Site suggestion: Title unification, localization

Recommended Posts

There are a lot of stack games released.
I think a lot of stacks game titles in PSNProfiles.com still need localization or organization.

I'm using Korean, Japanese and English for searching stacks games but I can't search some titles with Japanese Kanji, Kana or Korean over 2 more characters.

I think this is technical problem, so I suggest that all game titles change to English because Japanese, Korean or other languages based game titles can change to Roman(English) easily and it may see better view on trophy page.

I attach example image for suggestion.

I was starting to do this a few months back but @Sly Ripper told me to hold off

I may start by doing it for lists with multiple regions unless Sly objects for some reason :dunno:

No localization. Only Japanese.

I must have my unreadables.

Lol English must take over! :ninja:

If people play or stack these games, presumably most of them either already know the language or they don't care, so there's no need to change it for them. And it'd be silly to change the names to translated versions for the sake of people who aren't likely to ever play them. Especially in the case where there isn't actually an English release of a game. I've run into a couple of people using the boosting sessions who don't actually speak any English, so it's not just English speakers who use this site. I think a few games were affected by this a few years ago, although thankfully it stopped.

The searching feature is broken for most Asian languages, but for stacks there'll be a link to each version on their individual pages. Upgrading the search feature to accommodate these languages instead seems like a more useful request.

I hope this doesn't happen, especially if it means that we get more shit like this: https://psnprofiles.com/trophies/2346-puella-magi-madoka-magica-the-battle-pentagram

The first part of the title is completely disregarded. On PSN it looks like this:

On here, "劇場版" is left out of both the localized title and the original:

I don't see why it was changed in the first place; there's no localized version of the game and no other trophy lists (as far as I know).

Also this. At least at the start, we will have a shitload of threads with 'THIS GAME IS LOCALIZED?! WHERE CAN I BUY IZZZZ? I NO SEE ON STORE!'

I know little about how Korean or forms of Chinese are typically dealt with, but consistent and widespread romanisation of Japanese game titles alone can potentially lead to massive (read: super annoying) issues for both speakers of Japanese, as well as some others here on PSNP.

While I take it that sticking to modified Hepburn for all titles would likely be a forthcoming path to take towards the majority of English-speaking European (and possibly American? idk about this for the US tbh) users of the site, Nihon-shiki instead may be the far more sensible decision for parts of the Japanese (and Asian?) userbase. Hepburn or Nihon-shiki is a big choice to make.

I am also going to put forth the argument that, switching to any form of romanisation isn't going to help everyone save some valuable time and brain flexing thanks to a then useable site-search, but that it will simply toss around the need to invest an indefinite amount of seconds/minutes and, possibly, the need to do a quick google search (for 'JP game title in Japanese + PSNP')' to other parts of the PSNP userbase. Meaning, what some users are forced to do to find games (or regional stacks of games) with the state of matters right now, a switch away from written Japanese to all romanised titles will help these very users but would potentially force yet other users to start doing the very same thing in the future. A switch would, so to speak, 'shift the issue' - but wouldn't solve the underlying issue itself.

or fix the goddamn search bar that can't read Kanji.

Again, so much this. It can read Kanji but for some weird reason only one. So there's gotta be something to it.

Since the request was for actual localization, I would presume Hepburn transcription was included in the request.

But mainly localizing titles as localizing == using their English name rather than just transcripting.

Which is why it must not be allowed.

To English. Oh. Ooh. Now, in my mind:

テイルス? Sure.

十三支演義? Eh, how creative can they have gotten.

雷子? ( ̄▽ ̄)

Edit: of course, 2 of these 3 would stay safe and sound (not stacks).

Add names in english to Other Names and fix the search tool to include Other Names in the search results. End.

This actually works o.o

It seems it's already been implemented.

I can search for ReZero using any part of the English letter Other Names. Both transcription and translated title.

So the problem is adding Other names to more games.

This would be a perfect solution and I would be glad to help with that :awesome:
