Yeah, the rest of the company didn't find the joke funny since it could be construed as the Ku Klux Klan in the US

...so that happened because of the USA's contextual racism on its own people? Oh c'mon, don't punish the rest of the world for it. Not everyone even know what the KKK is. It's like trying to ban beef burgers in the USA because it's culturally offensive in India.

Well since Xseed is based in the USA and is an American company it makes sense.

Yeah, but isn't the point of the "joke" to play off of KKK? I mean, if it was just a choice of letters, I don't see why he would be bothered by ACQ (it's just random, after all).

From what I gather here, the joke requires knowledge of the KKK to have any meaning. If I'm misreading this, let me know.

If there's no teeth behind a rating system, there's no reason to have it to begin with.

I see rating systems as just an advisory.  That's all they need to be, really.  Putting the law behind one is an example of government overreach.  I can understand having to show ID to buy a game, but I want it to be retailer policy & nothing to do with the government butting in.

What's ALoY?

That's the Ancient Land of Ys forum.  I lurked there occasionally, but now I've forgotten about it.  It's been pretty dead recently.

The whole rating system exists because the government was about to butt in regulating the industry

Mortal Kombat, Night Trap, & Lethal Enforcers led to politicians forcing the creation of the ESRB.  Lieberman didn't quite exactly understand LE... in that game you're playing an undercover cop, not a rival gangster. In the arcade version, criminals use derogatory slang for police officers in their taunts like "You can't kill me, copper!" & "You missed me pig!" which got cut from the SNES/Sega releases.  Also, it should've been obvious to him when the game docks a life for hitting an innocent bystander & your police rank is shown after a stage (if you've been hitting too many innocents, it's demotion time!).

Listen to Howard Lincoln of Nintendo bitch about Sega & their violent games. After that his company ended up jumping off their "holier than thou" platform & allowing an uncut MK II on their SNES a year later.

Bill White had the right idea that games are not just for children.

Sony is to blame for Sony's policy. However, Sony's policy is not what Tom has been against for all these years.

I really mistrust those who think the 'under-age' argument is justified. Take a look at histories tyrants who were against gay rights to overzealous religious legislation - it's these types who hide the darkness they claim to fight against.

People who play games with an arbitrary number attached to pixels, rationalising it as a piece of fictional entertainment and not an application for reality, are of healthier mind.

You can apply a similar analogy to killing in video games. Murder is really really wrong. Now imagine someone coming in saying all killing in video games should be censored because they believe a person will become a murderer. This argument derives that this pro-censorship advocate would become a murderer if he kept playing something like *Doom* or *Uncharted 4: A Thief's End* - they would never make this argument if they  had the psychological capacity to understand that the pixel violence is all arbitrary.

Whoever is behind this from Sony's HQ in California, thinking they are righteous in this censorship - I mistrust them as a member of society. They hide something within themselves, a repressed-persona they are unwilling to confront. Carl Jung would chuckle in their faces.

I don't really care for the politics within XSEED.

However, I do care that their departure will have a wanton effect on the translations of future Ys games. Speaking of the two, I know of Tom. I believe he was involved in translating the remake of Ys III, along with Nightwolve, who has a grudge against him. That's all I remember.

"a grudge"

Let's say it's one of the most retarded dramas i've ever seen in more than a decade.

Oh? I want to know.

Go to Ys Utopia and start reading the posts from the bottom of page 6, i.e. the Butt-Pirate List of the post immediatly after that. And the worst part is that when you linked that site on other sites like GameFAQs it would automatically redirect to gay porn websites. I was banned without knowing it because of that. I'm absolutely not joking.

EDIT: and of course the post above mine lol.

I used to read about it eight years ago; however, I no longer remember it well due to my lack of emotional investment and bad memory.

Still, no loss. Got better things to worry about, lol.

Man, I thought I was a bad person for holding a grudge against someone for so long, but this man is a total legend. I can't beat him in his hatred crusade.

...god, what the hell is wrong with this dude.

Seriously, Nightwolve's attitude towards Xseed is way out of line. All they did was buy Deuce's translated scripts for Ys Oath in Felghana & Chronicles.  Nightwolve did write a program to help Deuce extract the text, but that was it.  The TL work was all by Deuce.

Before Xseed bought the script, Nightwolve decided to require donations to get the patch (that's a questionable decision).  When one donor released that patch for free, he went batshit, which drove that rift between him & Deuce.  If the 2 were still on good terms, just maybe Deuce might have thought of him & paid him a modest cut of the profit?
