Popular Post TheYuriG
Been having a discussion about competition (and why people shouldn't be competitive, unless they all accept on the same rules) on my discord server and thought this topic could be expanded to more people. Do note that every rule i post below define how I, TheYuriG, trophy hunt and none of you should follow them, unless you want to. I'm not here to tell you what is right and what is wrong in trophy hunting and neither should you. -you must always 100% every game, unless when impossible by forces bigger than yourself. not wanting to invest time is not a force bigger than yourself. shutdowns and unreleased content are -you must always complete every stack of a game, unless it has too many stacks and DLC (this exception is made exclusively for monetary reasons. in a world of free content, this exception wouldn't exist socialism speedrun any% when). Chariot and Evil Within are examples of this -you must not stick to few genres. play everything -you should prioritize games with higher skill ceiling over the rest. easy games are boring, moderate games are dull, hard games are challenging and therefore meaningful to complete -you should boost every game, unless you don't care about the trophies for said game and/or such trophies are fast enough to complete alone that it's easier to do so than to organize a group for it -you should avoid games that are constantly being updated, because if new trophies are added later, you will have to relearn how to play the game again, which is a major waste of time -you should never get carried or have anyone else other than yourself earning trophies for you, unless the method for doing so is avaiable for literally everyone else, no exceptions (infamous 2 UGC missions fit in the exceptions, although I didn't use them) -you must never pay for any sort of microtransactions that will reduce/shorten required time/effort to complete a game. if you can't earn naturally, you shouldn't use it. no boosters/shortcuts/timesavers are allowed -you must always earn the platinum trophy as the last trophy in every game that one avaiable -you should always share found strategies for trophies, when you assume people don't know about such strategies. if you don't, you will have an edge over other people, which makes the competition unfair, and therefore, void -you must always complete every game of a series in sequence, back to back, when possible to do so. playing other games while not completing them is allowed (see wolfenstein, uncharted PS4, Mirror's Edge, etc) -you should avoid starting a game and then abandoning it, for the same reason as the 'constant update' rule. relearning games is not good. start, persist, succeed -you must always play the game blind, without following any walkthroughs or guides. collectible guides should be avoided on the first run, unless doing so will increase a lot the required time to complete the game -you will never start an impossible game, since that will break rule 1 -you will always have a quick glance at the trophy guide before playing, in order to be able to measure how blindly you will be able to play such game Some of these rules I've failed on purpose recently, like PVZ GW2 (I was aiming for fastest Brazilian achiever for the plat and got it) and Shovel Knight (I didn't want to play the other chars and then go back for the speedrun, plus the King DLC will be released later and the plat wouldn't be the last trophy anyway). I use them as major guidance when deciding what I'm going to play though. What rules do you people set to yourselves? Let me know, I'm curious how other people set their own rules and therefore their goals. Kinda like feel this is a necessary discussion since there are so many people unhappy about how leaderboards works, but because they set their own personal rules (like mine above) and somehow expect others to guess and follow such rules. That's not how it works, the only rule is "don't get caught hacking". Everything else is allowed. Edited July 18, 2019 by TheYuriG added 2 more rules
Popular Post ResoluteRock
• Aim to 100% every game, unless I want to blow my brains out at the very thought of a game. If I get burnt out, put it down and return in a couple of months to finish out the 100%. • Be the only one on my account who earns the trophies. Any trophies earned by a stranger, even if I fulfill the requirements at a later date, feels strange and like the trophy isn’t truly part of my collection since the time stamp reflects not my achievement of it, but someone else’s. • No microtransactions. Just no. • No super EZPZ platinum trophy games. My only exception would be if the game looks fun to me and it happens to have an easy platinum. So far, not many EZPZ games look enjoyable to me. An exception to this is Aer. I’ve been loving this game so far, and I’m taking it slow and just enjoying the aesthetics and enjoying the flight. Spent half an hour throwing my character around the sky islands by transforming from bird back to human ? • Boosting is okay. As long as I’m fulfilling the requirements, I have no problem working with like-minded players to get a specific task done. • No rubber banding / turbo controllers. If there’s a grindy trophy, I want to be there every step of the way. Like with Rocket League’s 500km trophy, I want to have driven all 500km by myself. Not 250km by me and 250km by my sweet rubberband. • Play any kind of game, regardless of the skill level. Even if I don’t think I’ll get 100% if the game is hardcore, I’ll get as close as I can realistically get. Sometimes I might surprise myself and actually get the 100%. • Limit any Day 1 purchases, partially due to any game breaking / trophy breaking bugs shortly after release. I’ll only buy a game Day 1 if it looks exceptionally fun to me and I can’t wait a few months for the inevitable sale. • I’m okay with being carried, as long as I contributed in some way still. I don’t want to win 100 multiplayer matches where I literally wasn’t present, but I’m okay winning 100 multiplayer matches even if I had a 0.5 K/D. Every little bit counts.
