Hey guys!

I uploaded my Mein Leben walkthrough to Youtube, feel free to check it out and see my take on the difficulty. There are some skips in them, but no glitches. 

Some things do go wrong here, especially on the Roswell levels, but at least it's a good showcase on what to do on those specific spots.

Finally got the platinum after 7 deaths!

 

Death #1 - Roswell, that damned elevator section. Hard to stealth and do the skip glitch, got sniped by a lucky bullet.

 

Death #2 - Courthouse, outermost edge of grenade splash damage killed me at full armor and health.

 

Death #3 - Ausmerzer, final battle. Got too cocky and realized I didn't have an EMP grenade to run past him for the ladder and got curbstomped by the boss mech like an idiot.

 

Death #4 and #5 - Couldn't pull the skip glitches properly.

 

Death #6 and #7 - Game crashed i.e. blue screen at courthouse and the final battle just after successfully beating both of them. Literally, lost my $#!+ and blew a couple of gaskets which resulted in me screaming in my pillow LMAO. Took a long break before getting back into this in order to preserve what sanity I had left. 

 

Attempt #8 - Success - Lots of close calls at critical juncture points like Manhattan, Roswell, Courthouse, New Orleans, and Ausmerzer. Also, when you're gonna kill Frau Engel at the end, be sure you've grabbed some armor in the previous level or grab all the health items in the TV production staff room to overcharge yourself. One shot without armor dropped my health from 100 to 30 when my dumbass forgot to grab them and I almost lost the run. DON'T GET ARROGANT/COCKY!!!

 

My thanks and shoutout to these 2 YouTubers and their videos below for making this possible. Only use the world record strategy if you're ABSOLUTELY SURE you can pull it off. I had to mix and match both to my playstyle in order to pull this off.

 

NOTE: Even if you follow these video strats, anything and everything CAN and WILL go wrong. Expect slight deviations and differences and pray that the AI/RNG will have mercy on you.

I pulled off Mein Leben on Steam and will be doing it again soon on PS4.  The videos folks linked up thread are very good, especially Breadborne's.

 

It took me about 8-10 attempts (I didn't keep super close track).

 

Several deaths where in the opening level by just being lazy after a failed, long run.

 

Once in Manhattan by deviating from a known strat because, again, laziness.

 

Two deaths (in a row!) on the rocket train trying to make a jump to the ladder from the platform with the patrolling Supersoldaten.  I abandoned that strat immediately and never had a problem.

 

My four, legitimate deaths were in New Orleans Lakeview, dying in the final encounter with the burning building that you must get to the top for the level exit.  Crazy enough I never ever ever had problems in this section during my IADI practice runs, but on ML something about my nerves made my run'n'gun approach not work.  My tip for this spot - you can be sneaky and stealth kill the couple of regular soldiers at the start of the encounter, outside the building.  Then you can snipe the Supersoldatens with the Laserkraftwerk and still remain in stealth.  Then, get out the upgraded shotguns and just run through the building (must have battlewalkers to get past a broken staircase) shooting anything that gets in the way.

 

I had Venus and Ausmerzer on snooze mode from like 15 hours of offline practice so I one-shot that after I got past the Lakeview roadblock.  For the final encounter I found the grenade skip sort of glitchy, and elected instead to fight the two Zerstorers legitimately.  I could see doing this on a controller and being more open to practicing the skip, it just depends on how confident I feel doing the actual fighting with a controller instead of KBM.

I've just done it!!

 

So freaking happy, the rush, the adrenaline in the end was really worth it!! Its quite similar to max payne 3 to be honest, once you get the battle walker is a new whole game! The toughest part was venus part 2.. that was a B!@$ !! Died 5 times there, once doing the glitch, and the rest by mine mistake aka  randomines of the AI.  But i gotta say, ive followed a few guides and the one that helped me the most was this one below

I just died on my second ML run on the ramp run to the end after the final boss battle...

 

I used the grenade skip and didn't deal with the lone trooper left outside.  Upon rewinding the recording he was right there so it's completely on me for missing him!  Lesson learned on that one.  I had many things go wrong on that run, so I was honestly on borrowed time.  Sort of a bummer it was something so silly that knocked me off, but I foresee this getting toppled very soon.

 

edit: Here in the WR run posted upthread the runner was shot in the back by the same soldier, he just got lucky!

