Gr4de_04
i started this game 2 days ago and although i looked at the trophy guide beforehand i was kinda overwhelmed by the amount of content this game has. Im curently at mission 9 and haven't really done much besides missions. The trophy guide just says to focus on missions, but i dont wanna beat the campaign to find out that if i had made a certain choice earlier i could have saved over 20 hours of unnecessary gameplay so to speak. Is there anything i should work towards as my main focus while doing missions? are there certain resources i need to look out for, or that are scarce and i shouldn't just be spending on random stuff? are there certain weapon/item upgrades i should do? what should i do with mother base? thusfar ive upgraded each platform to 1/4 but havent done anything becides that. I just learned a couple minutes ago theres a morale you can increase when u go to mother base. although im not sure what that does. Any input on what i should focus on would be great! thanks in advance.
Popular Post FarSideOfSaturn
From what I've read most players follow the guide and play through the missions first before going back for S ranks and mission tasks. It's a strategy I agree with and what I did myself when going for the platinum. The main advantage of playing through the whole game first is when you go back for your ranks and tasks is you'll be completely familiar with the game and more able to deal with carrying out the requirements. The other advantage is you'll probably have already developed much better equipment to help stack the odds even more in your favour and should have a decent amount of resources and manpower to develop even more if you have to. If you've used your buddies often you'll be able to develop better equipment for them too increasing their effectiveness. In my playthrough Quiet was essentially able to S rank a couple of missions for me without me lifting a finger, and even scored me a few mission tasks. Another example, during my S rank attempt for "Where Do the Bees Sleep"...a combination of my upgraded grenade launcher and Quiet with her most powerful rifle took the boss enemies down in what I estimate was no more than 10 seconds As for resources, while they're fairly plentiful the sheer amount you'll need means you should take anything that isn't nailed down. According to the guide, completing a mission will cause resources to be reset in other missions. Alternatively if you find a sizable amount of resources, like the amount available in mission 12 for example you can collect them, force the game to save and then restart the mission to farm them repeatedly. I can't speak for others but I didn't find this to be necessary as I had a sizable amount by the time I'd finished the game. On to weapons and equipment. There's a lot of end game equipment that's extremely useful for going back for S ranks and mission tasks, stealth camo for example, parasite armour can be useful if you take guns blazing approach. Some equipment requires a specialist to develop it so keep an eye for those and rescue them ASAP in main missions and side missions. Everything else depends how you want to play the game, whether you want to be stealthy or not, each approach has it's own advantages and disadvantages with stealth generally being slow and safe and going loud the faster and more dangerous approach. When I went back for the S ranks, I combined both and carried a silenced sniper rifle, silenced tranquilizer gun and a grenade launcher for most missions, that allowed me to use both approaches as and when I needed to. Motherbase is definitely worth investing in. You'll need to anyway for the architect trophy. One advantage is the extra staff capacity, and as you progress through the game you'll be able to recruit better soldiers. Your base development platform for example will generate extra resources faster with each level up which reduces the strain on you having to gather everything yourself. In addition you'll gain to access to better weapons and equipment as your R&D platform levels up. Definitely play the game while connected online too for access to challenge tasks. These are like mission tasks but aren't required for the platinum. Basically, these are additional conditions you can meet during a mission, for example, finish a mission with an A rank. These give you extra resources, money and high ranked staff so it's worth doing. In general, I'd say just play the game however you want to until the end. There's a chance you'll knock out an S rank or two and definitely some mission tasks along the way. Once you're done, sit back and see where you are, what you have left to do and decide how to best approach it. That's just me though, I was pretty relaxed about the whole thing and was willing to take my time with it. There's a lot of members here knowledgeable about the game who'll want to reply too so I'd maybe sit tight for now and see what others have to say before you make a decision if you need more information. Good luck! Edited October 19, 2017 by FarSideOfSaturn

Gr4de_04
@FarSideOfSaturn Thanks for the detailed reply. Ill try to keep these things in mind as i progress through the game. Seems a lot of people agree with you since u got 6 upvotes (including mine) 1 more thing though; 6 hours ago, FarSideOfSaturn said: As for resources, while they're fairly plentiful the sheer amount you'll need means you should take anything that isn't nailed down. Does this include all the artillery and machine guns too?

You're welcome! 53 minutes ago, gamesfourever said: @FarSideOfSaturn 1 more thing though; Does this include all the artillery and machine guns too? In the beginning to mid part of the game, absoutely. You'll probably be developing a lot of equipment and while arttillery/machine guns don't yield much of a profit there's enough of them to make it worthwhile. GMP can get a little tight in the early stages especially so any profit could make the difference between developing something you need or going on without it for a while. In the later stages it shouldn't nessessary to fulton them out for profit as you should be swimming in GMP by that point. It might still be worth fultoning them so they can't be used against you but the enemy will notice they're gone and begin searching for you. I've never found it to be worth the hassle late on in the game personally.
Charizarzar
I've been mixing it up since they side ops eventually start to get a little samey (not horribly so, but there's just so many of them). Side ops can also be a good way of collecting S Rank soldiers.
tinman_1954
FarSideOfSaturn basically has the right approach and has helped me a lot with this game but I must disagree with one point he/she has made. I strongly recommend against selling anything you collect. This may help with short term money problems but has negative long term side affects. Everything you collect has a point value that figures into other aspects of the game. For example; collecting anti aircraft guns. These items are needed and used to defend your mother base and FOBs. The more you have the better you can defend yourself against attacks. Walker Gears figure into both your offensive and defensive capabilities. This is especially important when participating in the Short and Weekly Virtual Battles Leagues on line where your PF Points are used to obtain S+ and S++ staff members. Tanks and armored vehicles figure into your offensive capabilities. Machineguns and mortars figure into your defensive capabilities etc. etc. Keep in mind that Hideo designed this game to be a non-lethal stealth game so develop those type weapons and items first. The use of deadly force is severely penalized. My weapons of choice are the M2000-NL sniper rifle, the WU S.Pistol, level 6 EMN-Mines, level 4 ATB-Mines, level 5 Sleep Grenades and the level 4 Sneaking Suit. I use Quiet and her Guilty Butterfly a lot. Building mother base and FOBs will help with obtaining money and resources on a regular basis. Plants and animals you will have to grind for. Kimbapbap
I'm 50 hours into the game and barely scratched the 20% overall completion mark. Wow this game will take awhile to plat.
