In an article from Kotaku Final Fantasy producer Yoshinori Kitase puts 2 of the biggest FFVIII fan theories to rest! Finally!

And the most important information.

"On the theory that Final Fantasy 8's Squall dies at the end of Disc 1 when he's stabbed by Edea's ice spear and that the rest of the game is his dream: 

"No, that is not true," Kitase said, laughing. "I think he was actually stabbed around the shoulder area, so he was not dead."'

 

So there's that one! Squall was alive for the entirety of the game. Settled!

"On the theory that Final Fantasy 8's Rinoa is really Ultimecia:

"No, that is not true," Kitase said. "I don't think I'll incorporate that even if we do remake the game. But that being said, both Rinoa and Ultimecia are witches, so in that sense they are similar, but they're not the same person.""

 

So there we have it, Rinoa is never Ultimecia. 

This is imo the biggest fan theory FFVIII had, so getting a definitive answer is nice. Even though I liked the idea of it being a bittersweet theory. 

 

So that's that, however he does hint he likes some theories, and if they made a remake he'd keep them in mind.

I kind of liked the Rinoa = Ultimecia theory.  A lot of the parallels even made sense.   Would be hyped if they remade this, as it's my favorite FF game

What if the real theory that everyone missed is that Squall is trans edgelord? Like he wasn't an edgelord before but he went through a series of events and a surgery and we'll see it in a esteemed prequel coming soon.
It'll make trillions, believe me.


Also the dream death thing you said, its based on the whole life flashing before your eyes but instead its the rest of the story. lol

Oh, and as for a remake of FFVI: please, no. FFVI is the greatest game of all time, and the moment I hear the voice actor for Locke, that will be ruined.

Maybe an option to turn the voices off in the menus would be nice. 

 

I'm okay with a remake as long as guile's theme plays when you suplex the train with sabin

It's interesting how he mentions a remake of the game. I'd love to see that, but would happily settle for a PS4 version of the original much like FFVII got.

Ultimecia pulls Griever as a memory out of Squall's mind (made clear in the Japanese version, but the English translation did not keep it clear). That's why he also has the name you gave the ring's lion. Ultimecia does use Rinoa's weapons in Dissidia, but that is irrelevant as other characters (such as Kuja and Tidus) use weapons that aren't theirs either.

Unfortunately, train suplexing in VI isn't really the same kind of meme in Japan. It was called Meteodrive/Meteor Strike over there (has been used in later English translations as well) and it's only ever been used as a move again in two of the spin-off mobile games that have featured Sabin. The version used in Record Keeper (Scorching Meteor Strike) does have him basically put the opponent inside a meteor to do the throw move, so it's sort of close at least.

I already told all of you, Squall is actually trans-edgelord and we will be seeing a prequel to the events of FF8, this is no longer a theory, it's been confirmed on wikipedia, Buzzfeed, AND pornhub!! 
Leaks have already came out on some of the storyline, we find out why Seifer was so butthurt at Squall all the time, apparently they were gay together and Squall got his edgelord operation done so Seifer started feeling left out and abandoned...so that's why he came up with that training session to kill his love Squall because he was no longer the happy go lucky Squall he used to love, Seifer was so fueled by rage that he himself started to change and eventually he got delusions he was a white knight, and his job was to protect all the whamen, (case in point Ultimecia). So it tells the story how Squall became an edgelord and how Seifer became a white knight...also touches on Quistis's past on where she was a paid dominatrix for the Tonberry before giving up that life to become a teacher....truly amazing story, hope theres more to it otherwise the whole things spoiled...supposed to come out whenever I feel like it, they said. 

Annnnnyways, I loved the theories of this game, makes it more interesting, wished they never came out and said that they were unfounded. I liked the possibility of Ultimecia being a future Rinoa. Also I thought Squally dead theory was pretty cool too even if it was less likely...
Hope someone liked my stupid af story, took me awhile to make it up lmfaooo

8 was my least favorite for so long, then Type-0 took that spot hands down couple of years. Depending on trophy list, might re-play it.

 

After just re-watching the video, looks to me the ice pierced him more in the pectoral region and that is the upper part of the lung, so major blood arteries there too. As for the guy who said 'No' to the theories, the dude is a producer. Is it his place to give definitive answers like that? I figure that would fall more on the creator(s), writer(s) and such to say yay or nay on things.
