Popular Post Slava
Evangelion: 3.33 You Can (Not) Redo I expected 3.33 to be worse. Anno definitely picked an interesting direction to advance the story, but I didn't mind it. I'll try not to spoil anything. Not really sure about the exact reason why people don't like this movie too much. If it's because of the change in the setting, then I don't think I share that opinion - I think it's a fine idea for a rebuild. If it's about how characters behave and treat Shinji, I kinda understand it. Their actions and words can be explained by everything that happened off screen. The result is everyone turning away from Shinji and/or choosing not to listen to him. He ends up alone at the worst moment, and we're supposed to be as confused as he is. We don't spend a lot of time with these secondary characters and don't know what's happening in their head by design. The entire narrative is centered around Shinji's point of view, and you see where this leads him. Hovewer, there's a downside to this. There are so many characters, and we don't learn much about them. Especially about Mari, who was introduced in the previous movie. Aesthetics-wise, rebuilds kind of reinvent themselves in this movie. Pretty dark, a lot of apocalyptic-red shots, tons of 3D models of weird looking monsters, robots, ships, mechanisms. None of that was in the original show. The animation is beautiful as always, but the trend of CGI prolifirates further. Even more action scenes are fully computer-animated. They look pretty good, although I have to say, both CGI and traditionally drawn battle scenes looked a little more boring this time. Compared to the action scenes from 2.22, the new ones felt less powerful, less exciting. Even though a number of new ideas were introduced to spice things up. In the end, 3.33 wasn't dissapointing. It's not as strong as the previous two rebuilds, but I still had a good time with the story. If you can even say such a thing about a movie where the main character suffers from being alone half of the movie, and it's not even the bad part. Very glad I didn't have to wait 9 years for the next part ?. Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time I'm still collecting my thoughts and impressions after watching the final movie. There's a lot to say about it. I'll probably watch it again. But I'll say right away, this was a satisfying conclusion for me, although I can't call it a perfect 10/10 movie. My favourite part was the first hour. The slow beginning was filled with quiet and tranquil scenes with insanely gorgeous views in the background. You get to exist with these characters and look at the world at a different angle. I felt this was needed before characters were sent to their final mission. Unlike 3.33, this time many characters got their screen time, even some you may have forgotten about. Each of the main characters got a resolution to their small story arc. Also, this was first time in the entirety of Eva when we got to dive into Gendo's mind. I didn't think that conflict with Gendo had the most satisfying outcome, but it's something. The animation is stunning most of the time. The beginning has gorgeous backgrounds, the characters look amazing, the battle scenes are exciting and over the top. But sometimes action goes so hard that it's tough to catch everything for a combination of reasons. In many scenes, there are tons of 3D CGI objects, and they are rendered at half the framerate, which is fine by itself. But when the camera spins at the speed of a tornado, the CGI framerate coupled with minimal motion blur makes action scene a little messy. That said, the battles still blow you brains out. You're looking at the giant machinegun go BRRR and giant laser go ZOOOM in mid-air destroying enemies while some crazy stuff is happening in the background. To compare, the Paris scene alone felt more inventive to me than most of 3.33. In terms of lore and technical questions, 3.0+1.0 answers a lot of them, but not all. A lot of new rules are introduced in the rebuilds in general, but It feels like writers are not doing a good job of explaining them, even though they spend more time trying compared to the original anime. It's still like that in Thrice Upon A Time. Even if you understood the rules of how the Eva world works in the original show and EOE, some details won't make sense here. At some point, I decided for myself that the answer to all the confusing parts is "Don't worry about it". In the end, Eva is not about angels and spears, it's about the characters, and this movie delivers where it matters. All in all, I enjoyed the rebuilds. What a journey. I still prefer the show and EOE over them, but they're hard to top of course. I'm glad the world of Eva got expanded and we at the very least got to see giant biorobots fight one more time. Eva is cool. Watch it. Edited August 14, 2022 by Slava
thepeaguy83
I finished watching Baki Hanma. It's a good Jap cartoon show on Netflix. Less of the cutie crap.
Popular Post MrGarland
Build Divide: Code #000000 Episode 1-3 It's too early to say anything about this one, as I find the rules rather confusing. Still, I enjoy the card matches, but I hope that it's just not going to be Teruto vs the opponent all the time. That would be boring. I do have to give one thing an honorable mention. The OP song is absolutely catchy. Puraore! Pride of Orange Episode 1-3 Ever since I read the news about this, I've been anticipating this a lot. Besides, it's the first of its kind, so all the more reason for me to be hyped. Not too much action so far, but hopefully there will be soon. Komi Can't Communicate Episode 1 Need I even say anything about this? Easily one of the highlights of this season. After watching the first episode, I can say that I'm hyped about it. It's also nice to see that Netflix is doing a weekly simulcast, instead of adding all the episodes in one go.

SelectiveGamer
Not sure why no one is posting in this anymore... but I found something new so I'm posting/double posting. Sorry? Anyway... I started watching Ranking of Kings. I heard a lot about this one and the simuldub started so I gave it a watch. Cutesy honestly. Pretty good too. Animation style gives me Ni No Kuni vibes. Prince is deaf and hard of hearing and I actually used to work for a relay call center where I did relay calls for deaf and hard of hearing people. Stuff like that just makes you root for them even more I think. So hearing too much about animes can sometimes lead to good things lol.
sillyrobo75
Currently watching the 1st season of K-on, a slice of life anime with a music theme, the music does take a backseat here however, but I am fine with that since this is quite a relaxing anime, and that is the main reason why I started this. I think that because this is a KyoAni produced anime I did not watch it sooner, I just associate them with drama intense anime, even if clearly they have done plenty of other stuff too.

MrGarland
Girls und Panzer der Film Enjoyment: 10/10 Today has been both the good and slightly sad day. The good thing is that I've managed to get a PS5, thanks to my younger brother. The sad thing is that today is the last day to watch this from Netflix. At the moment of writing this, there's only few hours left before it leaves the catalogue. As a result, I'm going to watch it one last time before it's gone for good. Also, it's been a while since I last watched so I might as well do so. After that, watching it from Blu-ray is the only option for me. Shame it doesn't have the option to watch it on my native language, unlike the one in Netflix. At least the TV series is still there, even though it also leaves in December, but more about that later. Anyway, I think I've mentioned this once, but I might as well say it one more time. Some might say that they repeated the same plot from the TV series. That may be more or less true, but who cares about that when the match for the fate of the Oorai girls is done so well you can't but enjoy it. The ED theme crowns the experience. Simply put, it's a masterpiece for a fan like me. Edited November 24, 2021 by MrGarland
