Popular Post Lonemankane
Hello again everyone, we are back once again to do a new review but on this small game called Crypt of the Serpent King. Now before we start the review I wanted to say that the game has not plot to speak of so I am just going to talk about how it works and so on then we move on to the good and then bad, so let's dive down and see how this game works and plays and what is in it. The game open ups with the main menu and very few ops to pick on the menu, mostly just how to play, settings and new game or if you played abit resume game, and it shows mostly that there is no load game so there is only one save slot, there is also only 3 difficulty ops to pick from and that being easy and normal and hardcore however that mode is locked off till you beat the game on normal, and with all of them the only thing different from one another is there is more chests and if you die in easy you keep all the gold and xp earned till the moment you died, while the normal mode makes it where you lose all your earn gold and xp you gotten and there is less boxes and with hardcore they remove the food that heals you from the chests replaced with either gold or arrows. The combat is somewhat abit like the old ulitma underworld games, you attack to hurt the enemy they flash abit of white while making a kind of stunned reaction and once killed they top over and land on the floor, the jumping however, is mostly very short, but it is mostly a more crapy small jump that can get you killed if you don't time it right when jumping to get keys or if your trying to get away from an attack like a bunny hop. also there is only about 7 types of enemies not counting the bosses, rat warrior guys, goblin using two swords, orcs, armoured soldiers with spears, skeletons warriors, big spiders and then snakes. All the enemies only pop up on one stage, like take the orcs they only pop up on level 3 and never pop up again on any other floor. Also after every floor/ level you get to spend the xp and gold you gotten on each floor along with each floor being randomly generated every time you die or go to it. There is also only 5 melee weapons and 2 bow type of weapons most of them need a lot of gold to get mostly the crossbow and the normal bow is a lot to buy, there is also only 3 types of items you can get other than the main one needed to go but the items goes as follows. Food to heal you, gold bars with coins on top and lastly arrows/bolts when you get either the crossbow or bow. The only thing there is mostly to do in it is finding all the keys to unlock the main door to the boss and killing them, all levels have a boss in them and that is all there is to the game. Now with most of the game talked about lets drive to what is good about it. The Good. Most of the starting parts of the game is cool as most of the charm of being dropped into a maze/ floor makes you want to look in every nook and cranny of it to get all the chests and kill all the enemies like any other dungeon like games, such as ulitma underworld or the first bard's tale even though that game was mostly a kind of point and click like. The game is very cheap to buy along with a very easy plat. And well that might be all to really talk about in terms of good stuff but there will be more in the fast wrap up, but before that we now go to the bad The Bad. Combat is somewhat boring as all it is, is move abit forword and once the enemy hits go in stab, stab, go back when they attack and then go in for the kill over and over again for all enemies types even bosses, when near an enemy a repeating bit of music plays down your ear when the enemy is walking to you or very loud sound effects in the later levels, like random door opening sounds when there is no doors till the last level or a wooo kind of sound to try and scare you. There is also somewhat broken hit boxes with 2 of the enemies I found, the goblin when it does the attack of using both swords can hurt you at times and will be annoying in hardcore, and the snakes leap attack is hard to tell how far their attack range is as sometimes it does not hurt you and sometimes it does, it is also very easy to even just run past them once you got a lot of endurance levelled up like up to about 4 or 5. It is also too easy to bait enemies into the place where you need to jump a small gab to get a key they will just stand near it and act like your not there and if your close to the edge you can attack them till they die or if you attack them the once and you fail to hurt them in time they will walk around in circles or walk off the edge and fall into the gab that has either spikes or lava. When using the bow the enemies will kind of like glitch/ move left and right making it very hard to hurt them, this is more annoying if your trying to use the bolt or arrows on the boss as they do the same thing and all the bosses while abit cool in looks are the same as the enemies in terms of AI and how to take them down as well. Now I think we should get to the wrap up here as it is going on too much if you ask me so on to the recap. The Good. Starting charm of the maze is fun for the most part. Cheap to buy game. Easy to get plat. Ok flow to movement fast but controllable. The Bad. Boring combat after you find out the way to kill enemies. Repeating music and sounds. Broken hitboxes. Easy to run from and bait enemies/bosses to their death/ letting you kill them. Very short jump. Odd glitch/movement of the enemy to get out of your crosshair when trying to shoot arrows even when flashing white. No real replay value. Final thoughts. The game is for me anyways a mixed bag but I will say I have a high tension for games as I have played far worst games but from the point of view of a person who likes dungeon crawl games and has not played worst games this will be bad, there is hardly no replay value unless you want the plat to the game and well it is somewhat of a let down but hey what do you expect for a very cheap game like this. I think the best rating I can give this game is a 1.5/5 to anyone who is a lover of dungeon crawlers and or just a normal every day person who has a lot on their hands and very little gaming time this game is a no go. But if your like me who likes trying out even bad games or if your a trophy hunter who plats everything this might be a go ahead but I will warn that it is best to play this with either someone with you to make it more fun or playing music to stop the boringness of it from getting to you however make sure it is not too loud so you can at least hear the music that plays if the enemy is walking to you/ near you. I hope this review helped you all as this is mostly a quick little game to review and get done as well am still writing my reviews for the other games along with dealing with stuff so my time is abit all over but yeah. However, I will try to get the next review done within the next month coming and I hope you all enjoyed. If any of you have any tips to get better at making reviews please let me know down below.
