S_y_n_e_IR_g_Y
Well i played on a 27" Monitor and sit really close to it when it comes to level 19. there were times when i just died in level 19 for one hour straight. And then there were times in which I managed the level 10 times in a row. My problem has always been that i jumped too fast or to slow, maybe it will help you to change your timing. Good luck anyway! It's now just a matter of Time, till you got that one lucky Run

Popular Post Arcesius
Hi there! I got my platinum about a month ago now, and I couldn’t be more grateful for all the discussions in this thread. There are very many nice and helpful tips that certainly saved me a lot of time going for the plat. So, I decided to join the forum and share some of the details that helped me get this game done But first, thanks for all the tips, all the videos and everything you guys have shared! There's probably not much I can contribute that hasn't been said yet or makes a level objectively easier, but I wanted to share my experience nonetheless. Some context for reference: When I got Zombie Boy (mostly with The Kid, Ogmo and Meat Boy), I decided to take a short break. I wanted to keep having fun with the game going for the last two trophies instead of forcing myself to simply get it done, since the game in my opinion is fantastic, and on the other hand I wanted to get rid of my muscle memory I had build up with The Kid. I came back a month later, and Girl Boy was surprisingly easy to do. I really think that not being used to The Kid really helped here. It took me about as long as Zombie Boy, 4 days and about 5h of practice to get this done. I wanted to do Impossible Boy immediately after.. but then Square Enix announced the server closures for FFXV Comrades ? Greeeat... So I went and got that done instead, and then finally started practicing my runs for Impossible Boy. It was the most difficult no-death run no doubt, I’m not sure why some think Zombie Boy, which in my opinion is on par with Girl Boy in terms of difficulty, is equally or more difficult, but ok. Nonetheless, it was still not as bad as I was expecting it to be. In total I spent a bit over a week on Impossible Boy, playing 1-2 h a day for a total of about 12-15 h and about 3000 deaths, cannot say for sure. And I’m confident that that time would have been double that if not for the amazing tips found and linked here. So add another 2-3h of "research", reading tips, watching speedruns for strategies, etc. So, let me start with some general details about how I approached this: Sessions of about 1h at a time, maximum 2h. Since I had only completed each level in Dark Cotton Alley once (for Suffragette), I started by replaying the world, then went to play each level individually until I got 3 wins in a row, then started practicing all the levels together. At the beginning of each session I’d play the levels in order 1 → 20 to practice all the levels equally. I kept switching up my level order for the real runs whenever I felt it necessary. During the first 5h or so, while I was still practicing the levels and getting a feeling for which levels were the hardest, I would also finish a run even after a death just to practice the run in its entirety. At some point I stopped doing this and would restart my runs each time I died. I needed some motivation.. and although I don’t really care for “milestones” all that much, I decided to make this my 40th platinum. This way, I had no choice but get it done ? Even if I was in a run that couldn't be successful (I had already died, for example), I still always "exited to map" to build up the reflexes to do so when needed in a more promising run! My Run: 1 – 6 – 8 – 9 – 19 – 20 – 10 – 11 – 12 – 13 – 14 – 15 – 16 – 18 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5 – 17 – 7 Some Tips on the individual levels: 7-1x: Ugh, this level.. I would often see other runs where this level would come super late and I would think that I might be missing something.. I could never do this level consistently. The way I see it, there are three significantly different ways of jumping over the saw-blade in the lower part of the level: Matte uses the second one in his speedruns, and otherwise I see the first method most often. I found the third method to be the most consistent for me personally since it gave me the most control over Bandage Girl, but I’d still die too often to put this level further in my run. So, I would just make sure to make it one of the first 4 levels. 7-2x: Easy level if not rushed. I would sprint to the first saw-blade and from that moment on only always tap and release and together to jump over the incoming saw-blades, while keeping the Run-Button (for me always ) pressed. 7-3x: Also a very easy level. I used the right-side-only strategy, there is not much I can say here that has not already been mentioned. 7-4x: Another easy level. I would stick to the left side with only one small jump to the right when reaching the first whole in the wall on the left, and for the final 3 jumps. 7-5x: Patience is key. I only jumped from one end of a room directly to the other end about 3 times during the level. For the other rooms, I would do a tiny jump to the middle platform and, while keeping the Run-button pressed, just keep your direction button pressed to land on safe ground. 