New Year's Contest 2018 - Winners Announced!

Welcome to the third annual New Year's Contest. Like the previous times, let's kick off the new year by attacking the backlog with a contest.

 

General Information

The contest will start on January 1 2018 at 12AM (00.00) and end on January 31 2018 at 11.59PM (23.59). The timezone we'll be using is GMT+1. Here's a countdown timer that shows exactly when the contest will start and another one that shows when the contest will end. The three members who have the most points at the end will win this contest. 

 

The prizes are listed below:

•  1st place: a PSN Card with a value of 10 dollars/euros/1,000 yen.
• 2nd place: a PSN Card with a value of 10 dollars/euros/1,000 yen. 
• 3rd place: a PSN Card with a value of 10 dollars/euros/1,000 yen. 

 

That's right, this year all the prizes are identical. The prizes are provided by @xZoneHunter, @Mah2c, and myself. In the event that there are no PSN Cards available for the winner, we will transfer the money using Paypal. You can sign up for the contest until December 31 2017. At the end of the contest it would be appreciated if participants could provide a list of games they've platted and some feedback about things they like, dislike, or things that should be changed.

 

All the scores have been counted and can be found in this spreadsheet. The winners of the NYC2018 are:

1.  1st place: Zolkovo with 1,604.87 points
2. 2nd place: Matto_Isi with 1,488.76 points
3. 3rd place: Aprilis with 1,100.64 points

Point System

The point system has been overhauled to make things fairer. Participants get points based on the plat rarity, playtime, and the amount of trophies unlocked.

 

Games With a Platinum Trophy

Here's how the score will be calculated: Total score = (100-plat rarity) x playtime multiplier x (points unlocked / total trophy list points for the main game).

 

Plat rarity is based on the PSNP rarity on February 1. The playtime multiplier starts at 1 and increases with 0.1 for every 10 hours. If a game can be completed within 5 hours, the multiplier is reduced to 0.5. The completion times depend on PSNP guides and not on fastest completion times. The amount of trophies unlocked has been added to allow games that have already been started. Though only the trophies that are unlocked after the contest has started will yield points. For this part the trophy values from Sony will be used ( = 15,  = 30,  = 90, and  = 180).

 

So, for example a game with a plat rarity of 10% that takes 50 hours to complete and has a trophy list of 1,230 points with all trophies being unlocked after the event has started would yield (100-10) x 1.5 x (1,230/1,230) = 135 points. In case 615 points have been unlocked since the start of the contest, the points would be: (100-10) x 1.5 x (615/1,230) = 67.5.

 

DLCs

DLCs also count, but only if you obtain the plat too after the contest starts. The playtime is added to the playtime multiplier and the trophy points to the "points unlocked" numerator. Which means the trophy value modifier can increase the amount of points if you plat the game and complete one or more DLCs. Using the example above with 1,230 points: a DLC that takes 10 hours to complete and has 315 points will give the following score: (100-10) x 1.6 x (1,545/1,230) = 180.88 points.

 

Games Without a Platinum Trophy (100% Games)

The scores for these games are calculated almost exactly like games with platinum trophies. The only difference is that the plat rarity stat is replaced by the green checkmark stat that's found on your PSN Profile page between the rank and completion bar. This green number is equivalent to a platinum trophy rarity. Below is an image of the statistic's location:

 

 

Bonus

Persona 5 will reward everyone with double points. If you're planning to play that game, also feel free to sign up for the Let's Play Persona 5 event and grab one of those shiny emblems for platting it.

 

Rules

1. Cheating to unlock trophies will result in an immediate ban (which also includes being banned from any future New Year's Contests).
2. Auto-popping games using cross-saves won't count for points.
3. Persona 5 counts for double points  .
4. Sound Shapes doesn't yield any points.
5. Unlike previous years, games that have already been started will yield points, but only for the trophies that are earned after the contest starts.

For non-plat games the plat rarity part is removed and DLC trophies are added to the numerator part in "(points unlocked / total trophy list points)".

I would like to know that, too. Most of my games I will going for have massive DLC's which will take some time. So I'll invest time to get my *Trophy unlocked Multiplier closer to 1, but at the same time I already have the platinum. I dont know, if the *Gametime Multiplier Counts only for the platinum or for 100% a game, and if that will compensate the time I have to invest in the DLC.

Poor sound shapes :/ i know that there are some trophies that are achieved just having a guide at hand, but the ones for dead mode requires gameplay.

Yeah, Dead Mode requires more luck than skill, but with all the DLCs it would be way too OP.

Cool event and i see you gave some thought into the points system... reaching a Platinum Trophy isn't that difficult anymore in some games ... and even the time amount varies widely...

Yeah, I'm hoping this makes it more rewarding to play longer games.
