MosesRockefeller
EDIT for 2018!: I want to update these lists in the near future (they are horribly out of date), but in the meantime, I have started a new backlog strategy for 2018. It's farther down the page, but here is a link to the start of the 2018 stuff: https://forum.psnprofiles.com/topic/50055-mosesrockefellers-backlog/?do=findComment&comment=1483794 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Original Post: I've talked about this for a bit with @BillyHorrible and it's finally time. Here is my crazy backlog. I'm not going to include games that I already played on another platform, and games I have on multiple platforms will only count once. Unfortunately I didn't flag the PS2 Classics I have for PS3, so those will show up under PS3. Besides those handful of games, a few pre-trophies PS3 games, and the ones marked PSP or PS1 Classic, they should all have trophies. PlayStation games I have not yet started (663 games): Spoiler 10 Second Ninja X PS4/Vita A King's Tale: Final Fantasy XV PS4 Aaru's Awakening PS4 Abyss Odyssey: Extended Dream Edition PS4 Abzu PS4 ACE COMBAT ASSAULT HORIZON PS3 ACE COMBAT INFINITY PS3 Actual Sunlight Vita Adr1ft PS4 Adventure Time: Finn and Jake Investigations PS4 Adventures of Mana Vita Adventures of Pip PS4 Aegis of Earth: Protonovus Assault Vita AeternoBlade Vita AirMech Arena PS4 Alice: Madness Returns PS3 Alien Breed PS3/Vita Alien Isolation PS4 Alien Rage PS3 Alienation PS4 Alone With You PS4/Vita Amnesia: Memories Vita Among the Sleep PS4 Amplitude PS4 Anna - Extended Edition PS3 Another World - 20th Anniversary Edition PS4/Vita Ape Escape 2 PS4 Apotheon PS4 Ar nosurge Plus: Ode to an Unborn Star Vita Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirit PS4 ARCADE GAME SERIES: DIG DUG PS4 ARCADE GAME SERIES: GALAGA PS4 ARCADE GAME SERIES: PAC-MAN PS4 ArcaniA: The Complete Tale PS4 Armikrog PS4 Armored Core PS1 Classic Armored Core: Verdict Day PS3 Assassin's Creed Chronicles Trilogy Vita Assassin's Creed Syndicate PS4 Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines PSP ASTEBREED PS4 Atelier Ayesha Plus - The Alchemist of Dusk Vita Atelier Escha & Logy Plus - Alchemists of the Dusk Sky Vita Atelier Meruru Plus: The Apprentice of Arland Vita Atelier Sophie - The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book Vita Atelier Totori Plus: The Adventurer of Arland Vita Azkend 2: The World Beneath PS4/Vita BADLAND: Game of the Year Edition PS4/Vita Banner Saga 2 PS4 Bard's Gold PS4/Vita Battle Hunter PS1 Classic Battle Worlds Kronos PS4 Battlefield 3 PS3 Beyond Eyes PS4 Beyond Good & Evil HD PS3 Binary Domain PS3 Bionic Commando: Rearmed 2 PS3 Bioshock 2 HD PS4 Bioshock Infinite HD PS4 Black Knight Sword PS3 BlazeRush PS3 Blood Knights PS4 Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain PS1 Classic Bloodborne PS4 BloodRayne 2 PS3 Blue Estate PS4 Blue Toad Murder Files: Epiosde 1 PS3 Bomberman ULTRA PS3 Bombing Busters PS4/Vita Borderlands 2 HD PS4 Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel HD PS4 Brandish: The Dark Revenant PSP Broforce PS4 Broken Age PS4/Vita Broken Sword 5 - the Serpent's Curse PS4 Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons PS3 Bulletstorm PS3 Call of Duty: Ghosts PS4 Calvino Noir PS4 Capcom Arcade Cabinet PS3 Carnage Heart EXA PSP Castlevania Chronicles PS1 Classic Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 PS3 Catherine PS3 Catlateral Damage PS4 Chronicles of Teddy: Harmony of Exidus PS4 CHRONO CROSS PS1 Classic CHRONO TRIGGER PS1 Classic Citizens of Earth Vita ClaDun x2 PSP Closure PS3 Code: Realize ~Guardian of Rebirth~ Vita Color Guardians PS4/Vita Conception II: Children of the Stars Vita Corpse Party: Blood Drive Vita Corpse Party: Book of Shadows PSP Costume Quest 2 PS4 Crash Bandicoot 2 PS1 Classic Crash Bandicoot 3: WARPED PS1 Classic Criminal Girls: Invite Only Vita Critter Crunch PS3 Croixleur Sigma PS4/Vita Crush PSP Crypt of the NecroDancer PS4/Vita CRYSIS 3 PS3 CTR: Crash Team Racing PS1 Classic Curses 'N Chaos Vita Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls Vita Dante's Inferno PS3 Dark Cloud PS4 Dark Cloud 2 PS4 Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin PS4 Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition PS4 Daxter PSP Daylight PS3 De Blob 2 PS3 DEAD OR ALIVE 5 Last Round PS4 Dead or Alive 5 Plus Vita Dead or Alive Paradise PSP Dead Rising 2: Off the Record PS4 Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut PS3 Deadpool PS3 DeathSpank: The Baconing PS3 Demon Gaze Vita Demon's Souls PS3 Deponia PS4 Derrick the Deathfin PS3 Destiny of Sprits Vita Destroy All Humans! Taobaka
There is a good site for backlogging called Backloggery with a pretty good customization and progress tracking if you are into that.

