It took them 4 years to finish Episode 1. I'd say it's gonna take at least 2, probably 3 years before we see Episode 2. Beyond that it's anybody's guess. According to Kitase, they haven't even decided how many episodes they want to make.

It sounds like a money milker which could go horribly wrong. If those really were the gaps between releases, then the gaming audience would change so much, age and all other things that I reckon sales would get crippled at some point. I also don't see the point in releasing anything on PS4 if thats the case as for save reasons alone it would make carrying over a total mess into a new console.

Also. I know they have added new story sections, but nothing too major to take away from the original, that all the original and current FFVII fans are getting is new mechanics/combat styles, so to drag an already known story could also have a negative effect.

But its all speculation for now. It could be that each episode is around 50 hours or so and gives enough content to warrant the episodic releases. Guess we will see. But Japanese publishers have a bad habit of holding on to stuff for way too long that when they do eventually release them, they never live up to the hype.

It looks really good!

It's going to be interesting to see if the will release alot of DLC as they did for Final Fantasy 15.
I think the same concept could work quite good, a DLC for each character. The Final Fantasy 7 characters are so much more interesting and than the Final Fantasy 15 ones.
People have a bigger connection with Final Fantasy 7 gang!

New details and tons of new screenshots are available. I will just put some images as to avoid having people scrolling too much on this thread.

For many longtime PlayStation fans, the original Final Fantasy VII was a groundbreaking, genre-defining experience. We’re naturally eager to learn more about the fully reimagined Final Fantasy VII Remake, which dramatically updates both the gameplay and the storytelling of the beloved original.

So when we received this latest batch of screens we asked our friends at Square Enix if they could provide some context for a few of them. Take a peek at the captions below these screenshots, then browse the full gallery below.

Each weapon has its own unique weapon abilities that increase in proficiency the more they are used. When an ability’s proficiency level reaches the maximum, that ability is then learned by the wielder and can be used when wielding any weapon.

Here we see Cloud’s Buster Sword upgrade screen. The different options allow you to improve the wielder’s status or increase the number of Materia slots available.

Classic Mode can be activated by selecting “CLASSIC” from the difficulty menu. In Classic Mode, party members will act automatically, with the ATB gauge filling up as they do so. In this mode, the player only needs to select which abilities, magic, and items they will use their ATB charges for. This brings the feel of the gameplay closer to the menu-based battles from the original FFVII but with the amazing immersive graphics of the remake.

It is also possible to revert to direct control at any time during Classic Mode by pushing buttons on the controller.

The triangle button activates each character’s unique ability. Cloud’s unique ability is to switch between different fighting styles. He can switch between “Operator Mode” which has a good balance between attack and defense, and “Punisher Mode” [pictured] which is geared heavily towards offense. In Punisher Mode, Cloud’s movement speed is reduced, but his basic square button attacks are upgraded to even mightier blows.

Chocobo & Moogle use their special move “Stampede” to run down the enemy with a herd of chocobos.

While equipping Summon Materia, you will be able to summon a powerful ally once the special summon gauge fills up. Summons will fight alongside you automatically on the battlefield, but you can also use your own ATB charges to have them perform special abilities. Just before they leave the fight, your ally will unleash a powerful special move!

Assess – Materia that allows you to use the Assess ability. When you use Assess on an enemy, you can see their resistances and weaknesses, making it easier to defeat them in battle.

New interview with multiple developers: https://square-enix-games.com/en_GB/news/final-fantasy-vii-remake-developers

Here's something Tetsuya Nomura says:

With regard to new characters, of whom I said during past interviews that there would be “none” – though they aren’t main characters, their numbers ended up growing considerably in the process of creating a rich depiction of Midgar. When you think of Midgar’s final boss, you probably think of the M.O.T.O.R., but in this game new bosses will appear and add to the excitement of the story even more.

So this may be alluding that the final boss of Midgar might not be Motor? Unless there is a mistranslation? ?

More Information (Credit to IGN UK):

Final Fantasy 7 Remake director Tetsuya Nomura has said that Square Enix has "already begun working on" the next part of the episodic remake of his RPG classic.

