Popular Post Hemiak
Started game 4 two nights ago , The Witcher 3. Only got about an hour a night so I won't review yet, but the game looks amazing and the voice acting is really good so far. Race Game 3 - Furi 8ish hours played, 27/34 trophies. Well I've entered the home stretch with the race with a solid lead. I've had a good amount of time with Furi now. I've been able to clear my first run on Furi(standard) difficulty. It took 4 hrs to clear my first run, I was KO'd 32 times, killed 9, and I took 900+ hits. I then did a little practice on two bosses and some trophy cleanup, then tackled the speedrun. Speedrun mode removes all the cut scenes and walking between bosses, allowing you to just fight the enemies back to back. I cleared that with 11 KOs, only one game over, 317 hits, in 1:21:xx. Needed 1:29 to get both trophies. Then I cleaned up two more battle trophies and started a new story playthrough to get an S rank. So what is Furi? It's a 3rd person hybrid hack n slash / bullet hell boss rush. You start out in a prison torture chamber being mocked by your jailer 'The Chain'. When he walks out the door an improbable hero shows up to set you free. He's a dude with a giant purple rabbit helmet on and purple leggings carrying what looks like a microphone on a stand. He gives you a little pep talk and tells you "The jailer is the key, kill him and be free." This phrase is repeated before almost every boss you fight. You head up the short ramp and the fight begins. This is pretty much the entire game. You fight a boss, The Voice (rabbit man) shows up, congratulates you, and sends you on your way. You walk to the next boss, and fight again. You can control the walking yourself but the constantly shifting camera angle and perspective make that both slower and more irritating. You can just press X and your character will walk the shortest path on his own. Along the way The Voice will continually teleports ahead of you and offers information about your situation and the upcoming boss's character and motivations. Apparently he's a prisoner here as well, and needs you to help him escape. Not going to lie, I had this guy pegged as evil from the start and thought he might be one of the later/last bosses. I won't spoil that though. Your character has a fixed hp bar, with no way to increase it. Under your bar are 3 small squares that represent your retries. Getting KO'd will prompt a scene, then you'll stand up with full hp, ready to rock. This also fully resets the boss to full hp and the beginning of their phase. Beating a phase of a boss refills your hp, and grants one extra retry if you have already used one. This was very handy on my first run. I would fight, lose a phase but learn the attacks, and win the next round, getting my retry back. Then we'd move to the next phase and repeat. You only lose if you get KO'd ok your last try. Combat is fluid, and the controls are tight. Square smacks things with your sword, in a 4 hit combo. Or you can hold square to charge up a dash attack, but it's harder to find openings to land this. Pressing towards an enemy with right stick fires your automatic laser pistol. Holding R2 charges up a big laser shot. It takes about 2 seconds to fully charge for max damage, but releasing early will still shoot a smaller shot. The charge shot can also be used to clear enemy projectiles. Hitting X or either L button dodges, and holding one for a short time charges it up so you can dodge farther, which can be really helpful at times. Circle parries enemy attacks. This is mainly used for melee, but can also reflect some enemy projectiles back at them. If you time your parry well you get some hp back, and your armor glows with green neon. Perfectly parrying certain attacks will open enemies up for an immediate punishment attack. Most enemy attacks come in the form of 1-4 hit combos, with varied timing. Some enemies have much longer attacks. 6, 8, and even 15 hits are possible from certain bosses at certain stages. Each boss has a number of phases, visible as little squares under their hp bar. Each stage brings new attacks and patterns. One interesting thing is that some boss phases have two hp bars. It starts blue, and once you empty it you get a prompt, in the form of an orange circle around the boss. Hitting them initiates a 2nd part of the phase, where you are confined to a small melee circle with the boss. During these duels you cannot use your guns, but can charge your sword by holding the right stick any direction. Fully charging your sword and then landing an attack, without being hit first, does massive damage. I won't cover them all but I'll talk a little about the bosses. They are all different, and vulnerable to different types of attacks. The first boss acts as a tutorial, he's slow and each phase pretty much does one or two attacks and is only vulnerable to one attack. His last two phases are a Mish mash of the first 4 and its up to you to use what you learned. The 2nd boss is a prisoner like yourself, kind of. They locked her up in this huge multi layered revolving room and tied her hands behind her back. However they left her helmet, which functions as a laser. Her legs are also clamped together... But they are attached to a little platform with a motorcycle wheel. They also left her light scythe attached to the back so she can easily pull it out when she frees her hands. O.o Just why? If they confined her feet why give her the wheel and leave the scythe? If she already had the wheel WHY NOT TAKE THE SCYTHE?!?! Ahem, either way, as annoying as she is she isn't all that hard. The third boss is an old skinny dude with a huge beard and head of white hair I've nicknamed Afro Ghandi. He can stop time and uses mind bullets to mess with you. Other guys include a Knight with a shield, a wierd dude with a diving helmet, and a samurai guy who has trained for hundreds of years to be the best. Each has their own reasons for fighting you, but fight they will, except for one who tries to talk you into staying with her for an optional ending. Even she will fight you if you scorn her offer... Women amirite? All in all I'm having an absolute blast with this game. The fast paced combat feels great, bosses are challenging but not unfair, the visuals are amazing, and the sound track is awesome. Would definitely recommend this to people who like a challenge, or hack n slash games in general. The platinum is tough but not impossible. The speedrun is plenty lenient, I got it first attempt and I'd only fought most of the bosses once. The S ranks can be save scummmed if you need, so it just becomes a matter of persistence and getting better. Also, you can play the entire game on the easiest setting at first, and the game won't give you any trophies. So if you don't like it you can try it out and walk away with no impact.