I think I fixed that but thanks for the heads up. I originally pasted the first list without a spoiler tag, then I cut and pasted it inside the spoiler tag, and it kept the white space where the list was. I deleted the white space so it should be fixed now. At least it is for me. Of course this issue wouldn't have happened if I did it right in the first place, or if we had HTML editing and I could just put the spoiler tags around my list. 16 minutes ago, Taobaka said: There is a good site for backlogging called Backloggery with a pretty good customization and progress tracking if you are into that. Thanks, but with my list as long as it is (and this is only about 2/3rds of it, I have Nintendo and Xbox lists also), I think using that site would be too cumbersome. Maybe once I get my backlog under control. Anyway, I think the deadline for the KYC event is today, so I'd love some suggestions for games to pick from that first list. I want to do 10 games so I can make some progress here, even if it's just to find 10 games I don't like and won't waste additional time on (I doubt that will happen though, I'm pretty easy to please). Here are some recommendations: - Abzû Rather short and relaxing game from some of the former Journey-devs - Deponia Rather short point-and-click adventure (can be done in less than 10 hours on first playthrough, even without a guide) - Gravity Rush 2 IMO the second installment is a mixed bag. The cities are much more fun to explore but it has some ridiculous collectibles where the clues aren't really of help. Still I would give it a try if you enjoyed the first one. - HELL YEAH! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit A game where you typically like the humor or hate it. For me it was a fun 2D puzzle action-platformer/metroidvania/whatever - Hyper Light Drifter Can't tell you anything about the gameplay besides the thing that it's an action-adventure but I will play it during this KYC. - Jotun Will also play this game during this KYC. Barely know anything about it but it seems to be focusing on the boss battles with some minor exploration parts. - Journey Just give it a try finally (says the one who hasn't played it either ) - Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands I barely know anything about the PoP-franchise but this game was really fun. This action-adventure IMO has a great balance between combats and platforming sections. - Salt and Sanctuary Heard that the game is a good "2D Dark Souls". If you play it you should choose the PS4-version as the Vita-version seems to have some performance problems - Sonic Generations It's a Sonic-game without horrible gameplay ideas and it's actually playable. What else do you want? - Wild Arms 3 I'm a biased fan but I would say go for this. Or Rogue Galaxy. - Ys: Memories of Celceta Fun to play and rather short JRPG with real time combats. IMO really addictive music. There are a few more games which could be added but I wanted to keep the list short at first. You might also want to post the link to your backlog-thread in the KYC-event:
MosesRockefeller
Thanks for the suggestions, @Crimson Idol. I think I will avoid RPGs and anything story-heavy for this event, that way I avoid getting absorbed in a game and not moving onto the next one. But there are some other good choices in there. Well, now that KYC is officially over, I have to say your recommendations were 50% accurate. I loved Abzu, but sadly found Hell Yeah! to be too "loose" (in terms of platforming) to enjoy. I did like the humor though. Of the games you recommended that you hadn't yet played, I didn't like Jotun, HLD didn't grab me, but I liked Journey and Salt and Sanctuary. So again, somewhere around 50% success. Anyway, I am going to try some of the games I didn't add for KYC. I have Ys: Memories of Celceta downloaded on my Vita so I will try that out soon. Do you remember some of the other games you were going to mention? I probably won't get into more RPGs at the moment since I am currently playing Kingdom Hearts: Re:Chain of Memories on PS4 and Persona 4 Golden on Vita. Two things I wanted to note in terms of my backlog: 1. Yes, my backlog has grown. I need to add a few games I recently bought. Ugh, this list is moving the wrong way! 2. I have committed to a ban on free-to-play games. This wasn't that hard for me, since I hate the implementation in every F2P game I've ever tried. But I really, really wanted Orcs Must Die! Unchained to prove me wrong, and if anything it's even more obviously based on grinding/spending than the others I've played. I uninstalled the ones on my PS4 (OMD, Let it Die, and a few others I hadn't tried yet), and I won't be installing new ones. With my backlog, the last thing I need is to spend any time on games that require huge time investments. To really get this backlog under control, I probably need to ban RPGs... but I enjoy them too much.