In a Square Enix blog to accompany a batch of new screenshots of the game, Nomura sought to quell fears that splitting the original game into distinct chunks would make it a much smaller experience:

"Opportunities for discussing our true intentions are few, but with regard to the size of the game that many are asking about – there’s no reason at all to worry. Even in this Midgar portion alone, the density and volume are so great that I had to give directions to lighten them.

With regard to new characters, of whom I said during past interviews that there would be 'none' – though they aren’t main characters, their numbers ended up growing considerably in the process of creating a rich depiction of Midgar. When you think of Midgar’s final boss, you probably think of the M.O.T.O.R., but in this game new bosses will appear and add to the excitement of the story even more."

It s a reiteration of the team's promise that each episode of 7 Remake will be the size of a full game. However, Nomura added a juicy extra detail at the end of his post:

"We’ve already begun working on the next one as well, but I’m confident that playing through this title will expand your expectations just like the world that extends beyond Midgar."

It's not clear if Nomura means that Part 2 is in active development, or pre-production – we've contacted Square Enix for comment.

Elsewhere in the post, other new details pop up from various members of the team. Story and scenario writer Kazushige Nojima expresses a combined worry and excitement for how the game's newfound good looks will change how original character perceive it:

"The original game used cartoon-like, stylised art, and the story was completed by players using their imagination to supplement portions that couldn’t be depicted as a result. Even if they were seeing the same scene, the information they took away from it and how they interpreted it differed depending on the viewer. Perhaps it’s what might be considered a narrative form of storytelling nowadays.

"In Final Fantasy VII Remake, there will be much less room for player imagination. This fact will probably change the feel of the story considerably. People who know the original might not know quite how to take it. Such is the fear that I have. But I also have conviction. It should be possible to feel a much deeper connection to Cloud as you join alongside him."

Co-director of scenario design, Motomu Toriyama also confirms a much-asked question - the scene in which Cloud dresses up to get into the Honey-Bee Inn has made it into the remake:

"When remaking the Honey-Bee Inn at the Wall Market, we revived it is as a pantheon of entertainment, which couldn’t be realized back then. Here, the scene that many of you have been eager to see, where Cloud disguises himself. Please enjoy.”

There are still la lot of questions to be answered – which is why we think the game's developers need to better explain the big plan – but we're getting a clearer and clearer idea of what this game will actually be. For more, check out the game's box art, the details of its Classic Mode battle option, and how there are no plans for an Xbox version.

How do you guys think this game will be structured? I mean, will each part be its own game with a Platinum trophy? Or do you think the first part (the one that will be released March 3) will be some sort of base game with a Platinum trophy, with the later parts being added as DLC trophies? This would be odd, because then you'll earn the Platinum before finishing the game's story.

Or will it be structured like Hitman 2, where there won't even be a Platinum, because parts are being added continuously over a long period of time?

Character close-ups

Here’s a look at some of the key figures from the FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE, including a legend, Shinra’s top brass, and a character who’s entirely new!

Sephiroth

Sephiroth is famed as the finest member of Shinra’s elite SOLDIER unit. His gallant efforts in the war with Wutai made him a hero - and he’s inspired many a brave youth to join SOLDIER.

Sephiroth is believed to have died during a top secret mission, but there may be far more to the story than people know…

Final-Fantasy-VII-R_20191216_01.jpg

President Shinra

The current president of the Shinra Electric Power Company raised the company up from a small arms manufacturer to the massively powerful conglomerate it is today.

He can be generous to his allies, but when it comes to business he’s utterly ruthless. He’s willing to use cutthroat business tactics to make a profit - and eliminate anyone who gets in the way.

Final-Fantasy-VII-R_20191216_08.jpg

Heidegger

As well as being the director of Public Security, Heidegger has been President Shinra’s right-hand man since the early days of the company. He’s just as ruthless as his boss, and will do anything to get what he wants - even sacrifice his own subordinates.

He’s trusted implicitly by the President, and this has made Public Security the most powerful department within Shinra.

Final-Fantasy-VII-R_20191216_09.jpg

Roche

This 3-C SOLDIER turned rebel is also known as Speed Demon.