And when you said Ghost Recon Wildlands is Far Cry 5, it sold me! I used to watch a lot of documentaries, but I stopped keeping up with them more and more over the years. I think the last documentary I watched was probably Zeitgeist, which was also very good. The VIetnam War documentary was great, because it was the most genuine in it's complexity and approach that I've seen so far. No glorification of patriotism, like in so many other pictures. It was as factual and informative as possible, which is what a documentary should be. Well, Ghost Recon Wildlands sure feels a lot like Far Cry to me. Take over outpost in a tropical mountain area, gather materials/flowers, a map clustered with icons. I mean it basically could be almost any other Ubisoft game to be fair. The main differences so far are that you can fly planes and helicopters, you can't die on an elephant though. Oh and you have to babysit your 3 team mates that are completely inept. Although I guess technically you can eliminate the latter issue by playing online with others. Edited March 22, 2018 by voodoo_eyes

The forts around Valletta look incredible and it fits my travel schedule of "history in the morning, beaches in the afternoon to appease my wife" travel mantra. I loved Malta, it's my favourite island of Europe (though it cheats by having a short boat trip to Gozo). It's nice and small so you can do a lot of different stuff and see most of the island in a week or two. It's got a good climate, relaxed people and lots of history. If you end op going, tell me, I'll have a recommendation or two for stuff to see/do and where to eat.

One of the things I noticed was that now the menu rings shows which character ring you're viewing, removing a rant I had earlier about having trouble equipping weapons to multiple characters. Also, while damage delay still exists for consecutive hits, the damage delay is gone from the initial hit, making the game a little more bearable. In the original version the character you were on was in the middle of the ring. Did they change that?

