Yakuza 3 has officially arrived on the PS4! Completely remastered in 1080P, running at 60 frames-per-second with PS4 PRO enhancements!

This thread will contain video archives of my Twitch livestreams (fully translated and narrated) along with guides on how to complete substories, hitman missions and more.

CHAPTER 1: A New Beginning
January 2007 - After the fierce struggle for supremacy against the Kansai Omi Alliance and Ryuji Goda's Go Ryu Clan, Detective Kaoru Sayama and Kazuma Kiryu go their separate ways....

Kiryu and Haruka pursue a new dream: run an orphanage in the tropical shores of Okinawa.

Kiryu and Haruka return to Kamurocho to say their goodbyes to Stardust Host Yuya and Stardust Club owner, Kazuki who is currently recovering from his injuries.

However, there is one person Kiryu has to meet before he leaves for Okinawa...The Mad Dog...Goro Majima.

1st impressions:

1) REJOICE! The infamous Answer x Answer arcade minigame in Club SEGA Kamurocho has been cut from the Remastered edition. I'm not too sure why but I guess quiz games aren't as popular as pachinko machines these days or perhaps SEGA doesn't support Answer x Answer. The 'Pro Gamer'/プロゲーマー trophy now requires the player to catch 10 prizes from the UFO Catcher and obtain a score of 1,000,000 in Boxelios just like the Western release. Answer x Answer was a trivia arcade game - steeped in Japanese culture, food, travel, history etc

2) The game looks outstanding. Despite the fact its using the upgraded Kenzan engine (2008), the game looks just as good as Kiwami 1. You'll notice Kamurocho in particular is a lot more populated than its PS3 counterpart. It'll be a lot easier to obtain the 'Runaway Train'/暴走機関車 trophy where you have to run over a 100 pedestrians.

3) There are some minor audio bugs which I'm sure will be ironed out at some point: When Kiryu starts walking there's more than four footsteps sounds is an example (it wasn't like that in the original).

4) Cinematics run in glorious 60 frames per second.

5) Reminisce of Yakuza & Yakuza 2 seems to be missing. I'm not sure why SEGA decided to remove the Reminisce scenes of the original two titles but they did.

Words to Know:
"ojisan"/おじさん: Japanese honorable term for "uncle"; "mister". Haruka refers to Kiryu as "ojisan" / "Uncle Kaz"

"Oniisan"/ お兄さん: "Older Brother". Since Goro Majima is four years older than Kiryu, Kiryu refers to Majima as "Majima-oniisan"/" Majima-san"

If you have any questions, I'll try to answer.

Thanks for your impressions!

Maybe they cut it because it makes localization to other territories easier? If it was cut for the PS3 release, there won't be any translation scripts for it.

That may also be a possibility. In fact RGG 3 remastered was localized in Simplified Chinese and Korean.

I hope it comes to the west soon and Sega continues with the PC releases of the series after Kiwami. :)

Given that Yakuza 0 and Kiwami 1 were well received (and is currently in the PlayStation Hits value) there's a good chance we'll see localized remasters in the West. They haven't announced anything beyond Fist of The North Star Lost Paradise or Kiwami 2's release. We'll see what happens...

CHAPTER 2: The Meeting
Kiryu and Haruka retreat to Okinawa, where Kiryu takes ownership of Morning Glory (Asago), an orphanage housing nine other children.

However, in March 2008

The local Ryudo Family sends two men to intimidate the orphanage. Morning Glory receives an eviction notice. Haruka and the orphans are worried they have to leave their home. Kiryu vows to track down the Ryudo Family and learn why Morning Glory Orphanage is being evicted.

1st impressions:
The Eco-Friendly/エコ・マスター trophy exploit from the original Yakuza 3 doesn't seem to work in the Remastered game. In the exploit, you have to go to the beach, pick up garbage and go back to the hideout. Rinse and repeat to regenerate garbage on the shore. Doesn't seem to work anymore.

Words to Know:

"Aniki" / 兄貴 : a Japanese honorable term for an older brother or superior. Mikio refers to Rikiya as "Aniki".

"Habu"(波布) / Viper/ Venomous Snake: a Japanese name used to refer to venomous snakes. Rikiya takes great pride in his "Habu" tattoo which represents the soul of Okinawa.

"Oyaji" (親父): Though the original meaning of "oyaji" is "father," it sometimes implies an elderly man or a head of a group. Rikiya and Mikio refer to Nakahara as "oyaji"

"Goya" / bitter melon: Green, bumpy, cucumber-shaped vegetable. You can find an abundance of goya in the produce section of any Japanese supermarket.

"Chanpuru" / チャンプルー: Okinawa's trademark dish. Stir fry dish with bitter melon, tofu, egg, fish and/or meat (pork belly).

