Descent Into Madness: A Noob's Trophy Collection

Since Christmas 2017, I have succumbed to the allure of trophies. A little bit about me - I'm 25 (at the time of writing this), recent graduate with a nice-enough job that gives me plenty of time to play. And that's the downfall, isn't it? All of my free time is basically going into playing games. I had an original PlayStation with my siblings (I'm the middle child of 3), and we would play Crash Bandicoot and Tomb Raider together (though, one day they wouldn't let me play and left me out, so I took the Crash Bandicoot disc out of the PlayStation as they were playing it and threw it out of the window. In my defence, I was about 6 years old at the time. I'd never do that to a game now -- I think). I played the hell out of my PlayStation 2, got a PlayStation 3, but lost the gaming bug around then. I was also playing PC and Nintendo around about then too. Never played Xbox. 

 

My Platinum list is pretty dire at the moment so don't judge - especially when you see that my platinums mainly consists of LEGO games and the easier 'telltale' variety. But I promise, I'm working on expanding my platinums and being the best Pokémon trainer, I mean, PlayStation gamer I can be. So this thread is just going to be something I work on and come back to. I'm currently working on getting my games to around 70-100% complete and lifting my average grade up. I don't know about you, but Platinums can be such a chore. Fun, but a chore.

 

I had about a 30% completion rate and F rank in December 2017. Now it's just over 50% and a B rank. We can do better than that I think. Also, I do realise how shameful my current list of Platinums is. At the minute, I'm playing the stories of a lot of games without going all the way to 100% (aka Tomb Raider, Assassin's Creed, etc.). I hope to see this Platinum list grow and grow.

When I say abandoned, I mean I don't play on my PS3 anymore. I do still own these games and it kills me that it's gonna drag down my completion and rank, but some of these I have no desire of returning to. For instance, I'm currently playing the Kingdom Hearts series on PS4, and I have absolutely no desire to replay them again on the PS3 even though I started them. I have been an avid fan of the Kingdom Hearts series since 2006 (and I'm dying to get KH3) but playing these games again will make me hate the early games. KH2 is one of my all-time favourite games, but if I have to play it again, I'll not enjoy it anymore. I played that and the original millions of times on the PS2 and I don't want to taint those fond memories.

I absolutely loved Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch from what I played, and I paid around £200 for the Wizard's Edition so it seems a waste to not aim for Platinum there, so out of this list, Ni No Kuni is my number one priority. I will also revisit LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7 and LEGO The Lord of the Rings, and potentially Alice: Madness Returns. But I cannot touch the Kingdom Hearts games on PS3. I love them too much to want to ruin my enjoyment of them. I had more games for the PS3 that I didn't play enough of to get onto the trophy list, such as the reboot of Tomb Raider and Dead Island. And yep, I have the dreaded PlayStation Home on my trophies list. Shame, I know, since I can never try to get the trophies for that. Forever never gonna get 100% completion. I should have started a new account when I got the PS4.

PS: Limbo isnt that hard, its only intimidating. Watch a "less than 5 deaths run" on YouTube and youre gonna get the "No point in dying" trophy.

Hello! You can do it. Last May I got my first platinum in a Tell Tale game and a 12% completion rate. Then I went bonkers with trophy hunting and improving my profile. You can do it too plus your games look funner than the ones I have to clean up.

Hey - thanks for the kind words. Yah, I managed to get through Limbo (even the dark area where you literally cannot see anything), but I died so many times. I'm so intimidated by that final trophy. I will most likely attempt this - soon. Good advice, I'll refresh my memory on the game by watching a walkthrough. I'll do my best ?

Just kidding! I am in the same boat, although I prefer Artifex Mundi games to Telltales, tried one Telltale game and never looked back. (Tales from the Borderlands which was a PS+ Freebie in March 2017) And I'm a fellow LEGO enthusiast. I guess I like the cute plastic  caricatures of famous fictional characters.

 

And with all of those games you have incomplete on your account, don't worry about it. You'll get respect soon enough. I bet Kent10201 would be impressed that you're tackling some Kingdom Hearts titles.

Thanks for your message! Haha you gave a fair evaluation about the whole self-confidence thing to be fair - I'm pretty good at putting myself down about any sort of achievement. And I can also understand your affection for LEGO games - I think that's what I like most about them too. 

 

 

I got my ninth platinum today - Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom!! I should have got the platinum three days ago but it took forever to find the final skirmish to get the God of War trophy, leading to the Platinum. So many stressful hours. But it's over now. Phew!

I suggest you go after that NnK platinum. The game is just so cute to watch. I admit the final 10-20 hours consist in a lot of farming, though. However the game is so well done, it deserves it.