After my last post I failed like 4 attempts in a row on very stupid/uncharacteristic shit, which got me flummoxed given I'd already cleared Mein Leben on Steam.  I took a couple days off, and still had issues when I got back to it.  The key ended up being me moving my PS5 out of my living room (with mediocre light control) up to my office set up and lo and behold, I had a very confident run that rivaled my Steam completion for comfort.

 

I only had a couple of close calls that I can recall.

 

1) Venus, before the surface - using Breadborne's guide I somehow managed to make the patrols suspicious and deviate from their typical pathing.  I'd never ever had this happen during a live run or practice.  I suspect it's because I hesitated on the triggers for a moment when I was blasting the first Supersoldaten with the silenced machine pistols.  I had to sprint to the exit space capsule with shotguns out blasting everything in my way.

 

2) Had a close class with a Supersoldaten detecting me in the second ODIN control center room in Ausmerzer 2.  Set the alarm off but I knew great camping spots to funnel the baddies through until I got the commander.  I did take a huge hit to my health, though.  Bless you upgraded battlewalkers and ramshackles!  Those are truly game changers.  On Steam I skipped those upgrade quests out of ignorance and not paying close attention to the guides until my final run.

 

What a fantastic game, and a nerve wracking experience.  I'm sort of sad it's over, but man those were some fun and challenging 100 hours I spent over two platforms!

Just completed mein leben on something like my 10th try, I'm not sure of the exact number. I died twice on Venus which was really frustrating.

 

I also messed up right at the final boss fight on my successful attempt, I was using the method where you kill the first boss as soon he spawns then throw an EMP grenade at the other then run up the ladder, I hesitated and didn't instakill the first one so had to run into the underground section and very carefully pick them both off. My heart was racing but I managed to do it. 

 

The only skip I used was the one in Section F part 2 where you run at the wall and and then swim to lever to open the nuke container.

 

For anyone attempting Mein Leben I highly recommend this video:

it helped me a huge amount. The only thing it doesn't do is tell you where to go if things go south. Also its a year old so there might be new strats that aren't in this video.

Alright, hope this is helpful.  I'm going to list my resources and tips for my successful run.  As everyone else has noted, the best guide to start with is Breadborne's.  I'll link it for posterity even though it's slathered all over the last couple of pages.

A video I produced for how I cleared the New Orleans night, final encounter trying to get to the top of the burning building.  Breadborne's guide recommends slowly clearing the building - I ALWAYS failed this live so I came up with the alternate approach.  It's very consistent, but if you somehow fail the beginning stealth it's best to beeline it either to the building with the upgrade kit and camp, or retreat all the way to the sewer entrance and pick people off.

And finally, what I feel is the best way to tackle the final boss battle on the Ausmerzer.  If you have the skills to straight up fight (or the strat fails live by not getting off the Zerstorer headshot) your best bet is to book it to the hallways and constantly run back and forth clearing out soldiers until the waves subside, and then peek fight the Zerstorer(s).  Don't stay in one spot for long if you do have to fight straight up, it's easy to get flanked underground.

Honestly, the above channel has some pretty good tips and alternate approaches to scenarios if Breadborne's aren't working for you.

 

Things I did different than Breadborne not covered, and general tips

1. I'm not a fan of the machine pistols and highly recommend using the Suppressed Pistols for the vast majority of the stealth sections (and sneak kills and hatchet throws).  There is one specific instance where I do use the machine pistols per his guide, which is Venus.  The first part is supposed to be very finicky with pathing and I found 100% success correctly following his route, requiring the machine pistols upgraded.
2. Per above, my upgrade order was Pistols -> Suppressor, Sturmgewehr -> Marksman Scope, Sturmgewehr -> Armor Piercing, Laserkraftwerk -> Supercharge, Laserkraftwerk -> Battery Capacity, (hold on to to your upgrade kits until) Schockhammer - Rotor, Schockhammer -> Ricochet (at same time, extra kit not shown in guide but is found in the Eva's Hammer before or after the second Sektion F visit), and then it's to taste but you should have Maschinenpistole -> Nailgun and Maschinenpistole -> Suppressor (for Venus), Sturmgewehr -> Jungle magazine and Handgranate -> Fragmentation, Handgranate -> EMP by the final encounter (NO DIESEL UPGRADE!)
3. Don't bother with extremely fancy skips if you aren't comfortable with them, especially ones that go out of geometry.  The Roswell Elevator skip and the Venus outdoor mantling skip are A-OK, but of course should be practiced.
4. Practice, practice, practice, and practice some more on IADI.  For every optimal encounter strategy, have a back up.  Know where the baddies come from and a good funneling point should you set off an alarm.  And consider that safe combat is always better than a risky, faster stealth strategy.  The AI is pretty stupid and you can absolutely find good hiding spots and just mow down any enemy from one direction.
5. Be patient, and if you start sucking eggs on your run where you've never had problems, that's a sign of fatigue and it's beneficial to take some time off.