7-6x: This level is actually pretty easy, but already being positioned a tiny bit off can kill you. Since it’s a short level, I just got it out of the way early.. 7-7x: Easiest level, no question. Problem is, what if you are one pixel off and die, ruining your entire run? Well, I think I found a guaranteed position with a visual clue that is very easy to spot. You know how sometimes Bandage Girl seems to “breathe”? She kinda gets a bit wider for a fraction of a second or so.. I made a GIF, and this is how the position looks like: I haven’t seen this setup elsewhere, but for me the visual clue is the dark bar on the right of Bandage Girl. If positioned correctly, the dark bar will be visible, but when Bandage Girl “breathes”, she will cover it. I don’t want to say that it’s 100% impossible to die positioned like this, but I never did and thus felt confident to leave this level for last. 7-8x: This level… it should be one of the easier ones, but I lost a couple of runs to it so I decided to put it in my first 4.. I just jump almost immediately after spawning to the right, and then wait for the larger gap so that I can jump back with only one landing. 7-9x: The famous Salt Shaker.. This seemed impossible at first, but instead of focusing Bandage Girl I started focusing the conveyor belt. After some practice I went from a 1/10 success to a 1/10 failure. This is all about feel, so just keep at it! 7-10x: Not much to say here. A missile level, but the missiles here are easily avoidable. Just don’t stick to walls while falling to the lower levels our you’ll get hit by one. 7-11x: There is a risky strategy here to jump over the saw-blades, but I never used it. The level just requires you to be quick, but there are no particularly challenging obstacles otherwise. The trickiest part is probably where the two saw-blades are going up and down, especially the first jump since the saw-blade will probably be on its way down when you reach this part, so you'll need to be precise. For the part with the three small saw-blades falling from the ceiling, I use a wall jump from the left wall aaaaall the way to the right. I know I’ll make it in time if I can position myself before the opening while the saw-blades are coming down. Otherwise the third saw-blade might kill you, so I'd just restart the level. 7-12x: There is not much to say about this level.. just be careful on the way back and take your time. 7-13x: One of my favorite levels.. why? Because it’s not that hard but still so fast that it looks spectacular and makes you feel like a bad-ass ? For me the first and last shortcuts were vital. I’d suggest to practice the first shortcut, as with enough practice you can get it pretty much every time. And even if not, there is plenty of time to “exit to map” before falling into the bleach. As for the rest of the level, I’ve seen different strategies for the first three jumps from left to right (and right to left), but I like to slide up the wall, jump over the saw-blade, and then just tap veeeeery shortly. This way you’ll hit all three platforms (even the smallest one) without the need to change directions mid-air. 7-14x: Ah, my nightmare. Or at least it used to be my nightmare-level, until I found a strategy that worked for me personally. So you’ll often read to go up to the top left (or top right, whatever you prefer) block, then release the sprint button and make you way to the key, then make it to the other side using the intermediate blocks. Well, that last part almost never worked for me. So, what I do is go up to the top left block, release the sprint button, jump to the next block and walk down to the platform. As soon as I touch the platform, I hold the sprint button and, as soon as I get the key, do a normal-to-long jump, still holding the sprint button. This way I wouldn’t land on the block, instead you’ll touch the wall below it. As soon as you do, simply perform a wall-jump to the block above. With this strategy I ended up getting this level pretty much every time. 7-15x: Immediately when the level starts go to the left, jump after 2 blocks to the wall, and get the key. When you now touch the ground there are two ways to get to the safe spot: You can slide up the right wall (this never worked for me, since I ended up being too slow and killed by a Maw), or you can perform a triple-jump, as shown in the picture: When you are in safety, just keep jumping up to avoid the Maws. I’d suggest you stay slightly off the wall, that way you only trigger one of them. 7-16x: Same as in the light world.. and one of the worst levels. There’s nothing I can say here but good luck.. 7-17x: Easiest level after 7-7x. The level looks intimidating, just find a pattern through the bullets that works for you and you’ll be able to execute this every time. 7-18x: Ugh. For me, there is no other way to get this level other than using the corral-strategy. I would go for the key early and then go about corralling the Oobs. Then it’s simply a matter of jumping over the group of Oobs just on the platform above the key until the way down is open. Or you can corral them first and get them out of the screen before grabbing the key, but I didn’t have the patience to do so ? 