It's actually 1 of my top 10 ps3 games, the game is pretty neat with interesting level designs and combat style. But if you're having a hard time you could always buy the DLC - there is a dress called flesh maiden which allows you to activate hysteria form (similar to devil form in DMC) any time you want - along with upgrades to your existing weapons. Speaking of trophies don't worry it's very straight forward and most importantly it has no STUPID ONLINE/MP trophies so you don't have worry about that.