Forgive me for this massive incoming post, but I kept a “Death Diary” during my journey and wanted to share it here. This is more or less an accurate accounting of my journey towards Mein Leben and the Wolfenstein 2 platinum trophy, minus a few dumb wheelchair deaths and 3 or 4 times I died while AFK’ing during that awfully long cutscene on the Ausmerzer.

 

My diary hasn’t seen the light of day yet as I had to repeatedly hide it from Frau Engel’s men every time they searched my room, but it’s time for publication now. Das is mine Tagebuch!!!! *hits door with axe*

Mein Leben runs

 

Attempt #1 - Died @ Roswell train. 

 

The very first guy in the level (who you kill on the top deck before dropping through the vent) turned to look right at me as I was approaching him from afar. I always sneak up and melee kill him and he literally never moves from that position in all my playthroughs and practice runs, so it caught me so completely off guard when he turned towards me. By the time I starting shooting at him it was too late and I could already see the commander suspicion bar filling up and knew I was screwed. Still almost recovered, as I managed to clear the room and all the reinforcements from the rafters above, but the second I dropped down to the weapon kit to make a run for the train lever, I got INSTANTLY smoked by the dog. I was weak and had no idea he was waiting under the balcony, out of sight the whole time, and was positioned in the most unfortunate spot ever when I dropped off the rafters - literally right behind me next to the box.

Attempt #2 - Died @ Oberkommando bomb area

 

Was really annoyed by this fail. I got distracted for a few seconds in real life right as I was running into the room where the commander and bomb is. Because of this I didn’t realize my motion to swap back to dual machinepistols didn’t trigger on the left hand side so I ended up firing a shotgun blast at the commander and setting off the alarm to the area right as I entered the room. Things spiralled from there.

 

Attempt #3 - Died @ Oberkommando elevator

 

Terrible run. First I got stuck doing the Section F Revisit skip, took me like 10 mins just to get through the wall. Then I somehow got stuck inside the desk even after pulling the lever to open the door. Thought the run was toast but after much difficulty I managed to recover and worm my way out of there through the bottom of the map, only to get back to Roswell again and fall while jumping to the elevator rails. Of course as per Mein Leben tradition it was the first time I ever saw either of those situations or died like that in any run before.

 

Attempt #4 - Died @ Courthouse, Part 2

 

I have no idea what even happened. I cleared the first wave of enemies, killed both Supersoldats that spawned in, and then waited a few seconds for the gate to open. As soon as the dog appeared around the corner I shot him directly in the face with the hammergewehr weapon, but there was suddenly a huge explosion that knocked me over and I caught on fire and burned to death on the spot in about 3 seconds flat. I have no idea if it was a grenade tossed at me or some kind of nearby tank in the pile of bodies that exploded (this seems likely). But I had already exploded the Supersoldat’s tanks to kill him, not to mention is body was behind the desk, so I’m pretty sure it couldn’t have been that. Another lesson that in this mode you can randomly die to anything, at any time, for any reason.

 

Attempt #5 - Died @ New Orleans 3

 

I was in the burning building literally seconds away from exiting the level and heading to Venus. I had a rogue enemy off somewhere shooting at me (right after the dog runs down the stairs) and strayed from my usual path to look for him as I didn’t want to get blasted in the ass from behind right as I made my move to exfiltrate the level. Only that’s exactly what happened anyways. He must have been a shot gunner and standing 5 ft away because I died instantly when he shot me in the back.

 

Attempt #6 - Died @ Ausmerzer (2nd level)

 

Impatient to quickly get back to where I was in last attempt, I triggered an alarm at the final stealth area and got cornered and overwhelmed quickly.

 

Attempt #7 - Died @ Courthouse, Part 2

 

Got flustered and in a bad situation quickly. It started with the appearance of the dog. I quickly shot him with the hammergewehr then dropped it, but realized he was still alive while I was making a run for the door. Quickly put a few panicked nail bolts into him which looked to finish him off, then ran out of the room and up to the next level when I heard him coming behind up me fast. That son of a bitch still wasn’t dead. I whipped around and killed him, but not before he grabbed my ankle and a robot shot me while lying on the floor. I kept fighting in a very weakened state, but died a minute or so later after clearing all the regular soldiers when I got rushed by 2 robots at once, 1 from the ramp and 1 from the left-hand side door simultaneously. Bad luck there. Boo.