But as an compensation for those rather long JRPGs I could mention a few shorter games you can give a try should you feel the need to try something else. Broken Age Has the typical point-and-click length and can be done in a few hours (5 to 7 hours I guess). Personally I stopped caring for it during the second act as I didn't really like it, though. Color Guardians From what I read during all the reviews in the KYC-events it seems to be a quite fun endless (?) runner. Deadpool It feels rather clunky and the game's technique ain't the best but I had a blast playing it, even though I barely know Deadpool. LocoRoco This is IMO a nice platformer if you want some good mood, at least when you don't go for the 100%. Otherwise I didn't find anything as everything else I would suggest is either a JRPG or a lengthy game.

I'm not really into endless runners, but I should at least try Color Guardians to see if I should continue or abandon it and make room for something else. MosesRockefeller
I started LocoRoco (PSP) on my Vita over the weekend, and it seems pretty cool. I have only played the first level so far, and I can already see that I am not interested in getting 100% of the collectibles, because that would be making a relaxing game too stressful. As a bonus, my 3-year-old daughter loved watching me play it.
MosesRockefeller
Wow, so I let this topic go nowhere. At least I was busy gaming I guess. I am toying with an idea and I'd like to get some suggestions. Anyway, I'm not really big into New Year's Resolutions, but I have thought about various ways to deal with my backlog this year (2018). I realized that I need to do better about buying additional games when my backlog is already so big, but at the same time I am not going to wait on new games that I am really excited about. IN line with this realization, I have decided that I need to mostly avoid going for Platinums and 100% completion. There will be exceptions to this; for example, Telltale games and similar games that automatically award 100% completion just by completing the story, and there are certain series where I want to keep my 100%/Platinum pattern going (e.g. Assassin's Creed). But for the most part, I will be focusing on story completion from here on out. So when I talk about completing a game here, I am talking about completing the story, which often won't translate to 100% or Platinum completion. Why post on a trophy hunting site then, you might ask? Well, I think the community here is nice and it's a good place to chat with fellow gamers. All that said, back to the topic of the backlog itself. Keeping up with my actual backlog list (as shown in the first post here) seems like a pain. I typed up those lists back in June, but they have changed since then. I may eventually go back to the lists, but I plan on starting with something a bit different. What I am thinking for 2018, is that at the beginning of each month, I will post what I am playing or "about to play" for each console I have. Sometimes I have way more than a dozen games in mind, but I think for simplicity's sake I will limit it to 5 games per platform. Then when I finish a game, I'll post my thoughts, which could be one sentence or a lot more. I will try to give some time for each console, but as has always been true for me, there may be times when a console collects dust while I focus on others. I think that posting my progress will help me play a mix of backlog and new games, and I welcome input from the members here. For that reason I'd like to keep my backlog lists available, and I should probably get around to making them current. My main goal with this project is to be able to review my progress each month, and at the end of 2018, to hopefully see that I didn't just buy a bunch of new games, but also made a dent in my backlog. Another element I want to use, is stealing an idea from the KYC events that @Hemiak started. I only participated in one of those events, but it inspired me to adopt the "trial games by playing them for a few hours each" concept. As part of my lists of what I'm currently playing, I want to incorporate games that I'm trying out for a few hours and deciding whether to drop them from my backlog or continue on with them. There are some games I know I will complete, but there are a lot of games on my backlog that I bought on a whim and don't know much about. So, any ideas about the best way for me to do this? Should I start a new thread or just add to this one? Am I nuts for having this idea? Will the world even survive until the end of 2018?!?