Still have the up and down to swap rings for that character like in the original. One thing that was really annoying in this version is if the character is attacking or being attacked, you can't bring up their ring. Very annoying if the AI decides to attack when you want to do magic. Not sure if CJ just didn't notice it or if it was fixed in an update and he just downloaded that (PS4 downloads them automatically, Vita requires you to manually check so it's way easier to miss the update on Vita). Sometimes my PS4 won't start the download automatically Oh you can still pause, but like if the sprite is attacking and you want to use magic and you try to open their ring, you can't swap to it, it brings up the girl's and doesn't allow swapping other than to the boy. So you then have to cancel out and wait for it to finish and try again. Because of this, it's very useful to put your most used spells on hotkeys since it will just make a sound indicating you can't cast but you can keep pressing until it lets you. Hmm, maybe it's a settings thing then? I know I always have to check for updates on my Vita, it doesn't download them automatically. On my PS4 I popped in the disc and it popped up a message about downloading the update and all my PS4 games with updates have done that. All two of them, since my PS4 is still pretty new and Secret of Mana was only the 4th game I've played on it.
Metal Slime King
Well I swapped in Bombing Busters for my next game, I figured since it's still available from ps+ reviewing that would be more of a valuable service and more importantly I felt like playing a crappy Bomberman rip off. In that regard this game delivers! Powered by Unity? Of course it is. "You think anyone will notice if we rip off the Tetris theme?" Well if the whole game is a rip off why stop at the music. Indeed. Well the games they ripped off were fun so all they had to do was not rip out the fun and the price was right. Spoilers: This game sucks hard and I would not recommend downloading it, even for free. Popular Post jasondm300
Game 7 redux is ready to review, and I'll throw in game 8 because I didn't actually plan on finishing it, but I did Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception 12/44 Trophies D Ranking 3 hours Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception is a hybrid Visual Novel and Tactics RPG. You play as Haku, an amnesiac who is saved a cat(?) girl Kuon after almost being killed by a giant mantis type insect and then almost dissolved by a giant red blob. You make your way to a small village, where you meet Ukon and his group of booze loving mercenaries. They are waiting for cargo to bring back to the capital city. While waiting, you take an oddjob to slay some small mantis cretures, only to be ambushed by another giant one, who kills half of his party. Through some cunning and a small battle, you prevail. As far as VN's go, I am really digging this one. The characters were almost immediately likable to me, unlike a lot of other ones I have played where there is a build-up and eventually the characters warm up to me. The tactics battle are really nothing special. They do not have the intricacies of, say, Final Fantasy Tactics or Disgaea, but they do break up the novel sections. That type of dichotomy is a great thing in my book, very similar to why the Zero Escape series is my favorite VNs. I am really looking forward to finishing this off in the future and will have to pick up the sequel as well, as I hear it is pretty much part 2 of the story Super Star Wars 12/12 Trophies S Ranking 5-6 hours This is a re-release of the 1992 Super Nintendo game. It follows the original movie. If you need more plot development on that, then I really can't help you, as I am guessing that most people here have seen an over 40 year old movie that is still considered one of the greatest sci-fi films of all time. There are a few liberties in the story, such as some of the bosses that are definitely not in the movies, but it goes from Tatooine to Mos Eisley to the Death Star and then the trench battle to shoot your photon torpedoes. It is a pretty standard 2D run and gun with the playable characters of Luke, Han and Chewie. I played almost all the levels as Chewie as he has the most health. If it wasn't for save scumming, it would have been a much longer trek to 100% this game, due to having to beat the game on 1 life on the hardest difficulty. Mos tof the levels were pretty good, but the Cantina boss and the final X-Wing trench battle were terrible. It was still fun to go and play this game after about 2 decades since I played it last
Popular Post CJ_Mystery
Game 5, Day 5 Trophy Completion: 17% (12 trophies) Welp, experienced my first crashes of the game. The first one happened as I was entering the Water Palace to fight Jabberwock - thought I could grind on the Iffishes in the entrance and then my Vita froze. I couldn't even turn it off and had to consult a guide to reset my Vita. Then, halfway through my play session today, I got the usual crash. I am glad they decided to auto-save after every screen but they should have beta-tested it more before putting it out instead of having to rely on this cheap fix. On the other hand, I spent all morning and missed lunch playing this game. I got crazy addicted as I was getting orbs and new magic. I am not at the point where I got Salamando and defeated SEVEN bosses. Got out of the first area and cleared Upper Lands and got to the Ice Country and got the fire spirit so now I have four types of magic. The time I wasted was spent grinding weapons, including a Level 8 Spear. Why did I have a Level 8 Spear? Well, there is a sort of a glitch in the game where if you open a chest that is set and exit the room before it fully opens(you have to make the alert appear but not get frozen a second afterwards) the chest resets. After you beat Wall Face and talk to the king of Pandora, you can find six chests in his bedroom. Two of those contain a Spear Orb and a Sword Orb. If you grab one of those chests and do the glitch, you can get up to Level 7 in Sword or Spear. Then you can get the Mana Sword or ultimate lance from two Spear Orbs you get later in the game. I did not do this with the sword because if you get the Mana Sword, you can never unequip it because it's a spoiler weapon, so I did it with the spear and breezed to the current spot.