Minebwi
Hola I have just seen that 1500+ Ultra rares you have and what a good topic from someone that experienced . Hi from Australia me am a casual platinum hunter and my only rules are having fun and always do a blind playthrough with no guides. The 7th rule about only you earning the trophies also is Important . My friend finished 3 telltale games for me.But I had platinumed the games before
ShadeSplit
My master plan is simple. I attempt to earn every trophy, at least until I feel I've done all that I can. I'll never use any microtransactions, nor allow anyone else to use my account. I also try to limit games that are easy, as it does become boring.

Popular Post Matto_lsi
My rules aren't really rules and they aren't as clearly defined as yours. For me, I 100% when I am able (like if I get a complete or GOTY edition, so I have access to all DLC). I do not buy digitally, so therefore I do not buy DLC. I have been fortunate enough to get codes for certain things along the way, but mostly I only play DLC when it comes with my version of the game, or I get it for free. It hasn't really held me back as I have a 95% completion rate on this site, so I'm obviously doing 'most' of what I can anyway. The one absolute requirement is I MUST get platinum or 100%, if the game doesn't have a plat. So far I have done this for every game I've played (and I've played well over 200 on Playstation platforms). I see the plat as the true marker of completion, and it's one of the many reasons I abandoned xbox many years ago. Other than that, I actively avoid games with unobtainable trophies or really difficult/competitive MPs (as I'm not into MP anyway). To hit on a couple of your points, I never pay for micro-transactions (goes hand in hand with the no digital buys philosophy), and while I try to play games in series order, it's not an absolute requirement (though I have rarely deviated from this practice). Considering certain situations, like I played the original Uncharted games before they were released on PS4 where I played them again, it was kind of impossible to play both stacks in series order (1st game twice, on both consoles, then second game twice on both consoles, etc). I did wait and play the remasters on PS4 before I played 4 and LL though The only other thing worth mentioning is I always start off trying to reach a spot on the leaderboard. Since I tend to play mainly from a backlog, that rules out top 50 1st completions, so I usually only try to reach the top 50 fastest completion times. I almost always fail this, but on shorter games I have made it to the top 5 and top 10 a few times. I'm even 1st for a couple games! That's surprising because I've been 1st before, but then someone basically cheats their way to 1st (they get all the trophies organically, don't sync, then load their saves on another console or delete their account and reload it and simply load their saves to get really fast completion times), so I've been knocked down a spot of two for some games. Sometimes I just get beat by someone faster, but it's a real kick in the teeth when every top time is 6-7 hours then someone magically gets a 1-2 hour completion time that is technically impossible. I don't have a problem with save scumming, but not syncing just to re-earn the trophies from chapter select for fast times is pretty shady. If I think of anything else, I'll edit the post with a big 'Edit' heading.
Popular Post Fr_0zt
-Aim for 100% always but know when to throw the towel to BS such as UC2-4, Wolf2, NFS2015, etc.... the shit I'm missing. -Don't stack, that's for trophy whores. -Stay away from games that are clearly designed to be "plat per hour" and predate on our hobby. -Never have anyone else unlock a trophy for you. -Play at your own pace and have fun! Don't stress about rank, amount, speed, etc of trophies/ profile. It'll ruin the experience and end up killing the hunt. I think that's all. ? The point is to be real and never fall into the trophy whore category.... that shit looks bad and sad. Edited July 18, 2019 by Fr_0zt

Popular Post Hiyo_Rain
For me, I do not want to have a second account to play things I don’t want to trophy hunt and know it’ll be hard to “come back from” the fact that I also don’t want to start over on a new account (as I have tons of games on my profile under 10% from back in high school). Instead, I don’t allow myself to think my profile is “bad” for only having 50% completion and rather choose to think of it as being a history of my gaming experience on my preferred system brand. With that said: - No hiding games, to keep my “gaming history” as I call it true for others to see. I allow myself to delete 0%s until I’m ready to give them another try, but that’s it. To note, I don’t have any issues with others hiding things, it just goes against my personal philosophy for this. - Try to get as many trophies as possible for a game. If the plat/100% will be unobtainable or it’s not possible for me personally, oh well. I’ll do my best. - Farming/boosting/being carried are fine, as it’s just what happens sometimes in online games. Try to do it alone, but don’t turn down free help. I help others if I’m able to, following this same logic. - No region stacking. Too expensive, and more work to trick the system than I’m willing to bother with. I will only system stack games I adore and am happy to play again. - I prefer physical copies because of collecting purposes or reselling games I won’t replay, so only buy digitally if there’s no physical copy. I’m willing to pay a little more for Limited Run copies or games that are hard to find most of the time. That said, I take full advantage of my plus membership when stuff I’m interested in show up. If I like it enough afterwards I’ll just buy a physical copy used for collecting purposes.