7-19x: This level… The worst part, as you all know, is the top part. I found that counting up to 7 was ok, but didn’t give me the consistency I needed. So I started not only counting my -presses, but also the releases, since they also make a sound on the controller. So count 1-and-2-and-3-and-4-and-5-and-6-and-7-and where the “and” falls on releasing the -button. This way there is more flow and the rhythm is easier to nail down. 7-20x: Same as in the light world. Since you’re most likely to die from the small saw-blades at the beginning, what I would do to not waist too much time is get them out of the way and, if successful, wait after the last small saw-blade before jumping down to the next floor for the big saw-blades coming down to pass Bandage Girl. Then you can take your time for the rest of the level. Otherwise you can also let the large saw-blades pass you after the first small saw-blade… But if you die immediately after that’s a waste of time. Well, that's it.. Feel free to ask away if there is something unclear.. And good luck! Edited December 10, 2019 by Arcesius

Huge Respect for all the work and time you put in your tips.I'm sure that will help one or the other on his way to the platinum. I would have been so happy about such good screenshots and detailed tips when I was going for impossible boy. ^^ I am very pleased that so many good people have reached platinum lately, which is a huge achievement from a trophy point of View and testifies to a great deal of patience and skill.Maybe one of you might have some motivational words for those who are going to try to get the platinum in the near future and think it would be impossible.

You'll never die. Thanks for this valuable tip! I was struggling a bit to understand and pass this one consistently until I read this. @S_y_n_e_IR_g_Y, thanks for taking the time to gather many of the resources into one thread, as well as creating an environment where other players can add to it. Reading some of your tips, especially for the stages that required characters outside of Meatboy and The Kid helped me a lot and made those stages trivial. Also, thanks to those who took the time to make all these helpful videos themselves, in particular the ones posted for the Impossible Boy trophy. When I approached my no death runs, my first step was to play each world again in order from 1-20. I also got a pen and paper out and after passing each stage and marked each one a number ranging from 1-3 for difficulty, 1 being "easy", 2 being "moderate" and 3 being "hard". Of course most of these stages won't become nearly as hard as they used to once you get them down, but this was mostly just a starting point on how to approach practicing these stages. From this point I would start practicing all the stages that were marked down a 3. After getting those down (or mostly getting those down) then I would go ahead and start trying doing all the hard ones in a row without dying (to get a little more practice in) on top of the moderate ones and the rest. This step was treated lightly since I would always expect to die on one of the moderate ones since these weren't really practiced. So next I would just go ahead and do all the moderate ones, and after getting those down, then start mastering all the easy ones. Then afterwards I would start my attempts on the full no-death runs still starting from the hard stages, to moderate, then to the easy ones. I would do a lot of switching around of some stages after a certain point because I would learn that some stages were actually harder (or easier) than I originally thought (or some stayed hard while others became easier). Another benefit of writing the stages completed down is so I won't lose track of knowing whether I did them or not. Here's an example of what I did: As you can see from my Dark Cotton Alley no-death run attempts, I was struggling to get past 9 stages in a row, but was struggling more often to get even more than a few in a row! I'll have to mention that not all my attempts were written down because I was following the same order on some of these before each switch up that kind of made writing them down again pointless. Fortunately for me I died only once after finally getting past my 9th stage in a row on my 16th stage on 7-5X (the order followed was identical to my winning run, circled in the top-right corner). For those I've read on that attempted these no death runs, whether it's on Dark Cotton Alley or even something easier like Dark Salt Factory, and got to your last few stages, or even worse, the very LAST stage then died, my heart goes out to you. As for some general tips, I guess I could try and elaborate on what worked for me. When practicing for these no death runs, what you want to do for each stage is create a specific route/path/routine to get to Bandage Girl (or Meatboy) and repeat this exact same strategy every single time until you got it. Follow it to a tee. Repeat it until it becomes second nature. Creating your route/path/routine to the goal involves knowing the layout of the stage, knowing exactly what and when to expect at each given moment when going through the stage. Know exactly when and how high/far to jump, exactly when to stop, exactly when and how far to run, how certain obstacles will rotate at a certain given time and how to react, how certain enemies and projectiles will come at you at a certain given time and how to react, etc. In other words, precision is of the utmost importance. Try