The Fallout series?

I have recently purchased Fallout 4 but I am just wondering if it is worth playing Fallout 3 and Fallout NV before Fallout 4 or are the games not related to each other?

They are, but there’s nothing specifically requiring prior knowledge, short of a bit of lore stuff.

Certainly you will not suffer for not playing previous entries - I’d say just play 4, and if you fancy going back afterwards then give 3 a go.

There are connections between 3 and 4 but they're fairly minor, thus it's not necessary to play it beforehand . New Vegas is entirely unconnected to 4 but does have a minor link to 3. If you're going to play either 3 or NV, then I recommend skipping the console versions entirely and getting them on PC instead and modding the hell out of them so they work properly.