 

Attempt #8 - Died @ Final Boss

 

This one sucked so bad. Completely flawless run up to the final boss, every single strat executed perfectly. No nerves. I was sure this was THE run. And then I got killed by a regular fucking soldier who somehow flanked me during the beginning where the Supersoldats shoot out of the silos. I had just killed the 6th and last Supersoldat when this guy blasted me from behind and I wasn’t able to turn around in time. Never even saw him. From nearly full HP/Armour to dead in 2 seconds flat. Minutes away from platinum. Sigh.

 

Note: I practiced the hell out of that fight afterwards and noticed this flanking seems to happen about 1/5 times. For some reason one of the enemies will sometimes take a long path around the side of the deck, then sneak up behind you while you’re fighting the Supersoldats. Keep an eye out for him because dying here sucks.

 

Attempt #9 - Died @ Manhattan Nuclear Bunker

 

Aggravating to die in a spot like this. Killed the first enemy in perfect stealth, rounded the corner to the second enemy but rather than having his back turned like he always does, he was just standing there directly facing me. He started shooting first while simultaneously strafing sideways (so half my nail bolts missed him with return fire) and dropped me down to about 25 health/0 armour where the radiation and 3rd enemy (now alerted) quickly finished me off.
 

Once again, like so many other deaths, I’ve never once died here before, ever. Mein Leben seems to love throwing curveballs at you.

 

Attempt #10 - Died @ Venus, Audition

 

Utterly unbelievable. I accidentally clicked the line “You’re a nazi worm” instead of “nazi whore” during the audition. I knew this was instantly fatal and should have quit out immediately, but I played the audition through hoping Mr. Hitler or the game itself might take pity on me and let me live. I’ll take the bullet in the brain as a no.

 

Note: Pay attention. The lines of dialogue get shuffled around each time.

 

Attempt #11 - Died @ Courthouse, Part 2

 

Terrible courthouse run. It started with a weird moment where an enemy was standing in plain view in front of the bench hiding spot, on the right-hand side, but he must have just been at an ever so slight angle that the desk was shielding him from damage. Shot him about 5 or 6 times with the Hammergewehr but he managed to chip off 120 Armour points before I was able to readjust the line of fire and kill him. This in itself may not have mattered when I got upstairs to re-armour, but it was followed by a very late dog spawn (by far the latest one I’ve seen thus far) and set off an unfortunate chain of events that ultimately lead to me dying upstairs while trying to get set up a few mins later.

 

Attempt #12 - Died Oberkommando elevator

 

Very aggravating death. Fell when jumping to the elevator rails. I pressed X on the controller but the button press simply didn’t register and so BJ just walked off the edge into the abyss. This moment is the first time I’ve felt really discouraged. It was so dumb. This whole day today has just been completely awful for Mein Leben runs with silly mistakes and dumb deaths galore. I don’t know if I’m just tired but it feels like my skills and focus are regressing rather than improving with each run.

 

Attempt #13 - Died New Orleans 1

 

Missed the jump to the balcony in the warehouse so I retreated to my backup hiding spot to funnel the enemies through. I crouched down and there was a sudden explosion and I was dead. I have no idea if it was a grenade I walked into or there was a nearby explosive tank or something, but I decided I am going to completely change up my strategy in that section to something much safer. I rarely ever miss the jump, and even if I do, my backup plan usually works very well. But still, I don’t want to risk it again as New Orleans 1 should generally always be a very safe and easy level. 

 

Attempt #14 - Died @ Venus

 

I finally made it back to Venus on a stellar run, only to brutally mess up the stealth in the very first room. I don’t know how anybody even fucks up this badly at such silly points in the game. Last time on Venus I misclick dialogue in the audition, now this time I somehow miss a point blank headshot on the 2nd enemy upstairs in the food court area, as well as about 8 panicky follow up shots. They all just zipped right by his head while he stared at me and the alarm meter filled up. Alarm went off and a few mins later I was mauled by a dog making a break for the escape pod. I had completely forgotten about the 2nd dog lurking about. Woops.