and repeat these very same strategies and complete each stage for at least a minimum of 3x in a row without dying before moving on to another stage so you'll feel comfortable enough with these stages when doing your no-death runs. Feel free to go back and practice any stages that you haven't had a good grip on yet. This game is designed with hardly any random elements (with exceptions to certain stages that involve the Burnt Boys like 5-9X and stages that involve the Oobs like 7-18X that are both a bit more random) so it makes replicating the same strategy you've created much easier. Also, take full advantage of the 'return to map' or 'switch character' exploit whenever you're in immediate danger. Even use the exploit if you feel your character COULD be in danger due to a bad/sloppy run. It's better to be safe than sorry. While it's generally better to take your time with the stages you're able to, you may find it easier for certain stages to be speedrunned, whether it's doing it for the whole stage or only for a certain length of the stage. I know this was the case for me when I decided to speedrun all of 5-20X. Doing it this way made passing that last part with the small room of the mini-missiles with the circular blade scrolling at the bottom much easier, because I bypassed having to stop my character to judge the timing required for that last part since I treated every obstacle, platform and projectile in that stage like clockwork when rushing through. This very much relates back to finding that specific route/path/routine and internalizing it. This method will of course take some experimenting and practice too. Essentially, just keep practicing until each stage clicks really. Also, watch some of the videos available or read up on some of the valuable tips posted here and in the other SMB threads if you haven't already. These will definitely help you if you're stuck on how to do certain stages consistently and want a clear understanding on how to do them. Here's my stats and pic for the platinum trophy: I'm definitely not going to deny that this game is hard, but it may not be as hard as you think it is, and the only way to find out is to take the plunge and give it a go. In all honesty, it is very much doable with time and practice. Stages that intimidated you before when you first tried them and thought that you would never be able to pull off an iron man run in them, you'll surprise yourself when they end up being way more manageable than you think. Don't let the rarity percentage scare you off. This platinum is very much worth the effort it took. Good luck! ? Also, just in case if anyone is wondering, I've never had any prior history in playing this game, nor have I used an alt account to play this on.

Popular Post JxhanF
After dying on 15/20, 17/20 and 18/20 (to the damn SALT PILE in the end of 7-11x!) over the past week I finally got this one today, my 10th plat. The grind is over, I'm so relieved! My route: 1-2-6-8-9-13-14-19-20-15-16-17-18-10-11-12-3-4-5-7 Thanks to all the tips in this thread, they have been very helpful. Here is my rundown of the levels: 7-1x – Nothing to add that already haven't been said. It just takes practice and will always be a risky level. I did it the same way as Arcesus7 above. 7-2x – This was one of the hardest levels for me personally. I just can't keep a rhythm and I find it very physically exhausting, both with the controller and for my eyes to keep track of the sawblades. I absolutely despised it during my longer sessions, it almost made me physically ill. I ended up always going in chunks of 4-10 jumps with directions before doing a vertical jump to regain control of my position relative to the sawblades. 7-3x – One of the easiest. I went with the jump sequence 4-2-2 on the right side and it was very consistent. 7-4x – Even easier. I went with 1 jump on the left side – wait for incoming sawblade – jump over it and jump up on platform – jump over to the right side and back quickly to the higher left wall. Then 1 jump – 1 jump over the sawblade – 1 more jump up to the platform. Then wait until it's clear and jump to Meat Boy. 7-5x – I died to this one on my 17/20 run but it's not hard. Just take it easy, only do guaranteed jumps. I find the small jumps to the middle platform with max speed the easiest so you end up on the lower platform on the other side. Remember to not rush it, you have all the time in the world. 7-6x – This one is fairly easy but it's easy to make mistakes like slipping, going too slow or jumping too high. Practice it regularly and do it early in the run since it's a quick one. 7-7x – Magic pixel. 100% guaranteed with Arcesus7 technique above. Massive thanks for that gif! 7-8x - I jumped immediately to the right side, then waited for the bigger gap before jumping back. I only used 1 jump in the end. I jumped exactly when the red dude in between the "fence" and the pillar. This one became fairly consistent in the end. 7-9x – Always stop at the bottom before going up the conveyor belt – you can do this by going direction-less when descending to the bottom platform. This will make you much more consistent at this level. 