I will say that in regards to Twisted Metal I believe it is one of the games where boosting is completely justified, because hosting your own lobbies was the guaranteed way to avoid trophies glitching. After some time, I'm sure randoms never joined your hosted lobbies, or if they did then they were probably veterans of the game who wouldn't allow you to make any progress. If you could join any lobby on the game, it would be more fair to be salty about people who boost, because at least the trophies would be doable at any time without worrying about a glitch.

Some of the most toxic people I've met belong to the trophy hunting community, but from what I saw on Twisted Metal, it's the people who blocked boosts who started the beef with trophy hunters. There are plenty of videos of them making fun of trophy hunters who just started the game and were boosting it and losing matches against them. Trophy hunters didn't have an impact on their game, since you wouldn't have even been in the top 1000 on the leaderboards if all you did was accumulate the stats required for the trophies.

Their blocking was indiscriminate and against people who never provoked them, I would say anyone who sent hate mail to a blocker was asking for more, but I played with a bunch of people who got targeted by blockers when they never messaged the person who was blocking them. One of the blockers even kept blocking a guy until he paid them $20 to stop doing it... The people who were boosting the game were doing it in their own lobby and not affecting any of the stats for the game, the trophies for the game unlocked by fulfilling the requirements and there's no special tag on a trophy to say they did it without boosting.

I will agree wholeheartedly with the bolded. However, that doesn't mean I accept the attitude/actions of the anti-boosters - but the few games I played back in October with specific members of the Trophy Hunting community was really poor. Crass attitudes, rude actions, some literally telling people to "fuck outta here" for hoping to play a normal game. Honestly this feels more like a cause-effect than just a random "trolling" attempt.

It is one of the reasons I try to not to play too many MP games these days as I have had far too many toxic encounters through boosting.

Damned shame how much of a waste this game managed to be. For all the money that went into it and how much server issues must've hurt sales, it would've been well worth the effort to patch them up a bit, but no, let's just nerf a couple things, then leave all our hard work to fester and rot in the public eye. The core gameplay is pretty fun imo (I still occasionally load it up for bot matches), but at this point, seeing the servers finally put out of their misery makes me feel more relief than anything.

The whole debacle between last minute trophy hunters and session saboteurs comes off to me as a culmination of both groups' rather justified frustrations. For what was once a beloved franchise to many of us, the final state of TM has been nothing short of offensive, not only to fans but the product itself. It became an obstacle to its own enjoyment, and I can't truly be angry with the reasoning behind either side here.

Except the developer of course. Jaffe should change his name to Gaffe, that's all he is anymore.

I completely agree that Sony must require games to be fixed if this kind of stuff occurs. It is the developer’s responsibility to make sure we don’t play broken games. Also, given the fact that Jaffe had forever to push patches through, this is a real shame. I am glad I got the platinum, but sorry Jaffe, I am selling the game on the second hand market. No profit for you buddy!

I might be able to offer a little insight from the other side of the perspective on the "loyal players vs boosters" debate. Before I ever tried boosting, I figured the only way to get the trophies was to play legitimately. This was before the boosters flooded the servers and the server closing announcement.

It was really difficult to get a game started. That was because no one was on the same page, ever. People would create their own lobbies, and one or two people would join, they'd wait for awhile, and then try another lobby. Rinse and repeat. No one ever got matched. They seemed to not learn how to get a game started by cooperating with one another. If they would have all joined together, they'd have enough players to play for hours.

So when these loyal players see full sessions, they jump in ready to play. I don't think most of them were trying to ruin boosters' games. They were just trying to play as they always did and saw large lobbies with plenty of players.

I self-boosting with myself, and other players were quick to join. None of them were aware I was boosting because using bots on extra consoles was a common way to get a game started. Reminder, this was before most of the boosters came in after the server closing announcement.

I know there are videos of Twisted Metal booster busting, but there isn't enough evidence to suggest those people are the same ones still playing until the end.

I can’t say it’s a platinum I’m proud to have. The game’s toxic community at the last minute was joining the remaining trophy hunters frequently just to sabotage their lobbies, what a great way to have people remember the community who wasted their time playing this game.

I never encountered that problem. Was the game full of trolls?

I remember when I helped some friends for trophies, some idiot jump in the game and wouldnt leave, he was going for alts that didnt move at all, like 6 alts, and I was just there to speed up their process. That guy was going for them like there was no tomorrow, he raised his kills and ratings to the max and after all that he said his making a video to show how he is busting the boosters. Great job chum  ? and he was not that great player. Most of them were like that, poor skill, but boosters were a godsend to them it seams so they would rank high with other really skilled players.