 

Attempt #15 - Died @ Oberkommando Elevator

 

Another ridiculous death. My strategy after hopping the railings at the top is always to rush with shotguns all the way to the bomb room and it normally works amazing. However, this time I noticed right away that all the enemies at the top of elevator were out of sequence. This time there was a guy directly in front of me as I hopped the rails, so I quickly opted to duck left and run through the middle of the boxes to avoiding eating a stream of bullets in my back all the way to the door. Instead, I ran directly into the Supersoldat’s chest who was weirdly at that spot and fully blocking the gap between the boxes with his body, and he ruthlessly one-shot me with a melee attack before I even knew what was happening.

 

Attempt #16 - Died @ Final Level

 

Very unlucky death. Killed the Zerstor from the room with the ladder, then peaked around the door to kill the remaining 3 guys rushing the room. First 2 guys go down easily, then I notice a grenade land right at my feet. I’m at a bad angle to throw it back, can’t go up the ladder since it’s at the foot of the ladder, so I hug the back wall and just pray to survive. Managed to survive the blast with 7 HP, but this last goon rushes into the room and somehow survived his own grenade blast despite standing RIGHT ON TOP OF IT as it fuckin explodes, and he just simply picks me off from the doorway. I sat there stunned for a good few minutes after as I Rewatched the footage over and over in disbelief.
 

Note: I realized later on you can actually despawn those last few grunts by climbing directly into the vent ASAP, so thats what I’ll be doing next time.

 

Attempt #17 - Died @ Courthouse, Part 2

 

Literally exact same death as Attempt #4. Dog spawned super late. Waited for him, shot him, but right as I did there was a huge random explosion and I burned to death on the carpet under the desk.

 

Note: Since this has happened twice now, and I’ve seen the dog spawn in late numerous times, I’m going to be entirely revising my strategy at that part, rather than remaining under the desk until the dog is dead.
 

My theory of what happens is that enemies on the balconies will begin chucking diesel grenades at you if you stay under the desk too long. There’s never a grenade prompt, and the explosion clearly happens on the other side of the desk (to your back), but it still knocks you over and the flames reach under the desk and will kill you very fast if you don’t move. This is the only possible explanation I can think of as to why this happens, as there’s no other explosives anywhere in sight.

 

Attempt #18 - Died @ Courthouse, Part 2

 

Cleared upstairs, Supersoldats spawn in. I hear one below me so I peek over the balcony to shoot him in the back as he walks up the ramp (as he always does). Except this time there’s actually 2 of them together and they’re coming from the completely opposite direction at the top of the ramp. Unfortunately they were bunched up together and standing at such a tight angle to the left-hand side wall that they had a direct line of sight on me, whereas I could barely target them. With some difficult aiming I managed to quickly dispatch one, but got a head full of grenades and lasers simultaneously and died very fast despite being fully shielded by the balcony. I’ve never seen that spawn pattern/pathing for the super soldiers in courthouse before, but I’m not that surprised as they do seem a little unpredictable at times.

 

Attempt #19 - Died @ Manhattan Nuclear Bunker

 

2nd time I’ve lost a run to what is supposed to be a short and piss easy section. I was down to the last couple enemies, things went loud, and the bullet drop on my nail guns failed me and I got wasted. In retrospect, I clearly panicked and should have switched to dual storms for the accuracy but wasn’t thinking in the moment. Gotta keep a cool head for Mein leben or shit like this happens.

 

Attempt #20 - Died @ Final Level

 

At the part when you reunite with Anya at the pods, I always use Breadborne’s strategy of just rushing into the room with dual shotguns and mowing down all the enemies from behind before they can react, and it’s always been super effective. But this time my aim was atrocious and I somehow didn’t kill them all. I ended up standing face to face with a single grunt and Supersoldat and despite unloading the shotguns into their faces like a madman they didn’t die. I did. This one really pissed me off and made me realize how unnecessarily risky that strategy is if it goes wrong (as stuff always does on this stupid difficulty) so I won’t be using it again. It’s much, much safer to just funnel them in a line to the back of the room.

 

Attempt #21 - SUCCESS!

 

Finally! Christ. It was an awesome run, everything went very smoothly. The only exception was that during the final boss fight I was so nervous I missed 3 of the 4 laser shots and so I had to improvise and slap a rocket upgrade on the grenade pistol to take the big boys down. It all worked out in the end and i got my revenge on the sweet and lovely beautiful Frau Engel.
 

What a ride this journey was! Had a blast challenging myself to overcome this difficulty, while reading this entire thread and finding inspiration in everyone else’s path. Finally part of the Mein Leben club. ?
