laptop keeps getting a warning from virus protector.

that something is blocked from trying to access my registry? i do a full scan and there's no threats. in the warning it says to do a full scan. i use avira, malwarebytes, and ccleaner, and still get the message randomly. it makes me nervous to sign on playstationstore and stuff because in case something tries getting my information. what would i do about this? i'm not a computer expert or even sure what registry is. but as long as its being blocked from reaching access is it safe? should i try a system restore to an earlier date? i'm not sure, thank you for your responses.

Could you be a little more specific on what pop up you are receiving or if possible attach a picture what it looks like?

i'm not sure how you take a picture from computer but the pop up appears at random. its in the lower right corner and it has a yellow or at other times a red symbol. then it says something was blocked from accessing my registry and to do a full scan. the avira virus protectors pops up the warning at random, then it disappears quick. sometimes its pops up multiple times in a row.

Open Windows Defender, make sure definitions are up-to date and run a full scan. Could just be a false positive tbh, posting a screen-shot of the pop-up/message would help.

alright i'll give that a go. how would i upload the image after i got it pasted on paint? do i need to put it in a link somehow?

Save it, upload to imgur or photobucket and paste the direct link here so we can see it.

Disable Avira for now and run a full scan with Windows Defender and see if there are any threats. Free anti-viruses like Avira, Avast etc sometimes show that there might be a virus in your system even though there actually isn't i.e - a false positive.

Basically what Intense said anti-virus programs treat other anti-virus programs as an actual virus giving you a false positive.

Its probably just Malwarebytes thats blocking a malicious site or something like that and informing you about it which means there is nothing malicious on your computer ..... I use Malwarebytes myself and it does that especially when im surfing porn :)

I highly recommend getting a proper antiviral program. CCleaner and Malwarebytes can hurt more than help depending. I would never use Avira or any free antiviral anymore(although I hear win10s built in defender does quite a good job).

I use Bitdefender, but there's also Kaspersky. Those are the only 2 anti-virus/Anti-Malware programs I would recommend.

Secondly it's already on the computers hdd. As I tell family, even with great protection, if you give permission (clicking a button, downloading and running/opening) then no program can help you(there are a few things. But nobody does it out of convenience, myself included).

I recommend to back up your photos/videos and anything you want to save. Then format.

I prefer to wipe the hdd, but I'm not as familiar with win10 as I am 7 or less. So no need to wipe. Just format after you have everything backed up on a USB stick.

Your problem will go away and the computer will run a bit smoother.

Malwarebytes is a great anti-malware program but its not a antivirus program therefore you need a proper antivirus program to supplement it like Bitdefender, Kaspersky, Norton or Eset just to name a few of the big ones ..... Ccleaner really doesnt help you with protection at all its just a optimization tool to clean out junk files and erase browser history/cookies and such stuff.

I hear bitdefender a bit in here. Is it really pretty good? I mean all i ever had been using is just good o' MSE on Windows 7 and I had a pretty shady site life these last 10yrs. I may have a virus or not, who knows Everything seems normal ^^;... but if its pretty good. I wouldnt mind downloading it for giggles for extra safety. Also we are mentioning the "free" bitdefender right? I aint paying no 55$+ for them software....im cheap. what can i say.

Yes Bitdefender is excellent, I have it on all my family computers, even those in other states. There is(somewhere) an option to have unlimited devices purchase.

Bitdefender is not free, you get a free trial perhaps. But I would not download anything that says Bitdefender is free.

If your computer is already infected, just backup, wipe(or simply format if it's a ssd), and reinstall windows 7.

I hear the win10 defender is decent, but I wouldn't trust my social, my credit cards, etc with win7 defender.

The $55 is the promotional price they have now and then(more frequent than not) for the full year covering at least 3 devices(though if you dig you'll surely find the unlimited devices for the same price)

It's a good deal.

There's a saying, "you can't have security and convenience at the same time"

We spend $60 on a game we play for a few months, but we don't protect our computers properly with antiviral programs that aren't free, uninterruptable power supplies, etc.

And then it's sad when something happens eventually.

I can only recommend. I hope you find this helpful. :)

is this a trial do you know or just a simple virus scan? maybe it doesnt have all the auto scan update things??

https://www.bitdefender.com/solutions/free.html

edit: I guess ill try it anyways since that is free, its probably just a very light version of the real thing.

Hmm I don't know...

It seems like their site. But I don't know.

I would email their customer support to see first. Nothing worse than downloading something to protect, but ends up destroying your os.

But again if you think you have a virus, malware, Spyware, etc. Don't risk it. In the least reinstall windows. And then move on from there.

Also I didn't mention, but if you don't use your computer for much else besides the internet, I highly recommend installing a linux os like Ubuntu. You'll never regret it.

But if you use a lot of programs that don't support Ubuntu, then it's not for you.

Although I have mine to dual boot, so I can use either or whenever I power up.

Unfortunately adobe programs don't really support linux :'(

It is an actual pop up from your anti virus? It could be a rouge program sending faux virus notifications trying to lure you into a specific course of action. I have seen that happen before. Have you installed any new programs recently? Maybe look through your programs and see if there is any your don't recognize or not sure what they do and do some research on them.

Don't use anti virus software, avira and the likes are trash adware. A decent adblocker (uBlock origin) and Windows Defender is enough. The adblocker will take care of anything suspicious and unless you download from shady websites, you're never going to get a virus. But even then your browser warns you.

This! , but I guess if he doesn't know how to printscreen , he won't know how to format and install a new OS
