Nintendo games on PSN - a possibility at some point in the future?

I've been wondering about this for a long time. When Sega ceased the production of the Dreamcast in the early 2000s and became a pure game developer, their flagship mascot Sonic started to appear on the consoles of their former rivals Sony and Nintendo and today we have loads of ancient Sega games available on PSN. However I'm not wishing for Nintendo to suffer the same fate as Sega. After all it was them who revived the industry in the mid-1980s after the video game crash in 1983. So I've asked myself if there might be other scenarios where this could happen. Obviously there's no chance we'd get to play current gen stuff like Super Mario Odyssey on PS4 but what about much older games? Like for instance anything up to the N64 and all the GB/GBA Pokemon games? I'm aware that Nintendo is still making money on many of them through digital distribution and that the timeframe for Pokemon games has pretty much passed since Sony is trying to forget about the Vita. But still, Sony is currently the biggest player in the global console market with roughly about 42% market share in 2017, so that's a huge number of players who might be spending their money on a game they fondly remember from their childhood before Playstation was even a thing (or just getting started). And yeah I'm also aware that people are already playing all sorts of stuff on their hacked Vitas but it takes things to an entirely different level when it become official. Anyway I'm just curious for a few other people's opinion on this since I'm not an expert :)

Has Sony even decided to play nicely with the Fortnight cross-platform play yet? (I think it was Fortnight at least)

For Nintendo games to come to Sony, Sony would either have to pay a crazy high amount of money for them or join in a joint venture with Nintendo. Since both companies are pretty comfortable in their current markets, there's no need for them to potentially rock the boat. The only way I see this happening is if Nintendo somehow becomes desperate for money or if Sony feels Nintendo is no longer in their market segments.

With some exceptions in the early days of video game consoles, Nintendo never puts their IPs on systems that aren't theirs.

Not to mention that Nintendo probably isn't too happy with PlayStation, considering they indirectly created it.

Not yet, and it's unlikely they will, unless the backslash gets too enormous. They are however setting a bad PR for themselves, although this certainly isn't enough to even cause any major 'damage' to the company (yet).

Short answer: No.

Short answer: Impossible. ?

It will be nice if games like the first Xenoblade and both Baten kaitos come to playstation and with trophy support of course, but Nintendo is a close mind company and also I don't like the idea of get some only-nintendo games on playstation. Nintendo live in it's own world and a lot of  fans are happy with that.

Maybe a couple of years ago I might have said they were on the verge of tipping their hand because they seemed awfully desperate but the Switch seems to have saved their sorry asses for the time being, this new president of theirs has also been really improving things it seems.

I thought about that as well. Things were looking quite grim with the Wii U but as you said the Switch saved them for now. In fact this thought was sparked by a video I had watched some time ago where it was discussed what could have happened should the Switch fail. Disregarding this hasn't become reality the uploader still makes quite a few good points.

The only reason games like the cdi zelda games were notoriously bad was because the developer wasn't exactly a top tier developer(thier only other claim to fame is im meen and its sequel chill manor which are almost as bad and have just as lulzy cutscenes) amd combined with the fact that the cdi was quite the mess of a console is why those games turned out the way they were, it wasn't being on a non nintendo console that caused them to be bad. Besides nintendo have been known for sometimes letting third parties handle thuer ips look at the zelda oracle games and f zero gx, those games were devloped by capcom and sega and turned out great. While we will probably never see mario or pokemon on a non nintendo console, it would be total misinformation and baseless speculation to claim thier games would be bad on non nintendo consoles.

I was hoping the Switch would fail leading to Nintendo becoming a third-party developer. Would love to play a Zelda or Mario game on hardware that isn't several years behind everything else and with trophies.

Lol, I hear ya but I there is something strange about the Switch. As low powered / poor performance as it is, it just works amazingly well. Maybe just software made perfectly for it.

While it's not near as powerful as PS4 & Xbox One, the gimmick of being able to "Switch" between portable & console may well be what saves it.
