Cryogenicide_X
I'm sort of undecided on the matter myself, I've tried both. I think gaming in a dark room does make gaming more immersive. However, it is also at the same time more harsh on your eyes so can lead to eye strain, headaches etc.. I guess gaming in a brightly lit room is the "healthiest" way in terms of your eyes. So what's your preference?
Wuthg21
I think the best thing to do is to put a light behind the screen, i never tried it but i read that this will help with most problems.
Oobedoob S Benubi
Dark room, with the screen not extremely bright. It's also how I watch my movies and shows, and how I read (my e-reader has "natural" light, as in an orange glow that's easy on the eyes).
Cobby
I game in a dark, empty room, cos it matches my dark, empty soul.
Cryogenicide_X
Even though whether you do gaming in the light or dark is a preference kind of thing, people do seem to be more for gaming in a dark room. Even from all the things I've read elsewhere it seems to be the same thing, more for gaming in a dark room.
eigen-space
I have to do it in a well-lit room otherwise I get headaches. Same with any other types of screentime. Makes actually going to movies difficult
Phlegeth
I've been keeping the lights on more and more. Sometimes I keep them off for atmosphere. I always keep the light on the next room though.
EternalChaos72
I usually play in a very well lit room. Bad for the eyes if your playing in darkness.
knoef_NL
Darker than the depths of hell?
KingGuy420
This actually came up for me recently. I gamed in the dark for most of my life. Then I thought "I wonder why I always have a headache and my eyes feel weird?". So I set out to figure out why, not even thinking it was gaming in the dark. Then a friend pointed that glaring fact out to me so I hooked up a lamp lol. I've definitely felt better ever since.
Dav9834
Both! Don't have a choice because of a high ceiling and large window 10' up that doesn't have shades. Which kinda sucks because psvr is way better in the dark, so for optimal virtual reality I have to wait till sundown. But if I had a preference, I think it still would be both. Asvinia
Both, but typically with the lights on. If I have an hour or so to myself at night and I'm really enjoying a game I'll turn the lights off and play, but it's not often. I'll flick the lights off around Halloween, and at Christmas when everyone's gone to bed I'll flick the lights off, play some games and eat the Christmas leftovers. My favourite time of year. Redgrave
Mainly in the dark because I don't like to have the lights on until a certain time and the ceiling light makes an annoying reflection on the screen that might get in the way.
Feral
Mostly well-lit to try and keep the headaches at bay, not that it's a guarantee. Although atm with RDR2 I'm always playing in the dark.
beebachewie720
Well lit room. I especially like to game when it is sunny out and the windows are open. Not sure what it is, but it makes me really happy ?
Dangisuckatgamin
In the dark. However, if I think a spider or bug is moving around the room you can beat your ass I'm turning the light back on and not gaming in the dark for a few hours LOL

I remember killing those big scorpion enemies in FFXV and went to the bathroom not five minutes later to find one just waiting for me... stomped that bastard just like I did his virtual brothers but definitely felt "tingly" for a couple days after
MidnightDragon
During the day, I use natural daylight for my room. At night, it just depends. Sometimes I play with the light on, sometimes in the dark.
WhiteDragonAura
Well-lit, always. I always feel like the room starts spinning if it's too dark.
Fubuki
Dark of course! Makes the picture look better.
Dreakon13
Dark makes things on screen easier to see, and since gaming is very much so about following movements on screen closely... dark tends to be better. Not to mention it adds to the movie-like atmosphere of cinematic games, and the spooky atmosphere of horror games. That being said, I game in the living room and have the lights on most of the time. Unless I feel I should for atmospheric/immersive reasons. My eyes/head thanks me. Edited November 5, 2018 by Dreakon13
starcrunch061
I go well-lit. I'm older, and have great eyesight. I want to keep it that way.
RevengeancePrime
My gaming room is located in a naturally well-lit area, but I leave the lights off during the night, which leads to me generally gaming in a dark room. I'll probably install some kind of backlight because playing for long hours in the night puts quite a bit of strain on my eyes.