Popular Post voodoo_eyes
Game #4 - Day #6 - Final Impression Time played: about 6 hours Trophies earned: 7/58 I'm gonna wrap this one up as I'm not going to play more of it on the final day. Apart from taking forever to install, the load times are also quite hefty. To be fair the map is huge, so it is kind of understandable, as there are no load times when crossing over to other sectors. The fast travel option helps with hopping to the side missions, and you'll be doing that a lot. Even though they technically aren't mandatory, you'll need to do them if you want to have enough supplies to upgrade your skills on a regular basis. The main missions have been fairly generic up to this point. Boiling down to entering outpost, killing everything and interrogating/killing the leader. So far I only cleared one sector, so I'm hoping that it'll get a bit more creative down the line. The various skills could potentially make the game more interesting, but it seems like it'll take a long time to unlock most of them. The game looks good for the most part and the driving is great. At least the game looks good and he driving is great. What's not so great is that your team members are completely daft. I've had them walk straight into enemy fire, walking into the line of sight of enemies when I'm trying for a stealthy approach, and they can't enter buildings / car doors to save their lives. The "tactical" part of the game is pretty poor as well. All you can order your team mates to do is, regroup at your position, stay behind, do a sync shot to take out several enemies at the same time and tell them "to go". It also looks like you can't give them individual orders. To be honest, I'm not sure how to rate this one. I did have fun playing it, but the gameplay is kind of monotonous. Guess that's been a theme with the games I picked, All of them have the potential to become incredibly dull. To compromise I guess I'll give two ratings. If played for a couple of hours it's a , any longer and it's a . PS: Still grinding contracts in Agents of Mayhem. Already completed 22, but still not trophy. By now I'm actually nearing the end of the game and have all my characters at at least level 16.

I'd recommend doing that with the axe and gloves since you need two orbs in the mana fortress to max those out if you don't abuse the glitch. Those two were an incredible pain in the butt because the enemies you have to farm for them seemed to rarely drop chests as well. That will make it much easier for you to finish the guide and get all the weapons then. And an update for me, seems I ran into a bit of a snag and The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2 isn't shipping until Monday, which means at the soonest I'm getting it on Wednesday. Don't think that is enough of a delay that I'm going to run with my backup. I'll just deal with less time for that one and play Tokyo Xanadu for a couple of extra days. Hadn't actually had a chance to start Tokyo Xanadu yet, so that works out decently enough. But since I finished my other two PS4 games, I can easily keep playing The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2 once the event is over.

Popular Post Kevvik
Okay, been offline and RL overload for a few days but we'll play some catch up. No new play time at all on Amnesia so nothing to add there other than I will definitely be returning to it. Game #8: Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae Initial Impressions Time played: 1hr 10 min This is a hack-n-slash which plays like an arcade game. You play a schoolgirl-outfit wearing teen(?) who wields a sword. You beat up demons which look like guys in suits or armor or huge humanoids who also carry swords of different sizes. There is also an old friend of yours (blonde teen in short skirt also) who killed your master and has an evil sword. Not sure why the demons are around or why anything else is going on (plot is not really addressed). Just beat up waves of demons then kill the level boss. Rinse and repeat. You can get extra moves with SP obtained from kills. You can also upgrade them and your health and katana (read mana) bars. You can block, counter and flourish (sort of an overpowered counter). This would be more interesting if the game wasn't just a button mashing snorefest. The graphics are serviceable but the soundtrack seems to be nonexistent except for you making attack noises every time you swing your sword. You can make the demons bleed (a red aura surrounds them) and kill them with a move which nukes the bleed sucking out their life energy. This sounds cooler than it is. My hour of play has been broken in 4 sessions due to RL restrictions and just plain lack of enjoyment. I might putter with this here and there but platting it might not be in the plans as you have to play through it 5 times as difficulty trophies don't stack. Overall, this is not a bad game so much as a really boring one. Trophies earned: 19/34, 35% for C rank Score so far: 3/10
Popular Post CJ_Mystery
Game 5, Final Day Trophy Completion: 21% (14 trophies) Profile Completion: 89.28% > 87.94% (+1.34%) Yeah, I'm really raping my completion. So I finally got to the halfway point, mainly the Empire, after restoring the Fire Mana Seed and beating two more bosses. Explored a little bit into the second dark temple and managed to get the final Spear Orb, so now I have a fully upgraded Daedulus Lance! Well then, my review... Pros: It's a decent remake of the original game and the short 3D cutscenes scattered here and there make for a visual experience. The inn dialogues between the trio were funny(like the last one I saw, where the Sprite admitted he charged his grandfather for a rare herb! ) and flesh out the three characters a bit more. If Square-Enix had done this sort of banter between Terra, Aqua and Ventus in Birth by Sleep, I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't bash the game's main protagonists for being wooden. Cons: They removed the cannon flight cutscenes, but then again it makes sense so Mode 7 isn't built into the PS Vita. They also didn't beta-test the combat animations because the game froze my Vita AGAIN while I was training in the Great Forest on the way to Matango(I was training my magic at the Wind Shrine, I will be grateful once I get the Wind Drum and can use Flammie!) so I had to rush through enemies to get back to Kakkara Desert. But then again, it's probably because I copped out and bought the Vita version instead of the superior PS4 version that the game froze twice. If anyone wants to give horror stories about the PS4 version freezing their console and requiring a hard reboot, let me know! I like how the game has an auto-save so you only lose a tiny bit of progress but they shouldn't have to rely on such a quick fix for a game that has these issues. Stats: Everyone is Level 36 now, and both the Girl and Sprite have all four elemental magics(Undine, Gnome, Sylphid and Salmando) at Level 4. Everyone has all weapons at Level 3 and are a few at Level 4, while Boy has trained in the spear up to Level 8, Girl is at Level 7 in the Spear, and Sprite is lagging behind at Level 6. Will I Enjoy Going for the Plat? Pretty much. It's made me a bit nostalgic as Secret of Mana was one of my favorite SNES games, and other than the lazy trophy names, I do like the platinum icon. Is it a good Nintendo-Playstation port? No, not really. I agree with others that if you have the money to buy this game, you should spend it on the SNES Classic mini and play the original on that first. The two games are somewhat equal, the remake slightly less because of the issues. And if you hate the voice acting, turn it off like I did and pretend it's the original. Tomorrow will be my last game, Dark Cloud 2, and I'll play it until the end of the event, even though it's a week and not six days, since March has 31 days. Gold Tower and Emperor's Castle for the Axe Orb, Ice Palace and Dark Palace for the Glove Orb. Trust me on this, most people who were complaining about farming in this game were having a lot of trouble with the second axe or glove orb. Even using the glitch for just one extra of these so you only have to farm for one likely will save you hours. The farming wouldn't be half as bad if there wasn't a chance of you losing a rare drop because the game froze before you could leave the room. Had that happen myself. I'm at the temple where you fight the second wall boss so when I pick the game back up in around May to revive my completion(like I am murdering it ) I'll know where to go. And yes, I did mention the game freezing on me twice. When the game freezes so badly that you have to do a cold reboot of your system, it shows that the programmers needed to be replaced. I did accidentally stumble upon a chest with the Bow Orb in the temple where you fight Doom Face, but I didn't realize it until the chest fully opened so I failed to do the glitch there. Meh, c'est la vie.