He loves bikes, speed and anyone who can give him a challenge. His comrades, however, find him annoying - he constantly squeals his rear tire and makes them choke on fumes of burnt rubber.

Final-Fantasy-VII-R_20191216_10.jpg

Aerith in battle

These next screenshots demonstrate how Aerith fights. A press of the square button will make her launch a ranged magic attack.

By pressing square in repeatedly, or holding the button, successive attacks can be unleashed. In addition, the number of targets hit will increase, and attacks will cover a wider area.

Final-Fantasy-VII-R_20191216_04.jpg

By pressing the Triangle button, Aerith will unleash her unique ability - Tempest.

Final-Fantasy-VII-R_20191216_12.jpg

You can also charge the attack by holding the Triangle button - at maximum charge it will explode repeatedly after it hits an enemy.

Final-Fantasy-VII-R_20191216_11.jpg

Aerith - unique abilities

‘Soul Drain’ lets Aerith absorb MP from a foe. As she specializes in magic attacks, using this skill will be a necessity in tough fights.

Final-Fantasy-VII-R_20191216_13.jpg

Lustrous Shield’ allows Aerith to summon a magical barrier, which will keep enemies at bay and block projectiles. What’s more, any attackers who come into contact with the shield will take damage.

Final-Fantasy-VII-R_20191216_14.jpg

Shiva - a very cool Summon

Characters in FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE can use Summon Materia - orbs let them summon an intensely powerful ally into the fight.

The Queen of Ice Shiva is one such Summon. This frosty figure gives an icy glare to enemies and a loving smile to allies. She skates around the battlefield, and manipulates the air to freeze enemies in the blink of an eye.

Once summoned, Shiva will fight automatically, but you can also issue commands to make her use specific abilities. Heavenly Strike creates a giant glacier and smashes it down onto an opponent!

Final-Fantasy-VII-R_20191216_17.jpg

Summons are governed by a special gauge - when it’s empty they’ll disappear... but just before they leave, they’ll deliver an especially powerful move.

In Shiva’s case, it’s Diamond Dust - a move fans of the original FINAL FANTASY VII may remember. Shiva encases enemies in ice and then shatters them in spectacular fashion:

Final-Fantasy-VII-R_20191216_18.jpg

The Train Graveyard

FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE takes many locations from the original game, and redesigns and reinterprets them to add additional depth.

The story is more detailed too, with more dialogue, story sequences and a greater portrayal of citizens’ lives.

The Train Graveyard is a perfect example of this. Originally used during the construction of Midgar, this area has since become a junkyard for old and abandoned trains. Strong winds make the rusting carriages creak and groan, and odd high-pitched sounds echo over the area.

Final-Fantasy-VII-R_20191216_15.jpg

You may remember this location from the original FINAL FANTASY VII. In that game, there was no dialogue here, but in FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE, characters will talk to each other as they explore the maze of wreckage.

Final-Fantasy-VII-R_20191216_16.jpg

The new game also adds a new story into this area, with multiple event scenes:

Final-Fantasy-VII-R_20191216_05.jpg

The Shinra Building

Here’s a look at another area of the game. The headquarters of the Shinra Electric Power Company is a 70-story skyscraper in the center of Midgar.

Final-Fantasy-VII-R_20191216_19.jpg

Up on the upper levels you’ll find the offices of President Shinra and the directors, and a Memorial Floor, where you can learn all about the history of Shinra.

Alternatively, head to the Visual Entertainment Hall where you can see the latest technology being demonstrated.

Of course, the first thing you’ll see is the expansive entrance:

Final-Fantasy-VII-R_20191216_20.jpg

Inside the building, you can take a look at some of the Shinra cars on display:

Final-Fantasy-VII-R_20191216_21.jpg

Or to unwind, why not head up to the Relaxation Floor?

A Demo huh? I'm not really surprised honestly.

I was contemplating streaming it but then I would have to stop what I'm currently playing to do it and I don't know how long it would take (I also don't seem to do well without guides and I want to explore)

I'm not saying I won't play it. I'm still trying to decide honestly. If I do decide to play it though... I'll likely just play it on my own and post my thoughts on it in this thread I guess.
