Post the games which were the most rewarding to yourselves with reasons why. This can be anything from obtaining an ultra rare Platinum, to an epic storyline or great memorable characters. My most memorable game would be The Last Of Us, from that opening it hit me hard in all the feels, till the end where i felt i experienced the journey with the characters I grew to love throughout. Also the sense of achievement when i obtained both the platinum's for PS3 and PS4 versions. :) Looking forward to hearing yours.

For me, the most rewarding games for me are co-op games I've played through with my mates. Special mention to Dying Light and Borderlands for creating really great stories to be shared and gameplay that is inclusive, and shout out to the friends I've played those with.

But the winner is Overcooked. Hands down the best couch co-op game I've played. You might be shouting at each other to chop lettuce faster, but it's just so much fun. I've played it at parties, with my parents, but most rewardingly, my girlfriend and I played through the game and pushed for 3 stars on every level. Great sense of mutual achievement.

Mine was Tales of Vesperia, it was long and needed a lot of attention to detail to plat with the amount of missables. Also, a degree of skill and luck is involved for the secret missions, snowboarding trophy, the poker and toy machines etc. There are also a ton of missable enemies, items and titles that all link to trophies making the majority of non-story related trophies missable, in particular the 100% items, titles and enemy books. I got the plat twice (once on my old account), and it took 137 hours the first time (as i missed one enemy and forgot to steal a weapon from one of the bosses near the end of the game which couldn't be gotten any other way) and 125 hours the second time  (didn't miss anything, and knew the shortest route already).

Another would be FFX-2 (80 hours to plat) as it's rare enough (probably more so due to lack of popularity). Getting 100% in FFX-2 on my first playthrough (having had a numerous playthroughs in the ps2 days) is another thing that I feel proud off as it's not the easiest thing to do since it's very non-linear.

I'll say Persona 4: Golden. I went into the game knowing nothing about and had average expectations for it. It turned out to be one of the best RPG's that I've played to date. I clocked in over 150 hours total and it rarely got boring. I enjoyed the mystery, the characters, the combat, and the social system. The only negative that came to mind was that the dungeons got repetitive near the middle of the game but they weren't the primary focus of the game so I got over it.

Secondly I want to mention Collar X Malice, a recent visual novel I played a month ago. Didn't feel like I would connect to it but it grew on mine because of how realistic and relate-able the cast was. It focused more on the story and made the main lead a stubborn, intelligent, but vulnerable woman. Being able to see the story from the perspective of the romantic leads allowed me to understand their motives, personality, and actions. I don't think a Visual Novel has captivated me that significantly. This would be the ideal Otomae game I would recommend a newcomer to try out.

There are a lot. Here are a few:

Dark Souls - It's not my favorite game without reason. It took quite some time to plat it, but I enjoyed every minute of it (even grinding out items in SP).

Katamari Forever - I picked up and played that game often, and when I got the plat, I pumped my fist.

Dark Cloud 2 - On the PS2, I never got all the medals, so it was awesome doing so on the PS4...and getting a trophy for it.

Rogue Legacy - Only one thing really sticks out in that game, and that's the battle with Ponce de Freon. Epic!

Pier Solar - I had much less trouble with the Eternal Slip minigame than many others, but I still pumped my fist both times when I did it.

Rock Band 2 - It was incredibly cool to sit down with the epic set list, and get all of the trophies associated with it in one go-round. I don't think that popped the plat for me, unfortunately (due to waiting for an online challenge that didn't require DLC songs), but I knew it was going to happen at that poin.

If this is about PS4 games only, then HITMAN takes the cake for me. Being able to get creative with your kills and achieve Silent Assassin rating in the missions is immensely satisfying. Especially getting Silent Assassin in the limited time Elusive Target events where you had only one chance to pull it off was really exciting.

Super Meat Boy when I get around to getting the last three no death runs finished.

Batman Arkham Knight is probably my proudest. All 110 trophies obtained. Enjoyed this game from start to finish. There were a lot of criticisms regarding the game not working on Steam and the way Rocksteady handled Arkham Knight, but I quickly got over them. It's definitely challenging at times, especially those combat community challenges which took me a lot of attempts to beat.

