damon8r351
Assassin's Creed Odyssey takes place during the Peloponnesian War, an interesting moment in history in that Athens and Sparta beat each other into irrelevance, opening the door for the rise of Macedon and eventually introducing the world to Alexander. If you like how Assassin's Creed makes characters out of real historical figures, let me introduce you to Athenian Steel and Spartan Beast, both by P. K. Lentz. This is full on alternate history set during the Peloponnesian War, where a time travelling starship pilot allies herself with the Athenians and sets out to screw up the outcome of the war for reasons that eventually become clear. All the major players are there: Demosthenes, Alkibiades, Brasidas. There's a lot of detailed and accurate historical fiction set during the same time period and those are good too, but these two books were the most fun I had reading in a long time.
