Actual Sunlight (EU)

1L5400a5.png

Enjoyment: 2/10

Difficulty: 0/10

Time taken: 3 hours, 54 minutes

Randomly started this one out of sheer curiosity, and unfortunately ended up quite disappointed. Trophy wise it was even cheaper than a TellTale game, despite containing trophies that are technically missable the game gives you a clear instruction at the beginning to check everything. It's very text heavy, and appears to be little more than a warped fantasy of killing oneself.

I could have finished it quicker, but started playing it whilst watching cartoons with my daughter..

I noticed the True Trophies competition, is this one too late to enter now?

Hence the ABC event.. ? Even if successful it'll only make a small dent.

Yeah, the TrueTrophies competition is too late for new entries - it's on Week 5.

It will be a success, it is just getting to the start line that's hard.

I am possibly going to pick up a PS3 at Xmas so I may end up changing half my list before the year end anyway.

Much of my gaming time since August has been spent on The Four Kings Casino and Slots, a truly awful, and frustrating game..

Initially finishing off the Slots in Spaaace! DLC, which then spurred me on to starting and finishing the Gold Rushed DLC, finishing the King Pins and Treasure Trapped DLCs, and finally, reaching VIP2.

Since hitting VIP2 I've been trying to finish off the remaining trophies I have left; King of the Hill and Reach for the Stars. Unfortunately I've hit a bit of a barrier with the former, and feel I've had absolutely zero luck with many of the deciding hands I've played. I couldn't tell you how many times I've lost with KK's and AA's against - frankly - terrible calls where I've been lucked out on.

I'm VIP3 for October, so I'll most likely continue playing until I hit Level 40 (currently 37) for the Reach for the Stars trophy, and spend what chips I have at that point. I'll leave myself about 100k in case of any further DLC, as well as a reasonable balance to return to for any future attempts if I remain unsuccessful.. I'm finding my patience and temper running on thin ice, and it's probably best that I give it a rest!

The Four Kings Slots and Casino

24Ld7fa18.png

Enjoyment: 1/10

Difficulty: 8/10

Time taken: 3 years, 7 months, 3 weeks

This game has been the bane of my life since its first content update, from what I initially thought would be a fairly average trophy list (if a bit grindy), turned into a highly luck based and extremely grindy trophy list. I started playing it again in August in fear of any potential upcoming server shutdown for no reason other than paranoia. My initial progress was pretty decent, but the King of the Hill trophy eluded me until yesterday - my first attempt following a week's holiday! ?

I'd love to say that I did it all without spending a dime, but alas I bought x2 £15.99 chip packs during my fight for KotH.

LEGO Jurassic World

Enjoyment: 8/10

Difficulty: 2/10

Time taken: 1 year, 8 months

I started this in March 2008 and finished the Jurassic Park levels, but didn't come back to finish the rest of the game until October 2019.. When I did come back to it, I actually found the grindy trophies toward the 100% far more enjoyable than I anticipated.

That list of 400+ unstarted games.... ?

Not a bad list so far...

Don't know about Super Meat Boy though... I plan to finish it soon and that game is hard as fuck. Then again everybody knows that.

Major props for doing Toejam & Earl. I was very lucky to play this when I was a kid.

Spyro the Dragon

Enjoyment: 7/10

Difficulty: 2/10

Time taken: 9 months, 2 weeks, 5 days

A great bit of nostalgia, and believe it or not this is the very first time I've completed any Spyro the Dragon title. Some of the supercharge jumps and secret areas were a bit tricky at times, but they unfortunately posed a greater challenge than Gnasty Gnorc himself. I had a slight feeling of "is that it?" upon completion.. Good job the remasters are a bundled trilogy, and I have two sequels to play!

Minefield (EU)

11L0d9114.png

Enjoyment: 3/10

Difficulty: 3/10

Time taken: 1 day, 40 minutes, 48 seconds

The only reason I loaded this up was for the TrueTrophies Twelve Days of Christmas Challenge (Day 2). The challenge was to unlock two trophies from Free to Play games, and I'd finished The Four Kings Slots and Casino a couple of months ago - oh well! I generally dislike F2P's due to their grindy nature and susceptibility to server shutdowns and discontinued trophies. Minefield looked like an easy way to go given that it's an offline game, and for the most part it was. The Grand Master trophy gave me a little trouble and it took a few attempts, but otherwise it would have been a completion in under an hour.

Assassin's Creed II (PS4)

1Lfe07c1.png

Enjoyment: 7/10

Difficulty: 2/10

Time taken: 3 months, 3 weeks, 1 day

I've previously played and finished Assassin's Creed II on the Xbox 360, so a second runthrough posed little challenge but was still thoroughly enjoyable. I'd say that I'm looking forward to playing Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood for the first time, but next year's focus is going to be on the ABC of Unstarted Games 2020 event (of which Brotherhood is only a backup game).. Perhaps in 2021 ?

F1 2017

1L682da4.png

Enjoyment: 7/10

Difficulty: 3/10

Time taken: 1 year, 5 months, 1 week

I've been pondering how to score F1 2017 for the last couple of weeks in terms of enjoyment.. I love my motorsport, and games perhaps even more so, especially F1. I've really enjoyed this game in parts; The gameplay, the graphics, the online community - all are top notch. Unfortunately the good vibes were spoilt a bit by the final grind for the On the shoulders of giants trophy which seemed to take forever (almost 6 full seasons). It didn't pop for me until I had about 80-85% of vehicle upgrades applied rather than the 75% noted in the trophy's description.. For the last season or so I was trying to speed up proceedings by simulating the race after a lap or 2, but it still felt quite grindy.. Now it's the end, I'm glad it's over.

