Welcome back for another exciting edition of the Kill Your Completion series. This is the 8th iteration, so most of you probably have an idea of what goes on here, but if you are new to the site or this corner of the forums, here's the previous edition of the thread. KYC 7

 

 

Those of you that participated in or followed the last event, know by now that Hemiak won't be running this event for a while due to life being busy. He agreed that I'd take over in the meanwhile, so you're stuck with me for the foreseeable future.

Now what does that mean for the event? Well, pretty much everything stays the same. I'll be largely copy-pasting the OP from the previous iterations, while essentially adding a TL;DR version at the bottom. I'm also inclined to cap the maximum number of games at 15 (which was kind of already a thing to begin with). That's pretty much it though.

 

 

The Premise
Participants will each choose a list of 5, 10, or 15 0% games from their backlog and post them here so everyone can follow along. These games don't have to be pre loaded on your profile, as long as you own them already and haven't earned a trophy they count. Participants will start a new game from that list every couple days for the next month. o.O They WILL then post their thoughts on each game, and write a short review on the final day for each game. This can take any shape or form each person desires.

 

I would prefer people do 5 games for 6 days each, 10/3, or 15/2, but if you have a valid reason for only being able to do 8 or 12 games, that would be acceptable. I would like if people could be a little more prompt with their reviews. I understand stuff comes up. However, if every single review is three games rolled into one, 4 days late, you're not trying very hard.  I also like to see people get the minimum 3 hours per game, so I feel like more than 15 games would be cutting each one too short, I don't really care if you have no life and can do 5 hours every day.

Post your list of the games YOU ALREADY OWN that you haven't started.
Post your completion percent for S&G.

Game Selection Suggestions
These are just suggestions, this will have no bearing on you being added to the event. These are just things that I think make for a more interesting selection of games overall.
- Variety is The Spice...: Try to avoid having more than 1 or 2 of the same type of game on there.
- Try Something New or Different - A list filled with AAA games/remasters that you've already played, from only two different series, is boring.
- Don't choose all games that all have average completion times under 10 hours: You're not fooling anybody. Sneaky participant is not sneaky.

 

 

TL;DR

Spoiler

• pick 5, 10 or 15 games that are at 0% and play them during the respective amount of days 6/3/2
• don't pick only short and easy games, that's not the point of this even.
• post your list of games
• each game should be played for at least 3 hours total
• write a review/impression/thoughts on the game you played, before moving on to the next one (final review is mandatory, regular updates are optional)
• If you don't want to miss the start of the event, follow the thread.

So, this list is gonna be a weird one since I'm running out of games. Also, it technically wouldn't even be eligible since there's only gonna be three unstarted games with two games that I've earned a trophy in but that I played for less than an hour. I'd totally understand it if you didn't count me as an official participant, but you sure can't keep me from playing along and leaving reviews  (unless you get me banned or politely ask for me to go away ). Since I'll be incredibly busy during November due to a staggering amount of exams as well as two separate language certificate written and oral exams, it's gonna be better this way anyways since I'll be able to schedule the bonus games during busier times than my actual games.

 

• Jak 3 (PSVita) 
  Quite a boring choice but probably one of the better games on the list. At least I'll be able to have an accurate comparison between the Vita and PS3 versions.
• Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines (PSVita)
  Bought this because of @zettlock's review in a previous KYC thread. Let's see how I feel about it.
• Hungry Giraffe (PSVita)
  A 55+ hour grind for the 100% of something that looks like a mobile game port. I already know I'm gonna hate this.

• Toukiden: The Age of Demons (PSVita) [Already killed my completion]
  One of the first games I got for the Vita and I ended up just trying it out for a couple minutes and going for FFX instead.
• Resogun (PSVita) [Already killed my completion]
  Played one game and instantly thought to my self: "That's really not my kind of game, why the hell did I buy this?". Who knows, maybe I'll end up liking it if I play it some more.

I've been wondering, why is it that you always keep changing your PSNP identity? Are you a secret agent? I literally didn't recognize you under your current alias.

Okay, so, I think I have a list.

 

What I'm going to attempt this KYC∞ is something different: do a list of ten games - five regular, five VR - and do non-VR and VR next to each other, so one non-VR game and one VR game every six days. This is because I want to put dome more focus on VR games, yet these games are shorter and I can't play them for long each day so I'll need something alongside them to play.

It has nothing to do with an identity crisis, I just like changing things up from time to time

I'm in! I was waiting for this to come!

 

I'm only going to choose 5 games since I won't play that much in November but I am eager to try and have a first look at some games I have.

 

From the 4th of November to the 11th of November I'm going on holidays meaning I'm probably not gaming at all (I don't know if I'm going to take my Vita along or not).

