When does the game get good?

Finished volume 1, thought it was very repetitive, lots of non stop logging in out just to look at stupid emails. 

Not much seemed to happen in the story, wasn't very fond of the battle system, found most of the characters annoying. 

I appreciate the effort it must of took to create this pretend online world I suppose but that's about it.

This was a childhood game series to me and upon playing Volume 1 again on PS4, it did feel very dated and unapproachable. But I'm sure that it does pick up and get much better later in the Volumes, so just try your best to continue on.

The series improves a lot in Vol. 2 (basically once you unlock your 3rd form). I recently put over 90+ hours into it for the plat & enjoyed every minute of it.

just got the platinum, i think it's a really bad game:
1) not fun to play, it's mainly an X button rapid tap until thge "using skill time";
2) i don't like the story and characters;
3) the same area and dungeon for 3 game plus the "extra" vol 4, with reskinned enemies and a few new ones;
 

it's an easy plat to get, and not too long compared to other jrpg.
