Death end re;Quest 2 Announced (Update 8)

IMO, DERQ became CH's finest self-contained product. (Haven't yet played Varnir, mind.) This extends to the plot; as such, I am /highly/ curious if 2 will expand on Shina's realm - be it her Earth, or World's Odyssey - or introduce a new backdrop. I somewhat expect the latter. Also hope as a personal preference it resists the urge to lean too heavily into torture porn w/ events...

But yeah! Surprised, for sure, yet I am down! ^^ Nice to see Compa's broadening.

Ahhh, I'm so happy to hear that! Death end re;quest is such a great game with a gorgeous art design! Hope the second game will be as good as the first one!

My only concern is sonys censorship. Mary Skelter 2 didn't make it to PS4 in any way after the censor problems, so hopefully they don't prevent DerQ2 to get a PS4 release ?

It's rather interesting to see Compile Heart branching out and building up their newer original IP. I really liked Death End Re;Quest, but I do have to say that it surprised me - pleasantly - that we are getting DERQ2 before a new mainline Neptunia installment. It's almost as if Neptunia has fizzled out a little?

New info courtesy of a Gematsu update: https://gematsu.com/2019/07/death-end-request-2-announced-for-ps4

  • The game takes place in a fictional, South-east European town called Liz Soara.
  • The three main characters are living in a women's dormitory; their names are Mai Touyama, Rotten Dollheart (okay...?), and Liliana Piata.
  • There's much more of a focus on occult horror than in the first game. The main plot centres around mysterious disappearances in the dormitory.
  • The first game's heroine Shina Ninomiya returns, as well as Lydia Nolan and Summer Life. You don't need knowledge of the first game's plot in order to enjoy the second one, however.
  • There's a "sense of realism" to the game design, whatever that means.

Added to the original post. So glad there are returning characters. I would have like to have seen others as well, but I think they'll keep that as a surprise!

Another news bite, chief takeaways below: https://www.siliconera.com/2019/08/28/death-end-request-2-details-whats-new-for-the-battle-system/

  • "Gridge" style activates under curse contamination & confers cheat-esque powerups
  • Same combat setup confirmed: trio party turn-based/speed-order
  • Few spoiler-y morsels under the bullets
Spoiler

Yurisa, Hinata, Kaede, Svetlana, and Chloe - aka, the RL controllers of Lily, Al, Clea, Lucil, and Celica - "are expected to" return. They'd join Shina to complete DERQ's cast of 6 real-world players.

The phrasing for viable connection between curses and cheats makes me wonder which ending the sequel shall follow, especially in terms of the fusion of World's Odyssey with reality and the future purpose for Ludens. Shina's ending presumed likeliest, but I wouldn't put it past CH to speedball past any tenuous continuity. Here's hoping for clarity and cohesion.

JPN release date = 13th of February, 2020.

Since the first DERQ took several months to localize, I'd optimistically peg the sequel Q3 2020 for the West.

Literally read this a second before coming here to post. Thank you for your support :)

Sure thing, you are welcome! My SO and I each consider DERQ a top 5 contender for 2019, and the sequel handily ought to become a Day One pickup~ :) Here's to hoping Compile's expanded efforts beyond HDN pay off.

(Heyyy, I spy that edit - you chaps invented the language, handle with care :P)

I got too excited and hammered the keys. Hoping the Iffy store LE also gets posters.

See edit for new info

tidbit from site. Shina Figure: Pre order link: https://www.play-asia.com/death-end-request-17-scale-pre-painted-figure-shina-ninomiya/13/70d4uh

  Reveal hidden contents

Death end re; Quest "Shino Ninomiya": 01

Yes, I audibly gasped when I spotted that Shina figure a couple days ago, and I subsequently actually preordered her yesterday from Play-Asia! (Thank goodness for steady full-time income.) I never would have dreamed a non-Neptunian CH figurine would produce anytime soon, but her existence pleases the heck out of me nonetheless. :) You a collector or interested at all?

Also, the new info sounds as though the trio of gals have endured much, geez.... I really hope for timely moments of levity and camaraderie between all the struggles. DERQ 1 largely pulled off that balance.