Overall I felt it was a proper way for Rocksteady to say goodbye to the series. Had a cast of memorable characters, Joker obviously being the best. Wouldn't mind playing it again if I ever make another account to trophy hunt.

The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim. For sheer value for money alone, I paid £10 for this second hand in June 2015 and played it for months before I was even interested in trophies. By the time I got the platinum and later, the 100% I'd clocked up over 1400 hours, staying in character the entire time. I never used to be one for roleplaying but Skyrim dragged it out of me. I'm now repeating the experience with Fallout 4

Another mention goes to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Like most Metal Gear fans I picked up the original on PS1 and immediately became hooked. It was fucking great playing the original two games on the HD collection, so when the Phantom Pain's ending brought the series full circle 19 years after I began it was a pretty nice feeling. Of course I was some way off the platinum when I reached the end so I essentially got to play the game twice and experienced Metal Gears finale all over again.

The Phantom Pain goes down as the most rewarding in terms of trophies too. It was beyond my skillset to start with so I really had to try hard for the platinum, especially since I was using my own methods for S ranks and mission tasks which made it harder. Looking back, it wasn't that difficult but one thing I loved about the Phantom Pain is that, in the moment, you swear you're screwed and it feels amazing when you pull something off whether it's a boss fight or a trophy you're chasing. I had that feeling the majority of the time when I turned my attention to the platinum.

Tales of Hears R - I really love the story and the characters. There were some cool and sad parts.

Atelier Ayesha PLUS - Was only rewarding when I finally figured out the alchemy system to defeat the last 4 bosses. Can't tell you how happy I was.

Ni No Kuni - The art, the story, the characters...I was totally into this story. Can't wait to play the second one.

Final Fantasy Type-0 - The story is amazing, and I really enjoyed the battle system. Very fast-paced and easy. This game was rewarding because the final dungeon was a bit difficult, and when I got to the end it was well worth it. The ending scene was super emotional.

Persona 4 Golden - Just a great experience all around.

Tales of Graces F - My first intro into the series. The grind at the end was stupid, but I still enjoyed my experience with the game. The banter between Pascal & Hubert is hilarious.

EDIT: Just saw that this was the PS4 forum. Just got my PS4, so I can't really name any games yet.

I have the plat for all these games, some were hard some were easy but they were all games I regard as 10/10s

The Walking Dead Season One - Never cried because of a game, this one didn't do it either but it has probably come the closest, that ending is a masterpiece and you must be dead inside if you don't feel anything from it!

Persona 4 Golden - Best JRPG I have ever played I played it this summer after hearing so much about it and was not disapointed, hoping to get around to Persona 5 before the end of the year!

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Playing on Deathmarch was a challange but I remember getting my ass handed to me so much in the first 20-30 hours of this game and eventaully it all clicked and became really satisfying. I'm probably one of the few people who played Witcher 1 & 2 to completion as well and this game was a perfect end to the trilogy.

The Last of Us - Grounded Mode made and already brilliant game even better, when the stakes are so much higher and you have to pick your battles, decide if you can spare two or three bullets for an encounter etc. One of the best games ever made I loved the hell out of it

Mass Effect 2 - Best Mass Effect Game, the game doesn't let up from start to finish excellent opening and excellent ending. Great writing and I prefer the way the game handles gear and skills in this one when compared with the other two in the original trilogy

Super Street Fighter 4 - Trial Athlete - I practiced and practiced for hours and hours on some trials, determined to do them all. In total I'd say it took around 3 months. I have a list of around 25 of the hardest characters where I wrote down how long each trial took and why I found them difficult. I even brought an arcade stick and modded it specifically for this trophy. Nearly gave up twice, but I hate giving up. Extremely addictive and was almost sad when I finally finished my last trial.

Metal Gear Rising Revengeance - This game is pure adrenaline, one of the few games I returned to after I'd got the platinum. Glad it was difficult, makes the plat or the more worthwhile. Such a shame what happened at Konami because a Metal Gear Rising Revengeance 2 would have been a dream come true.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 - Another game hard as nails but extremely rewarding too. I even brought the Ryu Hayabusa Kotobukiya statue as I enjoyed it so much. Planned out my trophy list so this was my 3000th trophy. Here was that moment it pinged:

Qoquwz4.jpg

Dead Space 2 - Hardcore mode - A good game turned great by this mode, again another adrenaline pumping game, this time knowing that death would mean restarting potentially hours of gameplay.

