PS+ games expire!?

16 posts in this topic

So i wanted to see my current wallet so i logged into my PlayStation account and i also looked at ''recently bought items'' and after every PS+ game i see an expire date of about half a year. I never knew this. Is it actually like this or am i misinterpreting something? If not, here's a warning for everyone.

The date shown will be when your PS+ subscription runs out.  You have to keep your PS+ subscription up to date to maintain access to those games.

oh okay, phew. almost got a heart attack when i saw it. thanks!

Also keep in mind that if you do not have internet access for whatever reason when those games expire on that day you will have to wait till you regain access to renew the licenses on them.

Is there still that issue with licenses not renewing if you let plus lapse or was that confined to just a few games a long time ago?

Was there even an issue like that?

I though if that happened, you just had to restart download and cancel after subscibing again to force the games license to renew (not that I only let my ps+ sub run out once 5 years ago or so, so I may be missing something about those bugs..).

Yeah, the PSPlus games are more a rental than actual ownership... you can play them but you have to pay every month its a bit of a joke i know, we should own them once downloaded to the console but nope, its basically a rental as i said.

If you download a PS+ game it will get a license to play the game until your then current PS+ subscription runs out. If you keep the game on your PS3 past that initial PS+ subscription and you try to play the game again, it will try to renew your license based on your current PS+ subscription.

^ Not everyone knows this I guess.

What everyone do know is that you should be able to download all the games you've "purchased" with PS+ as long as you got PS+, even if it has expired at some point between.

Games you purchase with a PS+ discount is yours regardless of if you still have PS+ or not.

You'll have access to your PS Plus games for as long as you're a member. After that, you can choose to buy the games on PSN, or just renew your membership.

On the PS4, if you stack your PS Plus membership by getting more than a year subscription at a time, the days till your Plus games expire update automatically (e.g. if you currently have 200 days left on them and then get another year of Plus, they'll update to 545 days).

The PS3 and Vita don't seem to do this, and I've often had games say "expired" when I'm still a Plus member. Simply starting the games renews your license (assuming you're connected to the internet) and updates the days left till your PS Plus expires again though.

So I wouldn't worry if a game says it's expired when you'll still a Plus member, just means it's "expired" since when your membership was originally meant to expire.

I read it in a PlayStation Community thread that some games won't renew and PlayStation got around it by some obscure t&s line, but since no one's backing me up I guess I've been paranoid of letting my plus lapse for nothing :P

That's definitely false. I lost only one PS+ game due to undisclosed causes and the Customer Service gave it back to me and it was untied to PS+ from that moment lol.
