Despair the 3rd: Trophy Discussion (SPOILERS!!!)

Recommended Posts

Well, here it is boys and girls! I am super excited about this game. But first things first, I'm am really happy that they used a bit of creativity for the trophy tiles! Hooray! They look great :D

A handful of the trophies are what we are used to seeing with the other Danganronpa titles. I'm interested in how or what will be used to defeat the bosses though. There are also a couple of difficulty trophies.

What are your thoughts?

I don't recommend looking at the trophy list if you still want to be surprised. I had a quick look, but I won't be playing the game anytime soon.

inb4 'trophy descriptions contain spoilers' =D

Welp! I totally forgot about that. I'll change the heading. But knowing me, I'll probably forget about it. I still have to play Danganronpa 2 and Ultra Despair Girls. Luckily for me, I haven't really looked at either trophy sets yet.

I think this is the US version.

Thanks for the reply! I've just seen that the other list is the chinese one... Why us European must always be the last in everything gaming related?

Anyway, back to topic: I think only the trophies tied to the minigame "Ultimate Talent Development Plan" are time consuming, fortunately there's no grinding involved in the new School Mode this time!

I'm not looking at the trophies whatsoever since I heard that one of the trophy icons have a huge spoiler on them. But yeah, really excited for this game. I was replaying the first two games prior to playing V3 (since I never played the first two games on the Vita). But yeah, I doubt I can replay the second game in time xD

About the mean difficulty trophies: can we change the difficulty just before the mini-games to get the trophies then reloading our saves? Or have we to do all the game in mean difficulty?

Mini games have their own difficulty. For example, If you go into Salmon Run, the game will ask you in which difficulty you want to play. you can only bet 99 coins in the easiest dif, 999 in the normal one and 9999 in the hardest one.

So who wants to be the one who has to tell us there is no easy way to get the S Rank in Monolith miner minigame. :awesome:

Not exactly super easy, but some jp person created an Excel sheet that allows you to automate testing of the game

It wasn't terrible, it probably is a bit rng but all I really did was spend a good 1 - 1 1/2 hr on one puzzle taking a picture of whatever I uncovered next and spending ages (while paused of course) preplanning with a few friends and simulating moves through paint.

I believe I managed to do it with 2 (maybe 3?) of the fish skeletons screwed up.

Just tried that for the past hour or so, Not working. Get a macro error every time i try to get it to work, seems like it doesn't like English computers.

Sorry to hear that. I'll probably try on a later date when I finish doing the silly test.

Edit: I haven't tested it yet, but I got the Excel sheet working. However, you do need to do a few things. Change VBA's font to something that can support Japanese (you might need to go install a font), and then change system locale to Japanese.

So, are we going to have to beat death road to despair for any of the trophies. I'm trying to look it up but I'm getting conflicting info on it.

You might be getting conflicting info because of something that happens in the plot.  Chapter 5 spoilers here, but very very vaguely described to keep actual plot spoilers minimal:

Spoiler

In chapter 5 you get access to an item that allows you to attempt it again and disable all the traps.  Doing so is part of the plot and does lead to a storyline trophy.  So technically yes, it's required for a trophy.  What isn't required is the version at the beginning of the game.  The version that is required is so incredibly easy that it requires no skill at all.

That being said, the only trophies that seem to require skill are the ones for the casino minigames that require getting a S rank on Mean difficulty to get.  Everything else just requires time or a guide on how to find it.  Nothing is even missable because you have the chapter select to go back and get stuff like the hidden monokumas or to replay the trials for the alternate routes.

Working on a guide, give us a bit of time!

For anyone trying to get the script to work, I got it to work by switching my system to a japanese locale, and changing Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) to use a text that supported japanese characters.

Screenshot of the script working on my side, on my S rank run.

For those wondering how to use the scripted sheet.

1. Fill out the board,

2. Press the big button in the box labeled 3 (Step 2's default values should be fine for your needs)

With the previous steps, your boxes will look like above.

3. Change the number in the step 2 box to 3000 (1000 is a lot faster, but I had plenty of instances where I missed the best result with that few. If you don't mind how long it takes, feel free to move to 10000)

4. Do the first few moves by following what is presented by pressing the right arrow on box 4.

5. If you discover something note it down on box 5 with the number 1 (this is to help you evaluate where monokumas or fish fossils are)

6. After every few moves, press the bottom button on box 3. Then press the button in Box 2. This will reevaluate your field to look for better answers.

7. In Box 4, press the end arrow button to check what the end result of the new pattern is. If you don't like it, press the down arrow in Box 4 and then press the end arrow again to see how the new pattern compares.

8. When you found an ending you like, press the start arrow in Box 4

9. Repeat steps 4-8 until you finish the puzzle and hopefully get the S rank.

On my first run, I didn't try to use any functionality of the script, but on my 2nd run, I was still figuring out the script, but got the S rank anyway.