Oobedoob S Benubi
Are you good at planning ahead? Personally I can't manage planning what I'll play for a whole month. I just try to not buy a new game before I've played through a few games since my last purchase.
Hemiak
I would just do it here unless you're going to open it to other people. That way your list is here if people want to make suggestions and everything is in one place for your updates.

Personally I can't manage planning what I'll play for a whole month. I just try to not buy a new game before I've played through a few games since my last purchase. If I was good at planning ahead, I wouldn't have two kids! Anyway, I wasn't really planning on sticking with set games for the whole month. I was thinking more that at the beginning of each month, I'd post the current games I'm playing, and list a few that I plan on playing next. But I don't have to stick with them. For example, I'm finishing up the AC Syndicate DLC on PS4 now, and I already know about 3 games that I'll play next. But any of those games could take a break if I get sidetracked. When I finish a game and post my thoughts, I'll post what I am starting up next, which may not always match my plans when I first posted them. Does that make sense? I like your comment about buying new games. Even if I can't keep my list of games updated 100% and mostly just list the games as I finish them, I think I need to post whenever I buy new games. Hopefully that will help me keep my spending in check. 24 minutes ago, Hemiak said: I would just do it here unless you're going to open it to other people. Maybe I should add links to the OP at the start of each month and as I finish games, to make things more organized. And yeah, I don't want to just post my thoughts, I'm hoping for some comments and suggestions. For example, I am curious if anyone else who played AC Syndicate's DLC had the same experience I did. I'll probably make my first "what I'm playing" post tomorrow and tweak the format as suggestions come in. MosesRockefeller
Alright, it's a new year and as mentioned above, I'm going to keep track of what I play and complete (meaning story, not 100%/Platinum trophies) across all platforms. I'm also planning on trying to keep my spending in check and spend more time going through my backlog. I will review each game I finish, which could be a one sentence summary or could be a long post going into various things I thought about the game. In addition to that, I resolve to try out at least 5 games per month that I haven't started yet and I'm not sure about committing to finishing. Think of that being a bit like the Kill Your Completion events. Some games can be quickly analyzed in 30 minutes but others might take a few hours before I can make a decision to continue playing, or drop off my backlog. I also intend to post whenever I buy a new game. I may not bring my backlog down very much over the year, but at the very least I'll have a bit of a "gaming diary" to see how the year goes. So anyway, here is my first update. Feel free to make comments or suggestions. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Currently Playing Spoiler PS4 Assassin's Creed Syndicate: Jack the Ripper DLC I am done with the story and just cleaning up the collectibles and side missions now. I should be done tonight or tomorrow. This is a rare exception to my "no more trophy hunting" rule. I have a history of Platinum/100% completion for the AC series, and this DLC is pretty quick to get the non-story things finished. The Walking Dead: Michonne I started this a while ago and finished episode 1, but I am coming back to play episodes 2 and 3 and finish it up. LEGO Worlds I played the game for a few hours but I need to give it some more time to decide if I want to "finish" it. It's not really a story-based game but it has some objectives to follow. I have a history of completing LEGO games 100% even without trophies. I'm not sure if I will stick to that for this game though. To be fair it's not a typical LEGO game. PS3 Nothing currently. Vita Persona 3 Portable (PSP) I started this a while ago but I've been plugging away at it ever since. I seem to be over 50% through the story. I finished Persona 4 Golden a couple of months ago, so I'm going backwards in the series with this. Right now I don't intend on playing 1 and 2, but after I finish 3 I will play the Epilogue story on the PS3 (which has the PS2 Classics version of the game that includes the Epilogue), then I'll play the fighting and dancing game spinoffs. At some point I'll get to Persona 5 on PS4. MegaTagmension Blanc + Neptune vs Zombies I have been playing this game a mission or two at a time. It's not grabbing me like the main