Popular Post FilmFanatic
I always aim for 100% in a game. If I know a game will be frustratingly hard then I’ll go after every trophy I can. For example Vanquish and Prototype. If I put in the time/effort I probably could plat them but the time and frustration it would cost isn’t worth it (currently). As an add on to the above rule I will always 100% a game even if I don’t like it once I’ve played it for a while. A recent example would be Red Dead Redemption 2. RDR is my favourite game so I was really looking forward to RDR2 and got it day one. Unfortunately I didn’t like it very much and the MP was truly awful and one of the worst grinds I’ve experienced. However I still platted it (took me ~250 hours) and my final thoughts are that while what Rockstar had achieved was amazing, the single player campaign didn’t compare to the first game (however coming back to replay missions for gold medals was more fun knowing how the story ultimately unfolded in the end). I only play games I’m interested in or think I’ll be interested in. For example, I don’t like sports games so I won’t play them. If I own a game including having it in my library from PS+ I must play it. This can be a tough one as I have Teslagrad from PS+ but I don’t like platformers so I don’t want to play it. If there’s one rule that another rule would supersede then it’s this one. Other examples would be Grid Autosport. I like racing games but there’s a big online grind (that I should be able to do solo with 2 PS3s) and I’m not interested in doing that since it was a free game therefore not playing it won’t be losing me anything. I will always boost MP trophies. While I have had fun with MP in some games (Modern Warfare 2, Killzone Shadowfall) I really have no interest in PvP. The quicker I can get them done the better. I’m currently playing AC IV: Black Flag and I got all but one MP trophy done before I started the single player campaign (thankfully most of the MP stuff can be done solo or without much effort). I always mix and match game types and game length. If I play a 100+ hour game then I’ll follow it up with a couple of shorter games. While I still have a PS3 backlog I’ll play a PS3 game then a few PS4 games. I also mix up genres so I’m not playing a bunch of RPGs (for example) in a row. If a game has DLC I will always try to make the final trophy the platinum. I never buy DLC at full price and if a game I want to buy will have DLC released then I’ll wait till all DLC is released or if I buy the base game first then I won’t play it till all DLC is available. Episodic games will also played once the entire game is out. Not this has ever really been an issue but I’ll always play a series in order of release since that’s the order the developer intended them to be played in. I only play one game at a time. I start a game and I 100% it (unless I have to go to my first rule) before moving onto the next one. I won’t play trophy whoring games. My definition of a trophy whoring game is when a game or trophy list is very very easy and short but more importantly it’s a low quality game. For example I have played Cat Quest. It’s quick and easy but it’s a lot of fun and I’ve yet to see anyone say otherwise. There may be other rules I’ve forgotten but these are the main ones.
Feral
These aren't really rules just things I see as either a waste of money or just a pathetic thing to do so I don't do them: Microtransactions, stacking and cheating. Upendo_Vitani
I'm trying to implement more rules for enjoying myself: - keep joining events that force me to start new games regardless of completion but - take some time every two months or so to clean up - don't be afraid to try something new - don't ever put the trophy list first; if I want to play a game, I will play it - no stacks; I want to play more games not the same ones over again - prioritize PS4 over PS3/vita versions of games because I'm scared of having to replace the consoles if they crap out on me - try to start games that I actually feel like playing (though lately that's been tough and haven't had much motivation to stick to one game) - no wasting money on those EZPZ garbage games. I have a few easier games on my list that I genuinely enjoyed but I will not whore my list out - don't buy games just because the characters are cute!!! Seriously And no. 1 rule: - if it feels like a chore, don't force it. Take a break until the next clean up. Games are supposed to be fun Edited July 18, 2019 by Upendo_Vitani
You
I don't have any particular rules, well now that I am middle aged, I have a few - Easy games for easy trophies is usually fine but never play shit games for easy trophies - I'm middle aged so my time to game has been drastically reduced, if I can't play it at my leisure then I avoid it. I might want years to play through the game. that have any online trophies or ones tied to a server that could potentially make 100% gone forever when said servers close (Hi there Burnout PS3) - Avoid games that drip feed DLC constantly, I want to finish a game when I decide too (Hi there Killing Floor 2) Edited July 18, 2019 by enaysoft
TrophyChief
Good list. Some I agree and others I don’t, but that’s expected with setting personal rules/boundaries around trophy hunting. I consider myself a tenacious and persistent trophy hunter and aspiring completionist. I applaud and recognize others achievements and milestones. I strive to build strong relationships and practice trophy hunting etiquette when boosting MP trophies. I remain positive in online forums and chats with others. This is all with the goal of having fun, finding personal satisfaction and meeting new people who are like minded. The community keeps me motivated. Thanks for opening the discussion.
