(it's meant to be a fancy, gilded bee. But how do you show something is gilded on a gold trophy?)

The badge looks great! I was interested in seeing how you would incorporate my word into the trophy, and you did a great job! Thanks for your hard work.

Well, that took way longer than I thought it would, to do the custom image for everyone's badges. Hopefully people at least like them, to make it worth all that effort or I'm gonna go cry in a corner (like a grown-up) xD And I do sincerely apologise for the delay, I shouldn't have made you guys wait so long (explanation at the bottom of the post for anyone who wants one).

Pings (sorry if the update to the second post where I moved everyone around caused a double-ping, I wasn't sure if it'd ping anyone?):

Everyone's badges have been added to the second post, along with their final words and the plats they used to make them (I removed all unused plats). If you want the badge re-sized let me know. They're currently 175x175 because the smallest size that still looked best imo, but they can be made anywhere between 150x150 - 250x250 if anyone would prefer that, will only take a few seconds to save a different size as everything is already in my files and would just need re-saved to the other size and re-uploaded - and I'm off work for the next week (to play Spyro) so I can make edits any time.

Size previews (in a spoiler to stop the post being too big):

For anyone that got the bonus badge, I also made a gold badge with "MAYUS" in it, unless they submitted a second word they'd prefer to be used. If you didn't submit a word, but want one now, let me know and I'll make a new gold badge for you :) Also, the badge is available in two different colours - everyone is currently green because it's more Mayus-y (yes, that's a real word, I checked), but can be switched to a more platinum-trophy-like colouring if you'd prefer (will only take a few seconds to save the alternate colour as the file is already set up). And like the regular badge, can be made in any of those sizes (actually, the bonus badge can go up to 500x500, but I don't think anyone wants a badge that big...).

(I could also make a green main trophy base with the silver-only bees, if anyone wanted that)

Also the following people haven't submitted words but have enough letters to make one. If you all let me know which word you want me to use, I can make your badge for you (you can use Scrabble Word Finder or something similar if you're no good at anagrams, like me):

@Bojuka76 - available letters - AFRTT

@Nitro - available letters - ABCCCCDEFFFFFGHJJJJMMMPPSSSSSTTTTTTTWW

@Walt the Dog - available letters - DEHIMMPPSSTZ

Also I was going to make you a badge as well @TurtlePM even though you missed the sign-up deadline, but your PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale plats were both from years ago and therefore wouldn't count for this event (100%s don't count per the first post, only plats). Same with Rocket League. If you submit another word I can make you a badge though :) your letters are DEGMOPRTT.

And for anyone who was wondering why this took so long (it's only in a spoiler tag to keep the post from being too long for anyone who doesn't care):

  Hide contents

Aside from being busy IRL - between work, forced-upon-me socialising nonsense which I could really do without, required family time (my mother doesn't stop moaning unless I spend at least half a day every weekend visiting her, and my brother likes to come over for dinner once a week and takes forever to leave), and taking care of my fluff children, I don't generally get a lot of free time at home (most of my game time is using Remote Play at work...don't tell my boss or he'll stop letting me have my own office). Basically, the only free time I ever have is on a Sunday, where I also have to do all my housework, and food shopping, etc. In other words, not a whole lot of time to work on the badges, even if I used every second of my free time.

I also had hardware issues, both with my PC breaking and having to replace it temporarily with my brother's laptop (which just can't handle photoshop without regular crashes), and my tablet pen, which I accidentally snapped when playing with the rubber grip. Both of those things also slowed the whole process a lot (the pen basically removed a whole weekend where I could've worked on them).

But I also made things needlessly complicated for myself with my chosen badge design. Which is obviously 100% my own fault of course. But to illustrate the issues I had:

  1. The perspective of the base was overly complex for someone who isn't the best at art in the first place (I was originally gonna make a badge for myself but then decided I couldn't be bothered after doing my name).
    • Just using text obviously doesn't work, like so: demo1_by_kristycism-dcpnwe8.png
    • Using photoshops in-built text editing to make a curve still doesn't work: demo2_by_kristycism-dcpnwe0.png
    • So I basically had to edit each letter of each person's name one by one, adjusting the size, rotation and skew until I got it to look right.
  2. The text also then had to be edited to make it look like a carving rather than just put on.
    • Unedited vs edited: demo3_by_kristycism-dcpnwoo.png
    • Close-up of how it looked after editing: demo4_by_kristycism-dcpnwt0.png
  3. Then comes the most stupid design choice I made - the fold of the page. Like the base, it was curved. But it was also at a weird diagonal angle. Which means I couldn't just draw things on. To illustrate:
    • Drawing things on would look like this, which is pretty stupid looking: demo5_by_kristycism-dcpqo0t.png
    • Using the skew tool in photoshop to make it diagonal was still dumb looking: demo6_by_kristycism-dcpqo12.png
    • So everything had to be done in the correct perspective to start with, and curved. Which for someone good at art and perspectives probably wouldn't be too bad. But I'm not that good at painting to begin with (I can do concept sketches with a simple 2D perspective, and that's it), and when I work in 3D art (which I do for my job) I literally just click and drag my mouse to get the perspective I want, rather than having to think about it...
So I basically did a trial and error process, sketching everything then editing, re-sketching, editing, etc, until it looked right, then doing the actual lines. Then after that was done, I had to blend it in with the trophy itself so it didn't stand out so much and look dumb.
    Before vs after blending: demo7_by_kristycism-dcpqu2l.png
Initially the plan was to just have the letters of the word arranged in a fancy way on the page and nothing else. This would've made things a bit easier so I could just use photoshop's text editing tools for the curve and it'd take less editing to get it right. But adding in an illustration (and in almost all badges, hand-drawing the text too) means each one took over an hour (some a lot more if the illustration was harder) for me to do. And I had 36 badges to do.

The bonus badge, on the other hand, was very simple to edit as the perspective was much easier to work with to edit everyone's names, and I didn't need to edit anything else. Like, only took a couple of minutes per badge, if that (although, if I'm being totally honest, I hadn't actually started making the base badge until after the event ended, thanks to the aforementioned PC issues, and this took me like two weekends to do. Plus the unique badge I made for one person, which took almost as long - the person didn't ask for it, it was just something I personally wanted to do, so full blame for that delay is still on me). In future if I ever do badges for events again, I'm designing them that way, and it'll only take a few hours at most to get all the badges out. Lesson learned xD

Anyway, once again I do apologise to everyone. It shouldn't have taken as long as it did, and all of those issues besides a busy life were completely my own fault, so I have no-one to blame but myself for the delay. Sorry guys! :(

OK first off all you don't need to apologize for anything. This event was a success purely because of all the hard work you put in and I want everyone to understand that. I may have come up with the idea but due to all of my real life stuff I wasn't around as much as I should have been AND the banner and awards are complete badass.

Seriously the Trini-bees of Green are some of the most badass things I have ever seen on this site. That is 100% the truth. Thank you so much for making those I can't tell you how much I love them :D.

The custom badges are something else completely. So much creativity went into those and I am uber jealous of so many of them. The Persona one is awesome, but my favourite is the Playstation one.

So once again thank you for all your hard work.

EDIT-And Mayusy is most definitely a word. I should know...I am a fake doctor on the Internet :P

Having now seen the badges, I am legitimately curious how my first word choice would have been illustrated.

Uhm, can  I safely say that your first choice would have be NSFW? ?

On a lesser note, I am thinking about doing a similar event only it would involve just earning trophies and not getting platinums per se, based off of the Alphabet challenge TrueTrophies posted a year ago, where you earn trophies to spell out a word or phrase. If anyone is interested, PM me. ;)