Color Guardians

1Lc40d9d.png

Enjoyment: 8/10

Difficulty: 3/10

Time taken: 1 year, 9 months, 4 weeks

Another one cleared from the Backlog, Color Guardians was a bit of a strange one for me. If you look at the fastest completion times, it can be done in little over 3-4 hours.. It's not that I didn't enjoy the game because I did (quite a lot in the end!), but it was just that my efforts were focussed on other games. It definitely has the "pick up and play" factor going for it, and the premise of the game is a simple one - colour matching. The main difficulty I encountered was getting Red and Blue constantly mixed up with my buttons sub-consciously, possibly because of the Xbox controller where the blue button is located on the left.. The final boss was a bit of a brute, but nothing that a few tips from the PSNP community couldn't handle!

My Memory of Us

1Lb0d6f2.png

Enjoyment: 9/10

Difficulty: 2/10

Time taken: 5 days, 12 hours, 48 minutes

I went into this one with no expectations having received it as a rental. What a little gem it turned out to be! I adore the artistic style, the narrative, and the gameplay - so simplistic, but very effective. The trophies are pretty easy and I seldom had to refer to any guides, I'll admit to doing it once or twice, but this was for solving puzzles rather than needing it for collectables. I'm guessing it hasn't had many players to date due to the price, the cheapest it's been on PSN is £7.39 which despite really enjoying the game, I feel is still quite expensive for the amount of game that you get. There's no replay value here either unfortunately, after you've finished the game once - unless you've missed any of the trophies - you won't be loading it up again.

Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse

5L998f03.png

Enjoyment: 9/10

Difficulty: 4/10

Time taken: 5 days, 18 hours 43 minutes

It's my first ever time doing a complete runthrough of Castle of Illusion, with my previous experience of the game being just a couple of levels of the remake on Xbox 360, and playing it's sequel on the Mega Drive (Genesis). Difficulty wise its not so bad, I struggled a little with the Library boss (Licorice Dragon) and the final boss (Mizrabel) but cleared them both after a few attempts. Luckily the game throws extra lives at you to the extent that it may as well not have such a system. I played my first runthrough without guides and managed to collect 60+ diamonds on all levels with 75 to be collected on each, 2 of 5 playing cards, 2 of 5 chilis, and missed only a couple of castle statues. So I didn't really have too much to finish off while using guides on my second runthrough, though I'd probably still be struggling with the remaining diamonds for weeks and months to come had I have not used guides at all. It's a charming little game and despite my lack of previous experience with this particular title, it did give me a nostalgia hit of other retro platforming games such as James Pond. Really enjoyable.

What Remains of Edith Finch (EU)

1Lff6e0b.png

Enjoyment: 4/10

Difficulty: 0/10

Time taken: 2 days, 1 hour, 23 minutes

In many ways this reminded me of Firewatch, although I didn't enjoy it as much. I found it to be very linear and more of a visual novel than a game, it was very much a case of "go here, do this, press that" and the puzzles really didn't require much thought. That being said it was an ok little game to play along with, and I found myself somewhat engrossed after Molly's story. I won't post any spoilers, but getting to creep around as a weird octopus-like sea monster was kinda cool. Everything in the game seemed to be very short and rushed though, and felt overall like a missed opportunity..

DriveClub Bikes

1Lc23076.png

Enjoyment: 7/10

Difficulty: 4/10

Time taken: 3 years, 1 month, 3 weeks

I figured it was probably about time I finished this one off, just in case. I'd already done the multiplayer trophies some time ago before the server shutdown was even announced, but you never know whether something weird might happen.. I've been putting it off as I'm not particularly great at motorbike racers, but found this one relatively easy - probably because it drives much like DriveClub! The biggest challenges were the clean laps, but majority of these were pretty tame and completable within a handful of runs. There was a final grind levelling up the "base" bikes to Level 15, but this wasn't too bad either.

XBlaze Lost: Memories (PS3)

1L5c95c4.png

Enjoyment: 3/10

Difficulty: 1/10

Time taken: 2 weeks, 5 days, 10 hours

XBlaze: Lost Memories was my first leap in to Visual Novels, and let's say that I'm not a fan. I did start getting in to the storyline, though the sheer amount of dialogue and lack of gameplay in the latter parts of the game just resulted in me hammering the 'X' button to get it finished with. I'm still somewhat curious as to what actually happened with the story, so may return to it when I have an hour or two to spare - but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it if I don't. Difficulty wise, I'm being somewhat generous giving it a 1 - though I did use a guide for the quizzes (I'd have got most/all of the answers correct anyway) and final choices in the game to try and make sure I didn't have to play through it again.. ?

L.A. Noire (PS3)

1Ld59249.png

Enjoyment: 8/10

Difficulty: 2/10

Time taken: 3 years, 2 months, 2 weeks

What a game L.A. Noire is! This is the second time I've played through it, the first time was on Xbox 360 and I didn't get all of the achievements.. It's also the first time that I've played the DLC cases, and they too were pretty enjoyable. The storytelling is top quality, even if the ending is quite disappointing, and despite its age it looks and plays really well even on the aging PS3. It's been sat on my backlog way too long (hence the lengthy completion). I gave the difficulty a 2/10 though I did use a guide (because I'd technically played through it already). Without a guide I'd say it is at least a 4/10 trying to get the 5-star case ratings, and probably more trying to find the gold film reels but I doubt many would actually do so. I'll be quite sorry not to play this again (I know it's on PS4 - but it's the same game)..
