Is it possible to do the online first?

To elaborate, what are the requirements, if possible, to get the online out of the way and come back to single player later?

From my understanding, I'd need 2000 points worth of cups and beat a friend's score 30 times. Is there anything else?

Is this even possible or do I have to complete campaign first?

You have to increase your awesomeness level to unlock the challenges and to do that you have to play the single-player.

 

It's beneficial to start the online challenges as soon as possible. Even if you're good enough to get all diamonds it will take a couple of weeks. Otherwise months.

 

You might as well play the main game around online, that'd be the most efficient way.

Ok, so I need to play single player to get awesomeness level 7... only then do the challenges unlock and only then can I begin the online portion of the game.

You can do the daily challenge from the very beginning, and the daily extreme/weekly/weekly extreme unlock at various levels.

You'll need 1866 points from the challenges, at least one gold, silver, and bronze cup (there's a trophy for each and they don't stack), as well as beating a friend's score/time 30 times.

 

But, these challenges are really just single player with an online leaderboard.  I don't see why you'd want to do them first.

Sounds like you're just doing challenges that are updated online.

Basically, im trying to get whatever online trophies i can out the way. I havent played rayman 3 or origins yet so i'd rather not force myself to play the campaign if i didnt have to.

You don't need to play single player first if you don't want to. You can unlock all challenges by online play only if you want. If you're skipping the campaign because of a story, there is none. So no reason to play them in order honestly.
