Serious question: What is implied when the phrase “the West” is used in this context? Does that just mean “in English”?

English and probably Also it isn't currently coming to Europe. Just North America as of now.

The western release will be using Microsoft's azure servers, so I don't expect it to come to ps4

Microsoft and Sony have teamed up and such. As Microsoft has allowed Sony to use their Azure technology https://news.microsoft.com/2019/05/16/sony-and-microsoft-to-explore-strategic-partnership/ Also I feel like if it was exclusive to Xbox One, Microsoft would have made a much bigger deal out of it. But I am not going to hold my breath if it doesn't come out on PS4.

1)  PSO2 is currently only coming to Xbox One and PC. No credible sources seem to be confirming anything about a western PS4 release.

2)  PSO2 is only coming to Xbox One and PC in NA initially. Release in Europe isn't out of the question, but isn't confirmed for now.

Really excited for this. I'll be playing on it X1 it seems until a PS4 release is confirmed.

The Dualshockers article I posted in my edited version of my post notes that it's an exclusive deal with Microsoft and Sega. So I don't see it coming to the PS4 in the West.

I find it highly unlikely the PS4 doesn't get it when the first console the game was released for was the PS4 in the first place. It's probably a timed exclusive.

Damn, only Xbox. Would have been soo cool if SEGA was bringing it to the PS4 and PS Vita with Cross-Play / Cross-Save support like the Japanese have...

I am a Phantasy Star Online Player since PSO on Dreamcast. Why SEGA doesn't bring this game to the West, not only to one Country (USA_Canada)? Why not? I would buy it.

In the long run I'll believe it when I see it appear officially. If it does come to PS4 than I want to get it on day one since just like how another has mentioned. I too, have played Phantasy Star Online games back on dreamcast an loved their games. Was very disappointed to see none of the sony side of things; beside I think one on PSP which I did play.

Phil Spencer said it's coming to all platforms.

Thanks for this. This article only became available today; at the time of my comment there was nothing credible to state that PSO2 was coming to anything but Xbox/PC in the west