Wipeout HD - Elite Campaign Challenge - The most frustrating trophy of the lot as it doesn't matter how good you are, there is still a lot of luck involved. I finished this 6 years ago but have never forgot how many times I was hit with a missile, rocket or shock wave just as I was about to cross the finish line in first and then suddenly coming in last. In addition Zone Zeus was fun as hell, I remember continuing even after I got the trophy, can't remember what level I ended up at.

The most satisfying feeling I've had was finally getting 100% on Uncharted 3 for the PS3, but I'd far from call it rewarding. The multiplayer for that game put me off the franchise. I have UC4 on my bookshelf, don't know if I'll ever put it on.

Shadow Warrior 1 - The platinum for the game was a ridiculously hard achievement for me because of having to beat the Heroic Mode. Extremely rewarding to have obtained it because I would give up for months at a time, for the simple fact that some missions can be a brutal painstakingly nightmarish hell of 30 minutes to 1 hour long.

I Am Setsuna - It was an amazing story line, and had a new style to the old JRPG playing that I really like. By far one of my favorite games to date.

Final Fantasy 12 - I had beaten this game with a friend 2 times back on ps2 days. This time I finally got to try out the Zodiac Job System, and it was amazing. The game has a great story line, and some of the best graphics I seen for ps2 were made even more crisp on ps4 remaster.

Final Fantasy X - For pure nostalgia!

Berserk: Band of the Hawk - Because I am a fan of the anime what else :)

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana - It is not very often I will play the same game continuously for days because I get bored way to quickly. However this game was just to much fun. I put in 100s of hours into the platinum for this wonderful game, and not once did I think "I want something new." Just thoughts of "I have to be awake for work in 3 hours...

This is what I deem 'rewarding' - games where  using your own creativity is met by the game. It really felt in Hitman that no matter what smart-ass idea you had, it was possible to do.

In the same vein, all the Dishonored games and Prey felt the same - the game sets up the parameters, but leaves you to figure out how you want to play, and never seems to tell you "no, that won't work".

In some ways I felt the same thing from the old Assassins Creed Multiplayer (the Brotherhood through to Black Flag modes) - a multiplayer where 3 creative, clever kills could win the match against someone elses 10 basic run-and-stabs.

man I miss that multiplayer... was bummed as hell that they removed it from Unity onwards...

For me, it has to be The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

That game has such a fantastic story with amazingly rich lore & back story & some of its characters are among the best written I've ever had the pleasure to experience (I've been a gamer for 24 years).

I put just over 400 hours into it  across 2 playthroughs over 2 years to 100% the game & I don't regret a second of it.

The first playthrough (Blood & Broken Bones) had around 330 hours of it because I wanted to see & explore every bit of it. Many multiple reloads to see all the endings to quests (side & main), finding all quests (even none tracked ones) finishing all treasure hunts & filling all bestiary & character bios etc, crafting & fully upgrading every Witcher gear set, exploring every last bit of the accessible maps including the DLC & finding all easter eggs. To date the only secret that has eluded me is seeing The Flying Dutchman in Skellige, I've seen videos of it but never managed to see it in my own game.

The second playthrough was intended to be a fast playthrough of Death March on New Game+. That failed miserably as I found myself wanting to finish all the quests linked to the main story & all of Geralt's friends quests again so what could of taken me 20 hours ended up taking around 70.

There aren't many games I put anywhere near that much time into but thanks to the characters, story, lore & world it was set in hours passed in the blink of an eye.

I have to agree with the above post!  I picked up Life is Strange recently for real cheap and just finished it the other day... I didn't really know anything about it other than it was a story based game... my mate said it was like the Telltale games... however I was definitely a lot more invested in that story, such a fantastic game, some real dark and disturbing moments, and a great experience to get into without knowing anything about the game!

Aside from that however... for me the most rewarding game experience I had was completing Axiom Verge... I went full on kid with it again, drawing maps with planned paths to reach the end without dying and within a certain time limit... a great game... and it was good to stumble into another game with little knowledge of it only to be pleasantly surprised and my love for Metroidvania games re-opened!
