Good PS4 games with awful trophy sets.

I'd say Stardew Valley, and it' only really about the Fector's Challenge trophy (actually two related trophies), the game is super fun and super chil and, all of a sudden, boom - there's this very sweaty challenge that makes you want to break your controller into pieces, not cool. There are quite a few RNG trophies, but I don't mind them actually.

I don't. TLOU and its trophy list is what got me into trophy hunting.

Not a outstanding game, but a nice game that the trophy list makes unbearable is WRC 6. You need to complete the game with 1000 stages (races) completed and with 5000Km run in total. The problem is that you finish all the other trophies with only about 350 stages and 1500Km completed. To add salt to the injury, there is a online component that takes AT LEAST 70 stages to complete with a boosting partner, taking about 4 to 5 hours of boosting, that DON'T count on the previous mentioned requirements. If it's not enough, the shortest kind of stages ALSO don't count to the 1000 stages completed. I needed do boost about 20h the same 2 minute stage to get these last two trophies, really fun times.

And of course they ripped the same trophy list to the next years edition, WRC 7.

I don't think this is a good game, but I want to call it out for having a bullshit trophy list.

Dragon Ball: Xenoverse 1.

In Xenoverse you have to unlock every skill in the game if you want the platinum. In order to get skills, you have to defeat bosses in  missions. Some special bosses require you to finish the mission with all conditions complete, like finish in less then 5 minutes. it takes 3-10 minutes to finish a mission. once you complete that mission a special boss has a Chance to spawn. If the boss spawn's and you kill it, the boss has a Chance to drop the skill you want.

It's randomness on top of randomness. Every skill in the game is a random drop. There are 53 mission's and almost all of them have skills you need, You have to play each and every mission over and over and over, 3-10 minutes per attempt, until not only the boss shows up, but he drops the skill you need.  I've never played a game, that I know of, that has RNG on top of RNG and it's one of the most unpleasent feelings I've had playing a video game since being stunlock killed by Rogues in World of Warcraft PVP.

I quit going for the platinum after maybe 10 hours of skill farming. Life is too short to be dealing with this bullshit.

Pretty much every JRPG is on the list since most of them require either multiple playthroughs or long amounts grinding. Personally, grinding doesn't bother me and I find it fun but I know there are people that can't stand the prospect of it.

Not much for completing the story lines and leveling up, but for the miscellaneous trophies. They aren't clear of what you have to do such as "Explore Nimbus". I remember the Risa trophy had me so confused because I explored the entire island but didn't get the trophy because it has to be done in a specific way.

Dude, everyone fucking hates TLOU trophies, end of story. your elitist view on it doesnt mean anything, while you found 2-3 people to back you up i have the whole trophy hunting community behind me to back me up, hell even Colin and Greg said it was a shit show of a trophy list and Brian from PS4 Trophies praised HZD's trophy list for being short but smart and really well crafted, if you want sink 200+ hours into a game it should be fun to stay in that universe for 200+ hours, TLOU to you is fun playing 2+ times. To me its fun playing 2 times only, if they added a second playthrough of the game as a trophy i would've been ok with it, but they wanted to have their cake and fuck it too, 2 journeys of multiplayer, god knows how many single player playthroughs you need and a full fucking DLC list not to mention all the missable bullshit, fuck TLOU's trophy list.

"Dude, everyone fucking hates TLOU trophies, end of story." What a nice humble way to present an opinion. I couldn't care less what you, Colin or Greg said. Stop acting like its some kind of meta. Learn to accept other people's opinions or life hits you hard.

Anyway for me it's Overwatch. Mostly because I don't play it enough (not at all) and many of its trophies are situational/luck based.

This will be an unpopular opinion but I actually wish Burnout Paradise (both versions) had a much harder/challenging trophy list. Or at least the same as the xbox achievements. Trophies basically sh*t out of this game, which is a shame because it's probably still one of my all time favourites and I still play it to absolute completion both offline and online with or without the trophies.

So yeah imo bad lists aren't only about grindy or difficult lists, but also ones that are too easy at times and leave you potentially missing out on a lot of content if you're someone who likes to rush through the plats.

I agree with that I wish it was harder or at least requires you to do everything

It's been interesting reading through this list so far i agree with any of the Kingdom Hearts games after the first but for me i'd say the trophies list for Guitar Hero: LIVE

They just suck strum 1,000,000 times, rack up 100,000,000 point on GHTV??? i've played the game back to front multiple times and still hasn't popped I've been playing these games since Guitar Hero 2 and everything else along the way even the DJ Hero Plat was easier than this!!

Additionally, Dragon Quest Heroes II [is] hurt by dumb grinds.

I actually liked the grind in that game, because at least I was working towards something. Getting party powers isn't that exciting, but getting top proficiency with each weapon really does develop your character (particularly if you spread them out over your party members), and really helps in the optional battles against the Dragon Lord. I will admit that hunting down the "wanted" version of each monster is less rewarding, although getting all the drops does help build great accessories (which is again a must if you're going to solo the big bosses).

You could care less, or you couldn't care less? ?

I agree with your sentiment, though. It's kind of dumb to say that everyone hates TLOU trophies...to someone who clearly does not hate them.