 

Plus, during weekdays I've been barely playing, only during weekends if I'm not busy or hanging out with friends. Still, I will do an effort (and I believe I can do it) and try at least 5 games. If some reason I manage to get more, like 8, I'll make an update, but I'll stick with 5 for now.

 

The 5 games I am choosing are (I might change but if I change they will be changed before the start of the event):

... Getting 100%s, like in the Gaming By The Numbers event, really isn't the main goal of the Kill Your Own Completion event (hense, the title). The point is trying out some backlog games (which need to have zero trophies before the start of the event), and to also post stats (mainly how much your percentage has dropped during the event) and post reviews of the games you've played. Might be that you'd 100% the games afterwards or occasionally even during, but the games should at all times be at 0% at the start of the event (it's the first TL;DR rule).

... How can a game lower your completion during the event if you've got two trophies in it already? Your completion percentage can only rise from that.

 

Don't try to make it about other people raising hell. The OP to all KYC events state that any game on your list should have zero trophies beforehand, that's just the basic rules. You don't go into completionist events saying "I'm at 60% for this game but I count it as having the platinum because I don't want to do the multiplayer trophies" either.

I've updated my original post with my new list. I was tempted to make it a 10 game list but I'll just end up failing my exams that way.  

I might do some quick changes once the November Plus games are announced.

I bought this on X360 on release and on Switch on a good sale, and it felt cool that I got it on PS4 through PS+, already played the main levels. I'll keep an eye out for your review! Beware, the gameplay is pretty slow.

As Billy said, only games at 0% are supposed to be part of the event. As such Battlefront can't be part of it, I'm afraid. You can however adjust the days you'll spend playing each game across the other 4 games you listed, while playing Battlefront on the side. Like whenever you feel like you need a break from the other games.

 

For the number of games I'm going to be lenient, as long as it's under the 15 cap, as that's how the prior iterations of this event worked as well for the most part.

Great. I guess we should plan this after the November games are announced, then.  

 

Judging from your reaction back then, there are few things that could ruin your day as much as that game did, so I'd say the chances are in your favor.

Since I'll be getting most of my playtime on train rides, I appreciate slower gameplay.  I could imagine playing something like Gravity Rush on a train is fairly difficult, although it worked alright with Jak 2. I'm really looking forward to this game, though as I haven't played any puzzle games in quite a while.

I'm in. I'll get my list posted in the coming days once I figure it out. I've managed to recover %-wise from the last event even if I still have another 100 more unearned trophies so it's time to beat my CR back into submission again.

I will be joining this time as well. I was on the fence the last time but I am going to commit to the ten games the coming month. 

 

I have decided to alternate between my vita and PS4 collection. So without further ado, also note they may not be played in this exact order.

Yeah, if there's a game I've been more annoyed by during a KYC event than TorqueL, I can't recall it right now.

I played the first original on PS2 and Vita. Still have play 2 & 3 though. Also played Deadlocked/Gladiator for the PS2. I liked it. It seems the PS4 one is very similar to the first one, so I will be able to compare both the original and the new version.

Good to see, that we already have 10 people signed up. Some interesting selections of games as well.

 

I'm still debating whether I'll go with 5 or 10 games. Maybe I'll just pick a number in-between. There's still time to decide after all.

I am in!!!!

That's 7 of 8 KYC events for me. This time, I'll run at the full 10-game tilt. I need to do some serious cleaning up on my PS3 so I'll have a good 4-5 titles from that.  Plus, there's some games I picked up in sales that I've been itching to start. I'll come out with a full list next week.

 

I also got Toogied!! My son got free rein to play on the PS4 the other day, and he stumbled across MLB: The Show and started it up without my knowledge. Somehow, he managed to earn two trophies so it's sitting on my profile with a big, fat E tho I have never played it. ? 

I had planned to save it for this event so VooDoo, I'm asking for a favor/ ruling. Can I include this game even though it has trophies earned? I have yet to play it so my first impressions won't change.

And! My son now has his OWN Playstation account.   ?

@Kassandra interesting pick of VR games. I'm curious to see what you think of SUPERHOT which seems to be a favorite of many VR owners, and I'm also interested in your thoughts on Esper and Tethered since I've been thinking about grabbing them myself once the backlog dies down.

 

Unfortunately, November is a busy month for me as I have my 3rd exam on the 16th of November. The only way I could join is if I played 5 games in the second half of November which would be hard with Thanksgiving squeezed in there and the quick turnaround for my final exam (Thank God once I finally pass all of these!). I guess I'll have to shoot for the KYC IT'S OVER 9000! event.

 

Anyways, I won't be participating, but I'll be with you in spirit. Good luck to all!
