jemmie
I know what a lot of you are thinking right now, and stop it. This challenge was a long-time coming, and after several delays and events stewing our rivalry, we'll finally answer the question that's been asked so many times that it's not even funny anymore: "Who would win, Kent or Jem?" Starting midnight EST, January 1st, 2018, we'll be putting our skills to the test, seeing who can get the best collection of plats. Both the rarity and length of the games matter, so spamming easy games won't really get either of us too far. Here are the rules: Spoiler All plats have a base score of one point, and all multipliers are one unless they meet the conditions below. Common plats get a x0.1 rarity multiplier. Very rare plats get a x2 rarity multiplier. Ultra rare plats get a x5 rarity multiplier. If you own over 20% of the trophies in a game before the start date, the plat gets a x0.5 trophy multiplier. If you own over 90% of the trophies in a game before the start date, the plat gets a x0.1 trophy multiplier. If the 50th fastest completion time is at least 50 hours, the plat will get a x2 completion multiplier. For each additional 50 hours, the completion multiplier increases by 1. For example, a 100-hour game has a x3 completion multiplier. This can go up to a cap of x20. If less than 50 people have platted a game, then it automatically gets a x20 completion multiplier. The score for each plat is 1 x rarity multiplier x trophy multiplier x completion multiplier. If someone plats a new game, the plat won't be added until the game is at least a month old. Throughout the event, I'll be constantly updating the scores below so that everyone can see how we're doing. @Kent10201 - Score: 268.65/Plats: 48 Spoiler 1. Andrea
Who are you two kidding with that UR multiplier? I don't think you'll be needing it. Should've included the correct poll option - both of you give up by July.

Wavergray
It is really to close to call, but i'll say Kent will win in a close race. Either way, I hope both of you have fun and play some good games.
DamagingRob
This should be entertaining. I'm inclined to root for Kent, simply for his love of Kingdom Hearts. Just call me Shallow Rob. ;P
Mesopithecus
Good luck to you both and I hope you have some enjoyable experiences throughout the race. I've abstained from voting for now, but maybe at a later point. Edited January 20, 2018 by Mesopithecus

I've honestly heard the phrases "I'm giving up competitions" and "I quit trophy hunting" too many times to throw my support behind this. The rules and scoring seem overly complex for such a simple little race. Good luck to you both though and I hope you at least find some enjoyment in this, as honestly this race is kind of asking for it with the level of banter it's going to receive. I don't see this as a full-on competition but more of a friendly challenge. That being said, this wouldn't be fun if the rules weren't fair, so the two of us came together to make what I'd say is a relatively simple set of rules (well, at least compared to my many convoluted ideas in the past). I fully welcome the initial banter, as we both deserve it to some degree. If we want it to stop, all we have to do is perform, right? 23 minutes ago, Tearraven said: Is this what happens when people in a retirement home decide they want to get back in the action? Normally, no, but we like to take a different approach than most people. 7 minutes ago, Kent10201 said: Good luck Jem! I'm looking forward to a fun year of trophy hunting. Same to you! Jesaya815
My, my! All this negativity around here. What a way to start a new event of epic proportions. Anyway, good luck and have fun, guys. My vote goes to Jem, you got this!
jemmie
Well, the contest started about an hour ago. Happy New Year everyone! To start, I'm prepping three games, Xenoverse 2, Trigger Happy Havoc, and Arcana Heart 3 Love Max. I may play some Dragon Quest Heroes too while I wait for the Team League to get started, but I probably won't plat that for a while.
Kent10201
Happy New Year everyone! To start I'll be playing through Life is Strange: Before the Storm and Resident Evil VII. I'll probably do Nier Automata and the Amnesia Collection after both of those.
Icebrand1270
As long as you guys enjoy your competition, that's all that matters. Good luck to you both. I'm not voting but that's only because I don't know what either of you can do.
AffectatiousDonk
Sounds like trouble in paradise. Hope you both have fun and enjoy whatever games come up over the year. And definitely nothing wrong batting from the retirement village, find your future wife/husband there put in a good 5 years then you will be setup for life.

Sorry Jem but Kent's love of Kingdom Hearts means I gotta support him @Kent10201 has tried several times to convince me to get into Kingdom Hearts. Now, I have slightly more motivation to. So apparently, Dragon Quest Heroes is a lot better than I heard it was. What meant to be just a small taste of the game ended up being three days of nonstop playing to the point where I'm actually getting close to platting the game. Unless something goes horribly wrong, I should have it prepped by my HTC period in the Team League. I haven't forgotten about my original three games of course. I've been working on the LP grind in AH3 Love Max while updating spreadsheets and might finally finish it tonight. In fact, I'll probably do what's left of the prepwork for it tomorrow to avoid Dragon Quest burnout.
jemmie
Love Max is officially prepped! It's times like these where I'm thankful that Kent and I had the foresight to include an UR multiplier. People thought we were crazy, but it sure came in handy pretty early!
HcG Clawz
Voted for Jem because I think he'll be more dedicated to something like this. Good luck to both of you though.
Popular Post Kent10201
My first plat of 2018 and first plat of the race, is Life is Strange Before the Storm. Bring on the Storm Points: 1.0 Difficulty: 1/10 ; Enjoyment: 9/10 Before the Storm is a story that was definitely worth experiencing and I think I may have enjoyed it more than the first game. The relationship between Chloe and Rachel is one of the best I've seen in narrative driven games like the Telltale series and in games in general. Knowing the fate of both characters in the original makes the story even better (and depressing at the same time) but that doesn't take away from the enjoyment. The only bad thing was that collectible mode made you sit through 10 minute long cutscenes which was slightly annoying. Bring on the storm @jem, cause I'll be ready!

Congrats on getting the first plat of the competition (well kinda)! In case anyone's wondering, we're not officially counting this plat until a month after the plat was obtainable. We'll see whether the rarity changes in the meantime. In other news, Dragon Quest Heroes is now officially prepped as well. Xenoverse 2 should be next. All I have left to do is get the awoken skills from the races I didn't use in my main playthrough.

It was a lot better than I expected, but maybe that's just because I really enjoy hack and slash games. The story isn't all that special, but the gameplay is great with many different mechanics that work well together. There's also a wide range of characters, each with different weapons and playstyles, that makes the game feel less repetitive. There's a lot of side stuff to do as well to prevent you from feeling like you're just grinding in the post-game (until the last few hours where you actually have only the grinding left). The final few post-game bosses were kind of annoying to beat, but once I got everyone to max level and got the proper equipment, I was able to manage. They were still challenging, but at least doable.

I really enjoyed the first game and I'm currently halfway through my first playthrough of the second, I'd definitely recommend them. Good to see a positive write up about Dragon Quest Heroes too, I started it last year and never went back to it.
