How long have you been playing video games?

I started playing computer games since 1987 or 1988 (games consoles are essentially specialised computers for gaming). I don't remember the exact year. I used to play games on the Amstrad computer.

My first Japanese games console was the Sega Master System II.

Close to 30 years. My first exposure was Super Mario Bros 3 on the NES, but it was my sisters so playtime was extremely limited.

It's been since 1992 or 1993. I got my Sega Genesis in 1993, played the Super Nintendo at a relatives house, and had my Nintendo 64 by early 1998.

around 35 years.

Started aged 3, playing Pong and the Pong variants on a console that was over 10 years old, even at that point:

- my granddad was a tech-head through and through, and used to fire this up to play with me when he and my grandma were watching me.

Graduated to the NES via friends later, but didn't get my own console until the SNES - but the seed had been planted long before that.

34 - 35 years for me.

The first game i remember getting into was Kings Quest on PC. It had been out for a couple years before i started playing it.

Remember playing a couple of my older brothers atari games before that but didnt really know what i was doing till i was about 6.

As long as i can remember. My first self owned console was the original Gameboy. It released in Denmark the year i was born. I have fond memories of playing Pokemon Blue (one of the few games i had and wanted to play), i also had Super Mario and Wario land (no trophies or gamerscore back then, but i played that game SOOOO many times through).

I would say i've been gaming for 25+ years, on and off.

Allot of people here are older then I expected. To be honest for me it was Pinball machines before and then we had a space invader arcade cabinet in the local shop. Soon after we had a Pong machine at home. Some really fantastic stories here regardless of time periods.

Nearly the same in my case, even down to Kings Quest(!), though for me it was Kings Quest III. Those games were so great, but were pretty tricky. It's also probably the first game that ever made me rage-quit. :)

27-28 years something like that

I don’t think I had ever seen a console in my life until I came to England to live with my Mother and Stepfather in the early 90s when I was 7-8 years old they happen to have the NES console and it was then that I played my first video game ever I can’t quite recall which but it was either Super Mario Bros or Duck Hunt.

24 years

I started with the NES, and I can remember playing that dual pack Duck Hunt / Mario cartridge with my sister a lot, but we didn't play that often. Eventually, my uncle and aunt introduced me to Diablo when I was 8 and from there I was hooked. I remember nothing about Diablo, but I know I had a lot of fun playing the game with them.

To the best of my hazy recollection, my fascination with games must have begun around 1988, with the Sega Master System and Atari 2600. The first games I ever touched were Phantasy Star, Combat, and Joust.

Gaming since I was about 5-6 years old in the early 80's.

At the time we were more broke than a 2021 day one release (gamer joke.... ba-dom-bom-pssh!) so I never owned any of my own games, apart from the old individual LCD screen games. At school we had a BBC computer but it was nothing to do with the TV station we have in the UK. It was just a school computer and when the teachers were too hung over they used to throw in a massive so called 'floppy disc' and then we could play pong and pattern games.

We carried on being broke and then eventually I was able to get a Spectrum. I missed the original NES era due to it being so friggin expensive, but managed to snag a SEGA Master System 2. From there is was SNES, Amiga and then I think the PS1 era arrived. Throughout all that time though gaming was only a time filler as I was young and very outgoing... we all were really. It wasn't until I got stabbed (for the second time) in my late 20's that my ex just told me to chill and try the video games I used to like. This was the 360 era and games had just grown so much. Since then I haven't been stabbed, the ex is still the ex and I'm enjoying gaming as a hobby more than ever.