Meh, c'est la vie. This might also help you later on since it lists all the items and where to get them and that includes the weapon orbs. And what you said about the freezes on Vita makes me kinda glad I was pretty much forced to get the PS4 version due to me preferring physical copies and no physical copy for Vita. The freezes are annoying on PS4, but they just boot you out of the game and you can start right back up. But I lost a rare spear orb drop from freezes and it took me a long time to get another. And I wouldn't say it was so much the programmers need to be replaced, but the QA team definitely does. This game never should have made it out of QA with so many glaring bugs still present. And I think we're all going to need some completion revival time, though at least my completion wasn't too badly murdered yet thanks to finishing 3 of my games. The first time I did this event I lost a ton of completion
Popular Post MidnightDragon
Time for game review #4: I didn't play much more than the minimum time allowed because I could never really figure this game out. I didn't even get any trophies. It's disappointing because I really thought this game looked and sounded fun. However, it was very confusing to me. The game had tutorials, but didn't think it explained things very well. It's possible that was intentional and I certainly don't mind games where you have to think for yourself, but at the same time, a little guidance would've been helpful. I did like how navigating the river on a raft was a bit difficult...wrecked my raft more than once in the rapids. The art style is also creepy. The main character looks like a walking corpse. Still, considering you're stranded somewhere in the wilderness and trying to survive, it does feel fitting. You have a cute dog with a backpack. Knowing most games, wouldn't be surprised if the dog dies near the end of the game or something like that. If you like survival games, you probably would like this. I do enjoy some survival games, but this one just kind of made me feel annoyed and confused.

But then again, I did just get through 90% of Claire: Extended Cut and platinumed a couple of games so that could have contributed to it. If I really wanted to kill my completion, I could just earn a trophy on the two ecchi-shounen games I bought in a moment of weakness (it's just Gal*Gun Double Peace and Criminal Girls: Invite Only ). I lost over 10% in the first event. Right now I'm sitting at just under 2% lost, probably will be more like 3% before the event ends.