series Neptunia games or the Superdimension Neptune vs Hard Girls spin off, but it's decent. Soul Sacrifice Delta I have finished most of the story but there is a bit left to do. The Platinum requires tons of grinding to build up "faction points" with 3 different factions, and I'm not even halfway done with the faction I started out with. I will probably stop once the story is done. Atelier Rorona Plus This series is one I have tried getting into a few times (always with this game, although I own newer games in the series as well) but I never stick with it long enough to give it a fair shot. Once I finish P3P I will play this long enough to decide whether to keep at it. Xbox One Nothing currently. Switch Mario+Rabbids Kingdom Battle I am currently on the 3rd world, and I think there are 4 or 5 total. It's a great game, but the difficulty is ramping up. Picross S I finally finished the regular Picross puzzles, and just started the second page of Mega Picross puzzles. The LEGO Ninjago Movie Video Game I finished the story but I will probably eventually do all the side missions and collectibles. Wii U New Super Mario Bros. U + New Super Luigi U I first played this when I got my Wii U (about 6 months after launch IIRC), but I stopped about halfway through the worlds. I recently decided to revisit it and just finish it up. I won't be going for all the "New SMB" coins that unlock levels in the bonus world, however. I'll probably just unlock the first level and leave it at that. Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Another game I started long ago, but I took a break during the first chapter and never managed to pick it back up. I played a couple of hours last weekend and got back into it again. This one will probably take me a while to finish. Yoshi's Woolly World For some reason I can't comprehend, I stopped after like 3 levels (back when it first came out) and haven't touched it since. This past weekend I played it long enough to finish the first world and had a blast. It's such a charming game. This is a great candidate for porting to the Switch, because it doesn't use the Gamepad as a second screen. 3DS Xenoblade Chronicles 3D I got this when it first release, and never touched it. I decided to check it out before buying Xenoblade Chronicles 2 on Switch, since I could do that for free. I played the prelude section and a little bit past that. I need to spend some more time to draw a conclusion on continuing. So far I like it, but it hasn't sucked me in completely. Senran Kagura Burst I played the first Vita game (which is apparently a spin-off) before the original, and the gameplay is different since this takes place in a 2D plane. It's kind of like the old TMNT games on NES/SNES in terms of gameplay. I finished the first chapter and I think I will finish the story. MosesRockefeller
I made my first purchases of 2018. NBA Playgrounds digital Switch $10 1/4/2018 Bayonetta 1/2 retail (preorder) Switch $48 1/9/2018 I might cancel the Bayonetta preorder once the eShop preorder goes online, especially if I can get Bayonetta 2 by itself for a decent price (I have already played Bayonetta 1 on PS3 and don't intend to play it again). MosesRockefeller
Playing In the Near Future Spoiler PS4 Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD I didn't start this series that long ago, and I'm already more than halfway through! Of course, my progress would be a LOT slower if I had tried to get the Platinum for any of the 4 games I've already finished. Horizon Zero Dawn I bought this a while back but haven't tried it yet. PS3 Persona 3 FES: The Answer (PS2 Classics) Once I finish P3P, I will play only the epilogue for this game since that is not included in P3P. Persona 4 Arena This is a continuation of the stories in P3 and P4. Even though I suck at fighting games (and have no desire to ever get good at them), I have heard it's not too difficult to get through the story campaign. Vita Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma I played the first two games in the series; it's time to end the trilogy. Freedom Wars I am close to the end of the campaign, but I got stuck on a boss. I like the game, so I want to finish up the story. The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky (PSP) I started this several months ago but lost my save when I had to switch Vita memory cards. I only lost a few hours, so I will start over and try to finish it this time (and make regular saves, which for PSP games means frequent save uploads to my laptop). Xbox One Alan Wake (X360 backwards compatibility) I never tried it on PC despite owning it on Steam, so I think the X1 is a good way to try it out. Halo 1 I played a