A new ordered review

Recommended Posts

Hello again everyone and am back again with reviewing wolfenstein the new order and I hope you all have been enjoying the past reviews as this one is going to be a somewhat longish one as this game has both good and bad and they are needed to be spoke about more in detail but before we start this remember this is a somewhat light story spoilers for both this game and old blood's ending just letting you know so none of the spoiler caps come a knocking, so with that said let's see if the new order has in store.

So the set up is your BJ blazkowicz the man who took out many Nazis and head leaders in the last games and thanks to the file you got from the head researcher at castle wolfenstein in the last game the us knows the location deathshead compound and are on their way to stop him but due to a few events you fail to take out deathshead and are held down and must pick one of the two men deathshead has gotten to like the eyes and skin of and try and make an escape but while that happens a bit of metal hits the back of BJ's head and makes him become kind of like a vegetable as he is later found by a few locals that take him to a mental hospital as he is left there to watch the years roll by as the Nazis have won the war and are crushing out any of the resistance fighters that want to take back the world. A while later the Nazis would come by to take and kill all the patients there but the head doc tries to stop them and ends up getting killed along with his wife while his daughter is taken away this brakes BJ out of his vegetable like state to find the doc's daughter, free the resistance fighters and bring down the Nazis. That is all I will give away of the story as we get to the real meat of the review that being the good and bad, starting with the good.

The gun play is just like it was in the old blood very meaty and strong feeling guns and with each shot it is very impactful making the enemies fall to the floor or stagger when shot in say the chest or leg and so on makes the guns feel powerful and good to use. The stealth is nearly the same as the old blood but has a few things that make it abit better, in terms of doing take downs are now only done if you press the button shown on the screen unless you have the knife in your hand you can just do fast cuts then slow take downs. There is choice to do in this game there was in the old blood that changes a few things that I won't spoil but it adds to the game another playthrouth and more perks making it have more replay to it, however, there is problems a lot of them and this is where we talk about the bad.

The main problems faced with in this game is that the game likes to throw too many long winded cut scenes and tries too hard to make you care about the other characters in the game, while some are enjoyable to be around, some are just plan boring to be near, one being the daughter of the doc from the start as they kinda just made her so good ol BJ can give her some of his flag pole. The story is nothing to really ride home about and the way they try to shove it down on your face, it is lazily done if you ask me. Another big problem is after each level your weapons are taken away from you and you have to start the next level with what ever the game wants you to start with, so that big sniper rife of yours is going to be gone for the next 4 levels till the games thinks it is time to put it in the level. While a lot of the things I spoken of in terms of problems goes it is to me fair but what is not fair is the glitches. There have been many times where I try to stealth a level to only throw a knife at an enemy to kill them only for me to be unable to pick it back up after killing the enemy with it and crashes after dying near the end of the game itself. But to be fair this might be just me so it won't fully effect the review fully but it is worth noting here in case you end up encountering them glitches, and with that said I think it is time to do a mini recap of what is good and bad of the game before my final thoughts on it.

The good.

  • Guns feel powerful and are fun to use.
  • enemies stagger and react to where you shoot them in different parts of the body.
  • Stealth works for the most part.
  • major choice that adds another playthrough to see the chances.
  • Better perks.
  • Fair difficulty modes.

The bad.

  • Too many characters.
  • Forced characters bonds and love interest.
  • Taking weapons away from the player after each and every level.
  • Gltiches, bugs, crashes.
  • Sticking to cover too much when trying to pop your head out to shoot.
  • Some choices don't do much.
  • Shotgunners are bullet sponges.

Final thought.

I am mixed on the new order, while I like the gameplay a lot and I mean a very lot, what holds it back is the forced story and character bonds and it is fine for other games but for a wolfenstein game that is a big no, no as wolfenstein game is meant to be shoot and kill all Nazis and tell me the story after 5 or so levels that only take 5mins at most, here they stop you to do story time let's stop the killing for about 10 to 15 minutes of story and boring character bonds. To be fair though, most of the problems were fixed in wolfenstein old blood as this game did come first so I can't really hate this a lot but my point here is that my problems still matter as they wanted £50 when it came out new, and no it is not worth £50 as there is not much replay for this game to be worth that much, as you would at most spend about 48 hours or abit more on this game if you wanted to beat everything and do everything but at the price it is now. I say it is worth it but I would not lose sleep on not getting to buy it so soon as the old blood gave more fun factor for action and felt like a wolfenstein game. This one, however, is mix of both the now time story shooters and wolfenstein of old and it still earns it's name as a wolfenstein game but at some points it feels less of it. I give wolfenstein new order a 3.9/5 and I think it is a good game but is very low on feeling like the older wolfenstein games I would recommend this though just not at the full price.

I hope this review helped and if any of you have any feedback just let me know down below as am always looking out to see if there is anything I can make better in my reviews and if you think of a game I already got I could maybe review it if you like my style of reviews.

Next I will review ether wolfensten 2 or something else. hope to see you on the next review.

Nice review, going to play this series along with Doom in the future.

Doom is good the old ones are best to start with and yes people hate on doom 3 a lot but I think giving it a go is good as if you ask me it is a good game just not a good doom game more a horror like fps with a doom skin. Also thanks hope you enjoy the other reviews I do.

Hey Kanerkb,

I have played the original Castle Wolfenstein on the PC (DOS/Windows (3.11)) and on PS3 (PSN Game), along with the 2011(?) game reboot... I have noticed and am disappointed with the forced gun removal at the start of every level; I understand that the guns to be used will be changed every level , I did not expect to be limited to my knife, pistol, and cutter at the start of the level...

I have noticed that the player choice at the end of chapter 1 will determine the timeline in the rest of the game and yet I haven't seen any other storyline impact(s) of that choice as of yet ( On Chapter 11 while writing this response)...   Looking at the available trophies for the title, I noticed that there are no trophies relating to 100% collectible/level completion (in my humble opinion that is a big change from the pre-PS4 titles because it is a way to determine how quick you cleared the level with finding 100% of the loot/secrets....

If you have played the original title where just about every level you had numerous hidden stashes to find, now honestly speaking having destructible objects for health, armor, and ammo is a good thing the one thing that would make it better would be the inclusion of a hidden super cache that contained max ammo, health, and armor and a few big guns.

I hope this helps you with ur review of New World Order... I haven't played Old Blood or New Colossus just yet

Yeah, most of that stuff is already in the review as I did play all of the wolf games aside from 3d completely as I only got to play half way as I never had a pc at the time when I first played it at a friends, while the game has no hidden place of loot or anything it has the gold items like before and are needed to get the plat along with finding all the notes and all that and the secrets are limited yes but there is a few still just not as it was in the old ones. That is something I didn't know as bad or good as it is still there just not as it was before sure but still there is no real reason to need them in this game as they take your guns away as is so they would of been a waste of time sadly.

I thought new order is ok myself just not as great as return to castle wolfenstein, but old blood however has more of the old game feel as hidden places are in the level you just need to find them and was trying to be return to castle wolfenstein. In the end I think this was the only wolfenstein that was ok new colossus to me is just bad and disappointing but that is already in my review list so yeah I don't need to go on about that. But thanks though for replying as I like to see what others think of my work or if they got any bits they think might make the review better.
