I need more BIOSHOCK
I had a blast with DR2 and OTR but this one just seems absolute crap. Maybe it doesn't help that I played this one after the later ones years before on the PS3 I don't know, the gameplay in this one is awful. Any survivors you try and escort to the safe house get killed even if they have guns. I've just leveled to 9 and got the dodge roll skill and the game has now become horrible to play. Every 5 seconds I roll for no reason everywhere I'm trying to get to and it's beyond annoying! I know that once you kill the 53,000 zombies and get the mega blaster weapon it's much easier but I honestly don't think I can even find the motivation to go back to it. Back when I got the triple pack in a sale I gave this a go first and didn't think much of it so I jumped right on to 2 then OTR planning to give it another go at some point. Tried today but...... Meh. Anyone else or is it just me?
LuciaRosethorn
Of course you think that, you're going to an old game after playing the newer ones in the series. I'm currently playing it and I do agree that the game isn't great and I always roll into zombies when I don't mean to but I know it's just old, if you don't like it then just stop playing it.

Popular Post LrryLegend
Well I played the original Dead Rising years ago on the Xbox 360 and I think it's much better than DR2 and OTR. Now I don't know if it controls different on the PS4 than the 360 version but I loved getting those chainsaws and using them forever. Mannequin torso was awesome too....
Popular Post ChanelOberlin494
Sorry to necro. I personally think this one is the best of the bunch. Sure it’s archaic and has bad AI and some terrible achievements but there’s nothing else out there like it. Not even the sequels. this one has by far the best story and is also the most horror-like of the games, hence the difficulty.
SnowxSakura
It's easier to go for the 53k kills as the very first thing you do ignoring everything on the first playthrough. Not only do you get mega mans buster, which is the strongest weapon in the game, you'll also hit level 50 just from the grind.

How did you deal with the mind-boggling frustration of survivors getting themselves killed while you’re trying to escort them? In the cinema mission, they would always die on the way back to the safe house. It made me so mad because it was not my fault, but the AI’s. This is why I stopped playing the game..
Popular Post You
Well after experimentation I discovered a few things that makes the AI easier to deal with. First of all you should be playing with the MegaBlaster, I spent my first 2 playthroughs getting the 50000 kills and then having fun getting various trophies that doesn't involve survivors. Anyone on my third attempt, some tips - At the very beginning in the first bookstore, pick up the book which gives you timing instructions PP when taking photos. This actually ends up like a radar allowing you to see through walls Metal Gear Solid style. A big (usually orange) PP shows where psychopaths and survivors are, and smaller PP shows all nearby zombies, even behind walls, A small Green PP is "Comedy" and that can be used to see where Zombies pushing bomb cannisters and nearby Queens. - Everytime you go past the Colombian Roastmasters place stock up on infinite orange juices, mix a ton of them, two at a time, this gives you nectar. - You can also use a Coffee Creamer and Orange to give you the Quickstep drink. The Food Court has a mixer too, with 2xYogurt and 2xMilk, mixing a Yogurt and Milk also gives you Quickstep. Anyway with these in mind ignore food and just carry Nectar and Quickstep. - Now when you have access to Queens, which is early on, drink a Nectar and then grab the Queen that appears nearby. Always keep drinking Nectar so the words Nectar appear at the bottom. - Keep an eye on your radar, Green PP shows a zombie that has a queen in its head. You can see them a mile off, kill those zombies and always keep about 5 or 6 queens on you depending on what quest you are doing Your inventory should be:- Mega Blaster, Photo Magazine, 1 Orange Juice, 1-2 Nectar, 1-2 QuickStep, 1-2 Handgun, rest with Queens Later on after the Cinema incident pick up the pink book that makes it so Survivors no longer have fear. Anyway each time you rescue a survivor, - If a Survivor does take a few hits or is on low health (like Paul) give them an Orange Juice, they will be on full health. - Give them a gun if they will accept one (Accept that "Lovers" guy don't give him a gun or else he goes crazy and you can't save him) In this game each time you press Triangle to call them, they do a 2-3 second animation and THEN start running, therefore continually pressing Triangle MAKES THEM SLOWER as it takes them 2-3 seconds to recalculate their running path. That tip is very important. Call them once then leave the button alone. If they get stuck on a wall or object, just run at them and push them out of it. This game also has what I like to call "cheating", in DR2 if you killed Zombies they never came back, in DR1 they slowly respawn and usually behind you. Therefore in areas with high amounts of zombies you should use R2 and Triangle and put a point in front of you, it's way safer to stand BEHIND the AI and keep an eye on them towards a destination, keep the survivors in view so the game doesn't cheat on you. You should where possible go crazy with the blaster in First person view getting near to Zombies and pressing Square and using auto aim. If a survivor does get grabbed jump kick the zombie away, if they get grabbed by a ton of enemies, throw a queen at the survivor. Think of them as rescue grenades. While escorting, and if your inventory is full you still might see a lot of queens (as you will be will on Nectar state) Each time you see a Green PP zombie with a queen at its head throw a queen at the that zombie Throwing a Queen at that zombie will NOT kill it, however you can now shoot the queen zombie and immediately get that queen right back and you'll have cleared a bit more space out for the survivors (the bouncing worms do virtually zero damage) When running normally and with survivors following behind, turn around every 4-5 seconds and run backwards looking at them, check to make sure they haven't got stuck, or grabbed by zombies appear out of nowhere. Before going through a door use R2 and Triangle and aim as