Update: Patch #3!

Patch 3 is out! Would you look at that. Came a long way.

1 last patch for UI and other stuff is expected to drop at the end of June.

Further to last month's update, the game's third PC patch tweaks UI across its world map, inside its towns and dungeons, within shop menus, during time warps, and "during unique scenarios such as how narrative choices and mini-games are displayed". New UI options designed to suit both gamepad and mouse and keyboard players have also been introduced. -pcgamer

CHRONO TRIGGER – Patch #2 Update!

From the steam store

"Hey everyone,
Thank you for all of the positive messages you’ve sent us since we announced the fixes we’re making to CHRONO TRIGGER on Steam, and again since the first patch was released. Today we’re releasing the second update patch for CHRONO TRIGGER, and here’s a list of what’s being changed:

A new battle user interface (UI) has been added based on the look and feel of the original CHRONO TRIGGER.

An option has been added to select between the UI optimised for controller/keyboard mentioned above, and the current UI optimised for mouse & touch panels. This option appears in “settings” in the main menu.

The game can now be paused during battle by using the pause button on controller, or the Space bar on the keyboard.

Adjusted the look of playable characters on the world map to be more in-line with the original version of CHRONO TRIGGER.

The resolution of animated cut-scenes has been improved.

The display area of animated cut-scenes has been increased.

Fixed instances where the game slowed down during certain scenes.

The Korean font has been updated.

Other small bugs are fixed.

Here are some screenshots of the new controller/keyboard battle UI in action!

Finally, we’re aiming to release another update to CHRONO TRIGGER in early June this year which will continue to tweak the UI outside of battle, please keep your eyes on the CHRONO TRIGGER Steam page for more details.

Thanks again from everyone on the CHRONO TRIGGER team for all of your support."

Original Post

This news made me very happy, because if they bring the steam port to PSN with trophy support it will look and play as it should!

"Square Enix says that three patches are coming to fix the Steam version’s problems.

“We have been working on addressing the issues that you’ve raised, and will be releasing a number of patches over the coming months as we continue to support Chrono Trigger on Steam,” Square Enix said in an update posted to Steam.

Chrono Trigger’s first patch is expected “in the first half of April.” That patch will include the option to switch between Chrono Trigger’s existing graphics and “the original graphical style of Chrono Trigger.”"

Who would use the existing UI? ick

Regardless of the graphical change it wouldn't change that the game is a port of the mobile version of the game. Isn't that what would make it poorly received and not just the graphics?

There's going to be 3 patches over the next few months. I suspect the UI will be one of the others.

If that's what you meant.

If the UI doesn't change, I'm not buying.

I'm not holding my breath. The DS version is still the best version that's out there anyway.

The mobile version is a port of the DS version, so maybe they're trying to backpeddle to that.

Garbage level port from their smartphone port. The SNES and DS versions are amazing, this one has terrible issues like lag when running, auto talking scenes stopping mid sentence then disappearing, and a complete garbage combat ui. The font on the text is terrible(which I normally wouldn't care about but it's that bad) and the "smooth" pixels are garbage.

It must have been handled better on mobile then, but regardless, the DS version had no lag, no issues that I can remember, even. It seems the majority of complaints are solely the UI. Sucks that it's ugly, but... oh well I guess? Not the biggest deal.

Edit: I looked over some screenshots just to see how allegedly daunting these UI elements are to make it to the point of do not buy but it's not even that bad. :hmm:

This is extremely exciting how good of a job they're doing! And in a month they're going to update the ui(presumably the menu).

Can't wait for them to port the finished patched version to ps4! With trophies!
