and haven't advanced far yet but so far I like what I see! The feel of the game is very nice, pretty and detailed environments and some of the new character and Pokémon designs are excellent. I especially like Wooloo and Nickit.
I picked Scorbunny as my starter, thinking I'll probably find many lovely grass and water type Pokémon for my team. We also used some time to trade Grookey for both of us from other save files. Grookey is irresistibly cute.

I'm pretty sure the missing Pokémon from earlier gens won't be an issue and it's a good opportunity to get to know the new creatures when I won't fill my team with old favorites.

We don't have the online subscription yet so we can't participate in the online activities. Maybe if the raid type online cooperative battle events seem interesting enough we'll give the sub a try.

Husbando got the Switch Lite Zacian & Zamazenta Edition to play Pokémon Sword. It's a cool looking console and the azure blue / raspberry pink buttons and sticks really pop on the light "SNES gray" base color.

@Eyjabria, I just got my second badge. Really liking it so far. I'll definitely breed you a Grookey once I find a Ditto.

So far, I've used the following Pokemon in gym battles:

Gym 1:

Noctowl (lvl 20) -destroyed his entire team with air slash

Gym 2:

Manetric (lvl 29) - destroyed his entire team with shock wave

Starting to see a pattern. ? Hopefully trainers get a little tougher. Though, the trainer's AI APPEARS to be waaay smarter than previous entries. For example, I pulled out a Manetric with "lightning rod" to eat an electric attack which I was expecting to be used against my flying type (which worked successfully) and the AI stopped using electric attacks against Manetric altogether. I don't think that's a coincidence, but I will test this further once I get to the electric gym to see if that was a fluke or if the AI is really smarter.

BTW, I love this lightning rod ability though, so I think Manetric will have a spot on the final team against the champ and will use it in raids. For now, it's time to go find some water mons for my next badge and revisit the wild area for raids and exp to quickly level them up.