close as you can to the door, and watch the survivors towards the door (stand away from the door as much as you can. For me the only problem with the AI is when there are many of them together and they get stuck bumping into each other. When that happens run at one of them, basically rugby tackle them away and split them up (it does not damage the survivors tackling them, nor does it make them turn against and rebel against you) In all cases, when you have down time between rescuing survivors, always go around find more queens. Have 6 or 7 at the ready. You should also know that Zombies come in numbers, each time you go into an area a few more zombies appear. You probably noticed that if you killed all zombies in the warehouse, and in the elevator, the next time you get into the elevator there will be 3 or 5 and not an entire elevator full. Each time you go into other areas they slowly refill. Therefore in the example of the Cinema rescue where there are five survivors, before the quest happens, stand near the Cinema area and clear the area, there are infinite plates in Jill's Sandwiches, save your ammo a bit and just go crazy with plates, killing as many as you can before the quest starts. Then when you come back here later with 5 survivors there will be way fewer zombies. it will make things a bit easier. With the right setup and prep, you should have way fewer issues escorting surviviors, especially since the Megablaster holds 300 bullets and you can refill it everytime you get back to the Safehouse. Save often! Planning is the key. I managed to complete the 7 day survivor mode very easily over the weekend, by fighting only one or two bosses. melodicmizery
i liked it, i wrote a trophy guide for it on another website i wont mention because their new layout sucks (im sure you can guess it). the ai was a weak point of the game though and the bugs. you shouldnt have to save so many ai when they keep dying and not following you. other then bad porting glitches like hovering through the ceiling in dr2 in co op they are all good games. the game was fun enough though to deal with the ai and bugs
Gethron
Yes, the survivor AI in Dead Rising sucks, and is absolutely the weakest part of the game. While in DR2 and OTR you barely need to pay attention to your survivors at all, in DR you need to babysit them every step of the way or the zombies will eat them. It's up to you whether this is challenging or frustrating. My advice to take survivors in small batches to better keep an eye on and protect all of them. And be glad that "Escort 8 survivors at once." for the Tour Guide trophy isn't "Rescue 8 survivors at once."
You
A problem with the game like I mentioned earlier is that the game cheats and spawns zombies outside of your general range that you can see. I have once cleared almost the entire path towards to the safe house, then I called the survivors and one of them was in trouble and literally surrounded by about 10 zombies which would have been impossible since I cleared the path like 20 seconds ago. So when you run with the survivors you need to keep them in view so the game can't cheat and spawn zombies next to the survivors because you ran away and left too far. The moment they are too far behind or in front of you is when they magically get attacked by zombies. It's also annoying that sometimes they take weird paths. I frequently have to move that plant pot that is next to the camera store because they get stuck there. You can easily get around the issues, but the only one you can't get around easily is trying to get the survivors into the safehouse, they will frequently get into battles with each other trying to get into the same spot to climb up. I still think the biggest issue with the game though is the aiming system which they fixed in the second, not being able to move and fight at the same time is annoying, it's not Resident Evil 4 annoying. The game locks to your view and not where Frank is facing and it always starts off the aim pose at completely flat so you have to aim up or down, even though you were already aiming the camera upwards. For that reason I rarely used FPS mode aiming unless I needed to do. Thankfully the auto aim with the megablaster is really good and just relied on that, literally running at zombies and tapping close at close range to easily despatch them. Despite the aiming and finicky AI, the game is still amazing though. I've had to battle through clunkier games than this. It's like going back to the brilliant RE4, it just takes a while to get used to old style controls. 4 hours ago, melodicmizery said: i liked it, i wrote a trophy guide for it on another website i wont mention because their new layout sucks (im sure you can guess it). the ai was a weak point of the game though and the bugs. you shouldnt have to save so many ai when they keep dying and not following you. other then bad porting glitches like hovering through the ceiling in dr2 in co op they are all good games. the game was fun enough though to deal with the ai and bugs I just checked out your guide, I laughed at some of the comments "I just winged it". I went back and had a quick go on Dead Rising 2 and well, the Zombies are pretty dumb in that one, not really that aggressive at all, which explains why the AI in DR1 seems so bad. I forgot to mention that on Day 1 when you start the game you have access to 2 Coffee Creamer in the main room, every day you should take them both and then go to the Roastmaster and mix Coffee Creamer with Orange Juice (since there is infinite of them) this gives you two Quickstep, so everytime you finish delivering survivors to the safehouse (which does take time) when you need to go to the next mission, you can just speed run your way to the next location. You can also use a Quickstep as soon as you go outside in Leisure Park to just run back the convicts in their Jeep, you are fast enough to get away from them and be too fast to get hit. I'm tempted to write a 7 day survival guide since there isn't one yet. Edited October 13, 2021 by enaysoft
Wagszilla
It’s very much a relic of the early Xbox 360 era. I like the game but like it despite itself. The horrible AI and quest management system to name the utmost of my grievances. I’m also pretty frustrated that the Psychos glitched halfway through so I got locked out of trophies and progression there.