little bit of this back when I was a PC-exclusive gamer. I have played a few hours of the X1 version but it hasn't really grabbed me. It's fine, but I don't like FPS games much anymore. I think I should at least finish the game though. Switch LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 This may be a good game for me to introduce my 3+ year old daughter to gaming. Right now she just watches me or occasionally presses a button to jump in platformers. This should be a nice relaxing game to play with her in short sessions. Golf Story I haven't started this yet, but I have heard only good things. Snake Pass Enough time has passed since I played Odyssey that I'm ready for another quirky 3D platformer. Wii U Metroid Prime (Wii) I am about halfway through this game now but I keep taking breaks from it. I like the atmosphere and gameplay, but I'm not sold on the Wiimote controls (which were updated from the Gamecube controls of the original game). I think I'd do better using a standard controller. I'm not sure if I have it in me to play the two sequels with the same controls. Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker This is a fun game that I started when it first came out, but never finished. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze I never finished the 3DS game that this is a sequel to, but I liked it when it wasn't super difficult. We'll see if I make it all the way through the sequel. Hyrule Warriors I've never gotten into the Warriors series of game, but the clever use of the Zelda franchise always made this one stand out. I played a campaign level this past weekend and decided to try to finish the campaign at least. It has a lot of neat touches, even for someone who's only vaguely familiar with the series prior to Breath of the Wild. 3DS Dragon Quest VIII I've never played more than a few minutes of any games in this series (besides the spin-off Builders game). This is apparently the best one. Kirby: Planet Robobot I recently finished Kirby: Triple Deluxe, and this one is apparently better. It should be a good way to whet my appetite for Kirby Star Allies on Switch. Edited January 11, 2018 by MosesRockefeller
MosesRockefeller
Well folks, I finished Assassin's Creed Syndicate: Jack the Ripper DLC. If anybody else has played it, I'm curious if you had a similar or different reaction. Here is what I thought. Spoiler I liked the new fear-based gameplay, and it was nice to get a historical storyline. I also liked the design decision to have Evie be the main player character. She was far more interesting than Jacob, who was very similar to previous AC protagonists. What I didn't like was the subject matter. I understand the fascination and mystery behind Jack the Ripper, but I think this DLC lets him off the hook slightly by showing him as an unhinged, extremist Assassin. Mercifully, the game didn't show gory detail of his cruel violence, but investigating his murder scenes was disturbing enough. However, I think the MOST disturbing aspect of the story, was the design choice to make Jack the player character for 2 or 3 sequences. Why? I honestly cannot see the positive side of that one. It's (unintentionally I think) glorifying a sadistic misogynist murderer. Ugh. It was almost enough to make me quit the DLC. I guess maybe Ubisoft was aiming for a "high art" angle, but I don't think they succeeded. Showcasing a murderer whose MO was slaughtering women, seems pretty tone deaf in modern times. I enjoyed the other trophy-less DLC packs far more. The Last Mahajara was cool because it focused on Duleep Singh, who I thought was an interesting character. The other murder mystery DLC with Arthur Conan Doyle and his friend, was also better. Both of these focused on historical figures, but did so with more skill I thought. I will probably start Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD tonight. Edited January 11, 2018 by MosesRockefeller

That's an interesting response to the Jack The Ripper DLC. I,o n the other hand, loved the fact you get him at all. A Victorian based game better have the most notorious killer they had. I for one is a huge fan of him. The elusiveness of his character and not knowing what is name is or where he came from made it perfect for the Assassins game. I never played any other AC game as this was my official first one. I thought it was perfect with those sequences cause again he is very mysterious. Investigating his crime scenes with none other than Inspector Abberline was awesome. Yes I am also glad they didn't show the women because it was very grotesque. Other then that I thought the DLC was perfect. It couldn't have been any better. BTW...... #TeamJacobFrye lol
