Save your boost for the straights - don't be tempted to use it right away. I made the mistake of using small amounts of boost when earned, but saving it does help. Boost to get up to speed, don't waste it if you're already going fast. Don't drift if you don't need to, just tap the brake instead. It is possible, I struggled with this one as well.
