Questions for speed run

Completed my first play through on normal earlier. I did watch a video on a speedrun but they also didn't use any items except for what they pick up. What I did want to know is this....

 

So I know about the 3 medkits and 3 chest uses. But because I unlocked the Albert gun, when I do the birthday cake scene and have to use the chest for the second time, is this when you're first able to get to use the Albert? The vid I saw was done in 2hrs, but he was awesome and skipped loads of stuff. I will aim for 3.5hrs as I might not be as good at dodging but also I want to use that frikkin Albert gun

I know this is an old post but yes, 3 chest uses are mandatory, it is absolutely essential, you have to use it twice to put items away and get them back again for that birthday puzzle. Then when you gain control of Ethan again later, you need to get all his stuff back. It is basically use a chest 0 times but you can of course get access to your best weapons near the end of the game.