Cassylvania
I consider a game's value. I look at the price, the reviews, the difficulty, and how long to platinum, and I try to determine if it's worth my time. A game like XCOM 2, which is extremely good, extremely hard, and extremely long is definitely worth the $60 price tag. (It's almost criminal that it was free on PS+ last year.) A game like Star Wars Battlefront, which got mixed reviews and doesn't really appeal to me because of the multiplayer aspect, is not. Poorly-made games that give out easy platinums have no value. Beyond that, though... I dunno. I play games that I think I'll like. If it's a series, I usually try to start at the beginning, but sometimes I'll jump to the newest game if it looks the most polished. I like to have only one active game at a time (and maybe 1-2 more in the trophy clean-up stage). I don't stack. I like a blind playthrough first (unless it's going to ruin my enjoyment of the game). Boosting is my preferred way of dealing with multiplayer. Mostly, I just like to take my time. I'm usually done with a game by the time I get the platinum, and I like to be able to look back and say it was worth it. StandSilent
The only rule with regards to trophy hunting I have is to get at least 1 platinum a month. Outside of that I just try to have fun while playing games, no microtransactions, boosting if required, definitely rubber-banding if required. I don't really prioritise games. Just play about 3 at a time and if I don't like one I drop it.

Popular Post Arcesius
I only really have four rules... Only play games you are genuinely interested in. Whenever applicable, do a blind playthrough first, only reading up on potential missables. Get 100% on every game. No cheating, no external software, no shareplay, no bullshit. I believe that the first point could be made more explicit.. I will never play a game for trophies only. On the other hand, I will never avoid a game due to its difficulty or lenght if I'm interested in said game. I'm aware that playing the way I do I'll never reach 200+ plats, but I want to be satisfied when I look at my profile regardless. A close to 100% completion rate and seeing only games I played because I really wanted to is how I achieve that Edited July 18, 2019 by Arcesus7 Added fourth rule
MidnightDragon
Have fun Try for 100%, but don't torture myself over it. turpinator1986
My main rule is: have fun After all that’s what the object of video games are. If a game is fun but the trophy set is outside of my ability, I don’t care. I’ll play it anyway and get as many as I can. If a boost will be fun, I’ll boost it. If it’s a horrendous grind I’m steering clear. The only other rule i have is no cheating. Literally what is the point.
kenseizenkai
My 8 simple rules: 1. No EZPZ/Ratalaika/pay 5$ to get plat games. 2. No stacking, but I'll play EVERY game (if I didn't complete it on another system) in the series, including games that don't have trophies (like Spider-Man: Web Of Shadows or The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion). 3. I prefer games that don't have any kind of Level/Mission/Story/Side Story/Bonus DLC trophies. 4. No sports, strategy, manager or racing simulation games. 5. I'll try my best to get 100%, but if I don't get it I'm not gonna kill myself trying to get it. 6. Boosting all the way for multiplayer trophies. 7. No multiplayer only games like Fortnite or Apex Legends. 8. Always follow 5P's of trophy hunting (my design): -Preparation -Precision -Practice -Patience -Platinum

Baker
1. I only buy games I think I’ll enjoy. Definitely the most important rule for me, although I can be wrong sometimes. Looking at you Trials of the Blood Dragon. 2. Always go for 100%. 3. No stacking. 4. Don’t become a UR hunter. I’ve been tempted many times to up my UR count by playing some easy UR games I’m not interested in. So far I’ve resisted that temptation. It also contradicts my number 1 rule. 5. Due to my hate for full game speedruns I just won’t buy games anymore that has these kind of trophies. 6. I don’t care about ingame exploits, boosting, rubberbanding, etc... As long as it’s allowed, I’m making use of it.