This might be a controversial one in terms of it being a good PS4 game or not, but I'll say No Man's Sky. Lazy and boring trophy list that doesn't even encourage you to finish the story. Got a little better with the Pathfinder update, but still.

Also, that Galapagos trophy has got to be one of the worst ideas a human being has ever had.

I haven't played them, but i imagine The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited (mainly the Emperor trophy) and Battlefield: Hardline (the 40k kills) are both being avoided because of their trophy list.

I can confirm, ESO is a total pita (Imho it's one of the longest grinds I've done to date when getting trophies). Though it's honestly one of my favorite MMOs to date.

Not sure I have any one specific game that I strongly disliked their "entire" trophy set. Though I'm definitely against extremely long grinds, most multiplayer trophies, and having to do repeated runs if they game doesn't change dialogue or something from one run to the next to keep it interesting. Such as COD BO3's "Personal Decorator" and yeah, ESO's "Emperor" trophy lol.

Deus Ex - Mankind Divided. So great plot, really. Very clever, social themes inside modern game is really rare nowadays. But... so many missables

This, is exactly what I found off-putting about the trophy list. I think I've said it before in a different thread (or maybe more than one) but collectible trophies are the ones I'm getting most tired of. Especially when they're missable.

One game that comes to my mind is Call of Duty: Black OPS IIIAll because of this one particular trophy: 21Sc2d5f3.png Personal Decorator. This trophy tasks you with doing multiple things throughout the campaign. Below are a few that'll drive some people (like myself) insane:

  • Complete the Campaign on the Realistic difficulty setting.
  • Complete every mission in the game at least once on Veteran without restarting from a checkpoint.
  • Complete all Accolades for all Missions.

I'm all for a good challenge, but my goodness this game goes overboard with it I think...

1. Final Fantasy IX - The trophies really only cater to hardcore players who REALLY like trophies. Do they realize how many 10,000 enemies is? Or how speedruns spoil people's opinions on games

It's weird that Final Fantasy VII had a fairly easy trophy list (assuming you used the emulator built-in mechanics), but Final Fantasy IX's list is, from what I heard, VERY grindy. I just started playing it recently.

You have to play a LOT of Tetra Master and hit level 99 and you have to do two playthroughs because there's another trophy for getting Excalibur II and you can only do that by reaching the final area in under 12 hours. So not only do you have to grind but you have to follow it up with a speed run

Okay, had to add this after getting the platinum several hours ago. I don't hate the game, I love it, but... meh....

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch

There aren't enough story-related trophies to reward you for advancing, and some of the trophies were Grandma Grind.

Familiarologist: 250 familiars is 75% of the list and you'll only be to tame 33% of these. You will need to use metamorphosis to get the rest, and good luck getting enough drops to get your basic familiars to their final form... and you'll need two of them because most of the lines have branching final forms so you need to get both of the final forms. (This wasn't hard for me as taming was not as rare as last time I did the platinum run for this game and I just abused the casino once they started displaying the Jumbo Drops.)

Super Hero: See Mad Scientist. You need to do the old man's quest to get enough stamps to get the final reward.

Mad Scientist: This is horrible because once you log in every recipe which uses common or rare materials, it'll only be 80%. You need to get 92% of the alchemy completion to get this trophy. The game does not track how many unique recipes you've completed, so you have to do all of the quests that give you recipes to fill out the top option... and one of those quests require you to make The War God's Ax. (No, not Kratos' axe from the new God Of War :P) To make this axe, you need Kalediostones and Scrolls of Truth, and both of these require you to steal from golden monsters which are a 10% spawn rate in areas deep in dungeons you've been in. FK the old man living in the cave over Al Mamoon, may the rocks crash on his head. ? Worse, I had to farm more Kaledistones because all of the other recipes require items that are even RARER(Angel Wings from a Golden elephant enemy, All-Seeing Eyes which are only gotten as supreme rare drops from an enemy that requires spamming Gateway to respawn, and Evil Eyes which FK it, I don't care anymore).

Overfamiliar, Pedigree Breeder: Hope you like alchemizing high-level sweets because there is no way in Hades you are going to get to that fifth heart of affection without a ton of Knickerbocker Glorys (which my Claptrap loved) or similar snacks, the sweets you buy at the shop will take a zillion battles because you can only feed 10 treats at a time and have to win 10 battles to be able to feed more treats. This is why I am glad there are no familiar BS in the new sequel, I hate this system. Oh, and I had to craft more high-level Knickerbockers for my Clap Trap and I just screwed it and gave a Fairy Chocolate to get three free stat points in a useless stat.

All in all, those few grinds take weeks to complete. The rift bosses are pretty hard too but other than Zodiarchangel, the rematches were not too difficult(and was glad that the Zodiarchangel fight was in a place I could warp to instead of all of the way at the end of the final dungeon like I had expected or I would have lost my mind) and even Guardian of the Worlds wasn't bad. Solosseum was tough but I got through it with my Claptrap Whippy since he was so tough that even the final fight wasn't a struggle and I had the others just bash the guys until one dropped and it snowballed from there.

So in conclusion, this is a great game, awesome story, lovely cinematics... but the Grandma Grinds did not make the trip to platinum very fun. Hopefully Revenant Kingdom's trophies aren't as BS.