CHAPTER 3: Substories

Before we proceed with the main plot of the game, Chapter 3 is the first chapter in Yakuza 3 Remastered that has Substories (Side Quests) and Side Activities (Karaoke, Gambling, Golf, Darts, Pool, etc).

The moment the chapter starts, you can clear most/all substories. You may want to hold off the Hostess Clubs for the time being since you'll need a lot of ¥. Earning money is easy: Complete Substories, Fulfil the Hitman Contracts, gamble and compete in Underground Purgatory Coliseum tournaments.

However, we won't have access to most of these features until much later on. Substories can be found by simply interacting with pedestrians or by strolling around town.

Completing them will reward Kiryu with Experience Points and money.   I completed some of the substories that were absent in the Western PS3 release.

Break Ace Trophy achieved at 53:28

CHAPTER 3: Power Struggle/Invasion of Authority PART 1

After watching a news report about the Okinawa Resort Deal, Kiryu learns from Haruka that Shiro is feeling down after coming home from school.

It turns out Shiro is being bullied at school by his teacher’s son, Yoshinori.

Kiryu learns the city congressman, Akasaka (an acquaintance of Mr Hashimoto, Shiro’s teacher) is behind why Shiro is keeping quiet about being bullied.

By complete coincidence, Kiryu meets Akasaka at the Nanyou Country Club and they both have a casual game of golf…

Later, Kiryu overhears an argument between Taichi and Ayako.

Ayako cannot pay back the money borrowed from Taichi because it was stolen from her wallet…

never knew that Majima-san is older than kiryu until now, though from how they looks, kiryu looks older.

Yes. Kiryu refers to him as "Majima-onisan" as a respectful way. Despite being older, Majima still has admiration for Kiryu because of his strength and refers to Kiryu as "Kiryu-chan" generally used by girls/women.

Due to personal emergency, my mini-guide for Yakuza 3 Remastered is on hold until further notice.

Unsho Ishizuka, who voiced Tetsuo Tamashiro in Yakuza 3 and Yoshida Toyo in Ryu ga Gotoku Ishin passed away recently. This coverage is dedicated to this prolific Japanese voice actor.

CHAPTER 3 PART 2: Power Struggle, Tetsuo Tamashiro

Rikiya of the Ryudo Family stops by the orphanage and asks Kiryu a favor.

Nakahara’s adopted daughter, Saki is missing. As a result, Nakahara is ballistic.

Rikiya adores Kiryu’s strength and courage and starts calling him “Aniki”/“Brother”.

In an act of valor, Kiryu offers to help Nakahara find Saki.

Later, Kiryu and Rikiya learn that Saki was seen in Hatsumachi with a woman who might be her estranged mother.

Kiryu and Rikiya have a skirmish with the Tamashiro Family in Hatsumachi.

After finding Saki’s sketchbook in front of the Tamashiro Family Office, Kiryu enters the hideout alone…

TIMESTAMPS:

BOSS 3 Tetsuo Tamashiro: 49:37

Words to Know:

“Sakazuki” / “盃” /“oath” : The sakazuki is a truce that forms a bond of loyalty between yakuza. Although Kiryu is no longer a yakuza, Nakahara still insists they form an oath of brotherhood.

“Kyodai”/ “兄弟” / “Brother” : a word consisting of one kanji meaning "elder brother" and another meaning "younger brother." Nakahara refers to Kiryu as “kyodai” and vice versa.

By completing all three of Yonashiro’s weapons training, Kiryu will receive a certificate which will allow him to purchase Nunchaku, Tonfa and Kali Sticks at Kamiyama’s Weapons Shop.

Incidentally, if Kiryu acquires various weapons crafting materials and weapons crafting dossier, he can forge his own unique weapons.

One year later in March 2009

Bewildered by Saki’s sketch of the late Shintaro Kazama, Kiryu receives a distressing phone call from Osamu Kashiwagi (Second patriarch of the Kazama Family) that Daigo Dojima (Sixth Chairman of the Tojo Clan) was shot.

To make matters worse, Daigo was shot by a gunman who allegedly was the spitting image of Shintaro Kazama. The Morning Glory Orphanage land deed is stolen.

Kiryu decides to return to Kamurocho to uncover the truth behind his foster father, Shintaro Kazama, claim the land deed and ameliorate the current situation of the Tojo Clan.

As of late October, there have been three patches released for Yakuza 3 Remastered. The most recent is 1.03 which fixes miscellaneous bugs (nothing too descriptive if you check the Update History). The bugs that still remain since launch are some audio issues whenever Kiryu starts walking, there are four footstep sounds as opposed to two. When he walks up and down the stairs, there's only one footstep sound not synced to the walking animation.
