Meepy-
Make sure you play it safe and slow, don't rush things.ALWAYS ki pulse as well, there should never be a time where you aren't doing it. Onryoki's attacks are very slow and predictable. After he slams his first chain ball down, you can always get a few hits in him and then wait to see what he does next, which will either be a spin attack or another slam with the ball which will leave him open even more. Once you break the chains, it should be smooth sailing from there. If you go close and let him try and punch you, you can dodge if you time it right and go behind him for a few more attacks. If he moves towards one of the balls to throw at you, wait and let him do it instead of trying to hit him in the process. If he does his belly flop attack which he does fairly often if aren't that far from him, you'll be able to get lots of damage into him before he gets up. Not sure how much amrita he drops, but it isn't much or anything worth noting.

Infected Elite
I beat him earlier. I just leveled up a bit. The second boss Kurasagma or whatever was a cakewalk in comparison though.
Ikenda
Maybe this will help. Level 7 with Dual katanas and no armor. I took of the Armor and dodging became a breeze. Later I beat him with no damage but I was level 30. Edited February 9, 2017 by Ikenda Correction
exsentry
Beat him (or it) last night. I found it safer to always face him versus trying to get behind him, When you are facing him, he really only does three move which are pretty easy to telegraph...when you are behind him, he does a spin move that's harder to dodge. His second face seems easier, but the window to hit him is shorter.
Dangisuckatgamin
I leveled up to 18 to beat him, i'm horrible at these games though but the coop during the beta was fun so I threw $60 at it and now I sort of regret it lol
jollybrah
Just gotta take things slow, learn his attacks and learn when its safe to attack, beat him second try didn't find him to bad but the second boss kicked my ass. Good luck mate, stick at it and you will eventually get it.
Auto-Tomato
I've already got the prestige for defeating him without taking a hit, on twilight too, so trust me when I say go in as light as possible, I keep my agility under 30%, blue, movement speed and ki pulsing is what Nioh is really all about, there's not much you want to be guarding against as it'll tear through your ki, it's a last resort use...mostly. Keep on the move and simply attack the openings, don't get greedy with hits and the joy of combat in Nioh, unlike Souls, is that finally we can dodge cancel just about any attack or action, effectively, short attack bursts then dodge, never run down ki completely (I'm sure most know this). He is slow so other than him spinning his iron balls or throwing them, dodge in towards and through him, he'll fall in no time. He's weak to WATER, as is Muneshige surprisingly (thought it was earth), almost beat him without taking a hit too, good prestige for that as well, took one crossbow bolt/ triple arrow (?), was furious! lol Edited February 10, 2017 by RedMustang72

I got Stamina cranked up so I run a full heavy set for the best defense and reduction but able to move at a 'B' category of around low 60% Once I pump up some damage with my melee weapons (sword and chain sickle). Able to dodge most things, have Ki to block and still move or attack and I do decent damage. My survivability went up by from dying 15-20 times a mission to less then once pre-bosses and only 2-3 times on bosses. I also hardly ever waste time using Ki pulse.