7-10x – Easy level but takes some practice. The only tricky bit is the one in the middle where you have to remove a block which a rocket launcher behind you. You have to find a consistent sequence of jumps that works every time, but basically you just make sure they don't fire at the same time and you switch side when the rockets approaches. The very last middle bit you can do just by running, no more dodging required (as incorrectly stated in some Youtube guides). 7-11x – I jumped over the chasing sawblades and doing so was almost 100% consistent for me. Jump over the wall, run immediately to the right wall, jump/slide up max height then down approximately 1 block, then jump back over the sawblade. After that it's a very easy level. Still though, it killed me on my 18/20 run due to my weak nerves. My hands were trembling and i ran straight into the salt pile in the end. It was devastating. 7-12x – 3rd easiest level for me. No special tricks needed, just go slow and carefully. 7-13x – Fairly easy level in isolation but I found it hard to do later in the runs when you get nervous. There are many opportunities for mistakes. Takes a lot of practice. I used both the top and the bottom shortcuts and used very small directionless jumps to launch from the walls on the first three levels, followed by enough run+direction to reach the middle platform. 7-14x – I used Arcesus7 technique above and got about a 66% consistency with it. I highly recommend practicing the level that way. 7-15x – I used esstee11 tip to go high on the left side and low on the right side and had 100% consistency with it. Thanks for that one! I always ended the level by running to Meat Boy — not jumping as it posed unnecessary risk. 7-16x – Always a risky level, but I rarely died to it. Just take it easy and practice using your momentum. I always passed the saw blades by building up some up and downward momentum, then moving from the left to the right side under the sawblade in one clean motion. Quit to map and reset every time you feel something is "off". I re-did this one maybe 5 or 6 times every run. 7-17x – This is the 2nd easiest. Just look up a routine from some speedrun or Impossible Boy run, copy it and practice the timing. Works 100% of the time. 7-18x – I almost never died to this one. I corralled them and flung them off screen. You just have to take your time and quit to map/reset if you can't group them up properly. 7-19x – This one became easy and consistent for me when I started dividing the top (walking part) into two parts. I did 3 or 4 jumps first, then stopped and repositioned. Then the last few jumps. 1/10 times you won't be fast enough but you'll make up for it in spades by not dying on the last few sawblades. 7-20x – Very annoying and risky level due to its length. You can do the trick to get behind the approaching sawblades but I found that to be waste of time. I speedran this to be more consistent but I still died fairly often here. I found 1 / 2 / 6 / 8 / 9 / 13 / 14 / 20 to be the harder levels and I always did these first. I kept shuffling the order around to keep things fresh. In general I would, just like many others in this thread, recommend shorter playing sessions of 30 to 90 mins. If you play longer you run the risk of getting frustrated and sloppy, and sometimes it's hard to notice that yourself. I played 6 hours straight in the beginning and made no progress. It was only when I started to incorporate breaks that I got beyond 3 or 4 levels in a row. I'd also recommend playing without music or with something calming. I used some ambient mixes from youtube to keep me from tilting. All in all, read through this thread before you get serious about grinding this out and you can be confident you know most of the better techniques, tips and tricks available. There's not much out there that hasn't been said here already, I found. Again, thanks to everyone for contributing. Now I'm gonna celebrate with a beer or six. It feels really good doesn’t it, not that I want to put myself through that torture again for awhile! I was thinking I’d never get it, could only play an hour a day the last few weeks cos I was getting frustrated. I had encouragement from a guy on this site which helped me not to quit. A really tough game but very rewarding. Enjoy your beers and looking at the trophy pop lol I know I did ?
Arcesius
Congrats @JxhanF! I'm happy if some of my tips could help And I had forgotten to write about "playing with music", but I definitely did that too and agree with you that it really can help! Just maybe not with 7-19x when trying to get the rhythm for the sawblades ?
Theladozz
Sorry if this has been answered before, but how does this game check the consecutiveness of the levels? For example if I died on lvl 20 a few times then did it and proceeded to do 1-19 w/o dying and not returning to the map or title ever, would the no death trophy pop or do I need to like reset the counter whenever I die by returning to the map/title or something? Another example if I did 1-10, died on 11, then did 11 does the counter start again there, so if I did 12-20 after that and went back and do 1-10 again would the trophy pop? So basically do I ever need to manually exit to the map or title or can I just play consecutively until I get the 20 in a row in whatever combination it happens without ever exiting? No need to exit to the menu when you die. In the second example the answer is yes, the trophy would pop. You can play consecutively without exiting!
